dirk tinck
Hello all ! After the first flights it's time for the detailing ! Before the paint job , i need to make all the little things that "dress"the model like the elevator mass balancers , scoop, cooling air intakes, antennas... I started with the balancers. Made up the bases from aluminium scraps and the rest from epoxy plate. Everything has to be trimmed but i'm happy so far .
dirk tinck
Note that the red elevator is a test piece that was too heavy... Glad i didn't bin it

dirk tinck
Thanks Danny ! The mass balancers are ready to sand and mount .The screws will be replaced by epoxy pins glued in. The bases will be screwed.
dirk tinck
After the mass balancers it's time for the coolers on the motor hatch (pic). New technique: I changed a round pvc plumming tube into a flat plate by heating with a paint stripper, Next , i formed a flat piece into a half rond tube on a 11mm round Metal bolt. Next is a flat piece for the base , glued together gives a perfect cooler!

dirk tinck
Hey guy's Next on the (long) list are the gunports. I've chosen the El Salvadorian paint livery wich use two guns in the nose. Most Fouga's dont have them so they are not in the moulds. I found a way to make them without opening the fuse too much! First i made a little mould of the fuse nose section Then added two pieces of Metal tube wich have the exact form i needed.( it's a tube that holds the hangers in an old closet. When sanded and painted , i'm going to mould this part on the inside wich gives me the perfect gunports...i hope !

dirk tinck
Hi all ! as in the last photo , my chosen version has the big antennas upfront. While the paint on the new little mould drys , i took a shot at replicating these. I started to glue 3 layers of 1.5mm epoxy plate together , cut it to the desired shape , and sanded the rest off with a dremel and sandpaper. I'm not sure yet , how to fix them to the fuse but they do look good !!

dirk tinck
Hello all ! Today i cutted out the two gun ports and presented them to the fuse. It won't be easy to get them in because of the formers inside the fuse. I opened up the fuse and after a while sanding with the dremel i got them in.Satisfied with the fit , i glued them in with 30 min epoxy They stil need some sanding and filling but overall i like them.with the guns in place it will look good !

dirk tinck
Hello all ! Thanks for the likes on previous posts ! Last on the accessoires list are the mass balancers on the aileron trim tabs. They are not functional and the balancers will be glued in. First pic is the real stuff.
dirk tinck
Hello all , Another great scale item , and very much needed to slow this bird down on landings are the speed brakes. Flying buddy Ben Van Raemdonck , also 3D printing enthousiast made the moving parts for the brakes. It's Just a test print and a lot of time will be spent adapting them to the wings and form 4 complete drop-in brake units .The wiring is already inplace in the wings up to the receiver .
dirk tinck
First prototype of the speedbrakes .
dirk tinck
Hello all ! The speed brakes are going to take some time i'm afraid... I made the servo support from alu T profile .It took a lot of fitting before i was happy with it ! It will be screwed on the hard wood support but the screws (M2 )will go into the little back-up plate under the wood for better grip . The little pin on the end goes into a wing rib. The gap on the right is to let the servo wire trough. I love this kind of Jobs! The brakes are next !
