Small parts ! right !

Next item is very similar to the tip tank nose  :  the nose cone .

The cone itself was made a long time ago but still has a lot to be done to !   -  trim it to allow room for a landing light

                                                                                                                               -  find a way to attach it

                                                                                                                               -  hide the pin for canope and front hatch removal

But first i did the canope attachment . In the back it's just a M4 bolt that fits in a slot.

In the front , the canope is held down by a 2MM metal pin slided in via the nose !

Thesame pin holds down the nose hatch

Third post in one day !!   Must be sunday !

To screw anything onto the fuse upfront , i need a former ,actually i need two !  One that's glued in and one removable that holds the light.

20230302_220433.thumb.jpg.ac3d60275a706f39190b57d7e93ef748.jpg

Here is the second one (with the light) screwed to the first (glued in the fuse) with an opening to slide in the canope-pin.

On the box is the nose cone with a third former glued in and holding the magnets . The magnets will attract the metal screws of the second former and keep the nose cone on the fuse

Here the nose cone is trimmed to allow the ''cone '' window.  Another time consuming small part !!

The window is made the same way i made the tiptank nose windows.

I filled the nose cone mould (holding the trimmed nose cone ) with car body filler . After curing , i sanded away 1MM (the thickness of the window ) . That 's my plug to vavuum-form the nose cone window.

After a few try-out's with the vacuum box , i got a perfect cone window !

Done for now !!  Tonight a tail wheel support gets born !!

Thanks for watching !!

  • 1 month later...

hello all !

Sorry i didn't post for over a month !

I've been very busy with all the small things to do before the first roll out.

Things like  the tail wheel ,opening up the inlets , tail light , are all done !

The flap servo's are also installed , rudder servo's , aileron servo's , all the linkages , wireing the wings, rudders , ligths , retracts , all done

Finally i stumbled upon a problem with the nose retract... The connecting pin on the ELECTRON retracts is one of 6mm but the nose strut needs a 1/4 inch pin. So i had to find a 1/4 inch pin and enlarge the trunion and steering part on the retract. This took a while but in the end it all worked out.

Now , to find the ideal spot for the batterys (14S 9000mAh) , i need everything in position , find the CG ,and figure out the best place for all the electronics.

This will be the first time the plane is on its wheels in flying configuration !!

Hi guy's !  long time no see !

I know , it's been way too long sinds i posted my progress here but i want to get this bird in the air before my vacation !

I'm not far from the first roll out now !

Most of the time was spent on fitting all the rc stuff and getting the CG right.  I geared up my PSS fouga to mesure the right spot and transfered it to the EDF version

Now i could start to position everything that's needed to fly : receiver , receiver battery's , gear controller , light controller , gear battery and flight battery's.

I wanted the option to change the CG position by moving the flight battery  (3.2kg ). Therefor i made a sliding battery tray.

As you can see in the last pic , the tray holds 4 battery pacs. The wiring is made to keep the mounting simple .  I can connect all 4 pacs before i mount the tray in the plane.

All i have to connect in the fuse are the pos. and neg. to the ESC.

The ESC is located just in front of the fan , in the airstream for cooling (bottom in pic )

The gear contoller  and light controller with their battery  are ''hanging'' just under the canope.

The receiver is located behind the fan , away from high current cables.

It's a 12 channel multiplex dual  feeded by two 2S lipo battery's 2200 mah  switched on with a powerbox digi switch with two exit's to the receiver

Up to this evening , i was busy programming my transmitter .

It was a long time since i had to do this so it took a while !

Also new to me was programming the ELECTRON gear controller with touch screen. This system needs only one receiver channel for gears , doors and steering and can switch up to 8 gear doors , i only have one...

Only thing left to do is mount the fan back in , attach the inlet ring , and charge that ''brick''   existing of 4 packs 7S 5000mah ! That makes 14S 10000mah....need some power ??

One of these days , on a calm evening , we'll do a roll test and if all goes wel do the maiden flight ! fingers crossed !!

I'll try to make some video and post!

Yesterday , July 17 , 2100h ,Haaltert , Belgium ,on the airstrip of modelflying club "The Little Wings" we did the first flight with the unpainted fouga EDF.

At the sticks""die hard "pilot Gunther Ferket , myself at the trims , assitance from liftime model pilot Rik v Avermaet , Jonas Ferket at the camera , Heidi Steenssens on the timer.

With the sun decending , light breeze down the runway , flaps at 50 % , full throttle , and with a gentle "pull" , the 14 kg heavy fouga lifts for the first time from the ground , after 5 years on the workbench .

Two clicks "up" one click right aileron is all she needs to fly perfectly straight.

A few circuits high , a few low , testing flaps , a carefull roll to the right , one to the left and after 2.5 min. A test approach to land.  Half flaps , landing gear down , 2meter above the corn , a little too fast she lands back to earth. .She needs the whole runway to stop Just in front of the end !

Alltough rather fast , she wo 't break any speed record but is a very stabiel,    forgiving plane , with no bad habits at all !

With a few adjustments in  the transmitter and airbrakes yet to install , she can land on 3/4 runway

A Quick battery check after 3min. flight shows us we have 65 % capacity left !

Good for 5 min flights

MISSION ACOMPLISHED !!
