Piers Bowlan
From the plan it looks like the Fuselage structure is produced in two halves, planked and then the two sides mated together. Or do you plank them after mating the half shells together? Just trying to figuring out what is involved, not jump the 1st August gun! I'm in anyway. Martin Gay
The fuselage is built, and planked in two halves. The optional closed loop rudder snakes are then fitted into each half along with wing bolt plate and battery box before the fuselage halves are joined. The photo below shows the internal structure. Martin Gay
Thanks for the compliments Martyn. We aim to please and are already working on the next model!
Josh Lawrenson
So my build of it has started, i dont profess to be an expert builder but these plans are quite simple to follow. My biggest issue so far has been trying to get the materials as every model shop i went to did not have any 3/16 balsa strip so had to make my own. Ive started with the fuselage whish is built in two halves. I waould say just check your grain direction on the f14 cut out as mine was running verticle so flexes alot when trying to slide it through the f6 piece and may snap if not careful. robk
This will be my first mass-build. Martin I have been in touch by e-mail - hope to see you at the Great Orme in September, which will also be my first PSSA event, but I have seen some of the previous models flying there. I thought I would post this picture of the F86 at the Museum of Flight in Seattle (Im on holiday there and saw it yesterday!) - actually a Canadian built Canadair CL-13B. This one flew coast to coast in 1956 breaking the speed record for that 1400 mile flight.
Martin Gay
I look forward to meeting you. The photo looks to me to be of a camera recon aircraft with those lumps on the fuselage sides.
Martin Gay
I will be attending the Great Orme event this weekend. If you have requested to pick up a kit at this meeting, it will be there. There should also be a couple of extra kits, as well as a few plans, available as well. Edited By Martin Gay on 05/09/2019 08:54:

Cliff Newton 1
I'm in too and I have the short kit and the rest of the wood. Argentine Cruz del Sur aerobatic team version. Build log started but aren't we waiting until November to start?
Peter Miller
I should have put this posting here so here goes. While I am not involved in the mass build How about the Candian Aerobatic Team the Golden Hawks as a different and relatively easy colour scheme
McG 6969
Hello Peter, If I remember well, Ade (Flyer) still has a few gallons of gold paint as a leftover from his A4 Skyhawk build... I believe he's having plans to use the scheme of the Canadian Golden Hawks. Cheers Chris
Flyer
Yep, that's me. Has a few (!) tins of gold paint from my NZ 50th Anniversary A4 But this time I will NOT use the conservatory to spray the aircraft Cheers Ade
Steve Houghton
Martin/Gordon, Thanks for the delivery of my plan pack. Can I please confirm the thickness of the tailplane? The plan says two laminations of 3.18mm sheet but the typical cross section seems to show it as being 12mm thick (2x6mm). Sorry if its a silly question, but I'm about to order the wood. Regards, Steve
Peter Garsden
Has anyone done a wood list for this at all - it would certainly help? I will now look at the beta build but I can't remember seeing one. If I am wrong please ignore me.
Steve Houghton
Pete, There's a whole thread about the wood list: Woodpack List There's also a Gamma build thread.
John H. Rood
1st October: Just 31 days before the mass-build maelstrom begins!
Martin Gay
Hi Steve, During the Gamma build, it was noticed that the plan shows the tailplanes are made from 2 laminations of 1/8" balsa sheet. THIS IS INCORRECT! it should be from two laminations of 1/4" as per the cross section. Martin
Steve Houghton
Hi Martin, Thanks for the confirmation. I have been scouring similar plans, and noted that the Phase 5 AMT had 2 laminations of 3/16", with joining wires of 14g. You said on another thread that the F86 joiners were 8g (front) and 10g (rear), if I remember correctly. Aren't these a bit thick - I have never built an AMT so I am speaking from intuition rather than experience! What will/have you used on the Gamma build?
