Tom Major
Hello. I am looking for fuel to suit Cox and OS engines. After few years of absence in the hobby I am shocked how low the stock is everywhere (or perhaps how poor my search skills are...). So the question to you gents - where can I get Model Technics Formula Irvine 10% or something similar? I live in Chesterfield, so wouldn't mind trip to the local shop, but if there is no other option, I'd like to order a gallon online. Another shock was when visitng Blackburn Models - they only sell 4 gallons. I don't have a clue how to convince mrs that I need to spend over 100 quid to run Golden Bee for few minutes... John Stainforth
There are several shops that sell MT Irvine on line, in any number of gallons you want. I think Leeds Model Shop is one.
Jon H
John is right. You can also contact model technics directly and ask for a list of shops in your area. They can also advise the right fuel as those little cox's need more nitro if I recall
John Emms 1
"Nitrex 15" 15% nitro was the fuel for little Cox engines, and results in easy starting of even the little .020. Could I ask a question? I have bought a Galahad kit, and that is either going to be electric, or retro diesel. How easy is it to buy diesel fuel? Jon Laughton
Buy Prosynth fuel direct from Weston UK - I have almost exclusively OS engines and all run very well on that. You can buy half gallons mail order
John Emms 1
Thanks Davey P. And 1l of diesel goes a LONG way!
Tom Major
Thank you all for input, I appreciate it. John - thanks a lot. I didn't come across Leeds Model shop before and I must say I'm quite impressed. They even have diesel engines in stock . Jon - I know it's little low nitro content, but I ran all my Cox engines on it and they were absolutely fine. I am not sure if I will get back to building and flying aircraft, but deffo want to restore all my engines and am on research about milling machines and lathes - Firefly .46 is still on my list to do . Basically I just want some juice to test the engines, that's it. RC Plane Flyer - always had that problem when visiting the shop . Tom Major
Thank you Stephen. I called The Model Basement, Hobby and Moor and I think it was Dynomodels. Hobby and Moor is closed now, remaining two have fuels for cars but nothing I could run Cox engines on. Will check the rest though. Stephen Smith 14
Cox will run fine on many of the car fuels.
Engine Doctor
Southern Model Craft makes and supplies fuel suitable for Cox engines in 1/2 liter ! liter bottles or 1 gallon container . Not sure weather he will post/ courier a small amount though .He goes to most big shows through the year . Might be worth giving him a call. Keith Lomax
If you go to the Old Warden events (and can now wait until next May), there is a trader there - Fuels and Things - who I understand is an ex-employee of Model Technics. He goes to a few other shows including the Nats, but I don't know which others. If you want something specific, it might be worth getting in touch to make sure he brings some (the organisers of the event www.modelair.info will have his contact details if they can't be found anywhere else). SIMON CRAGG
Another vote for Weston UK. Competitive pricing and amazing service. I have been using Prosynth for many years. Brilliant stuff!.
Tom Major
Today I went to The Model Basement and found out they not only stock Contest 10 by Model Technics, but also that they can get any fuel ordered to the shop . Might be handy information for some local folks that like me, look for local supplier. What's even better, they do have a balsa wood and quite a lot of modelling bits and bobs. Just shows once again that stock shown on the website is not always up to date, but in this case it is very nice surprise. That's my problem sorted then, now need to build test platform for my engines (most likely Sharkface build log in on the way ).
bert baker
Step away from the computer and support your local shop,
Tom Major
That's precisely what I did Bert.
Hamish
I am very lucky in that my LMS, Scoonie Hobbies, in Kirkcaldy, stock plenty fuel and balsa. I am amazed at the turnover in balsa as it suggests all is not lost in the scratch build or whatever. Delighted you found a supplier.
