Great work there Richard and hopefully plans or kits might become available at some point.

As for you version I can see where you got your inspiration from 🤣

Can't say it would be my choice, but each to their own and more importantly it flies well...and chance of a video...bottle nosed or not

Hi Andy, not seen you since they stopped the NATS, don`t give up, plenty of help and advice available here, they are so satisfying once done due to the low cost and possibilities to scratch build unusual subjects. Pm me if you want to chat about it on the phone, it might be easier to help you by talking you through what you had a problem with. I have been offered a stand at the end of year Model builder show at Buckminster to show some of our Foamboard creations and do demos of the process, hopefully some of the others on this forum will come along to show theirs and help, if not i`ll be Billy no mates on the stand!

Amazed there aren’t more people doing these sort of builds. So cheap, easy to build and they fly great!  I’ve built far too many and don’t seem to be slowing down! Currently building mainly from B&Q insulation foam, as light foamboard is hard to find in the UK at present.

This is my B25, foam board and depron. I had guests coming so I put it away in the loft and finishing of stalled as I did not want another hand launch model. I will get back to it but I intend to fit retracts. The wing is a flat bottom slab of foam board same as the Sunderland so nothing complicated. The model is based on a Marutaka plan and the cowls and canopies and plan were from Kevin Branch who may be persuaded to produce some more.

Would be great if you could make it Graham, it would be good to have a chat and swap ideas as well, is the Pitts a foam board model as well, hadn`t seen that one before?

Yes. Mostly 3mm B&Q. Painted, then covered in laminating film. It's flown a few times, but still getting it trimmed. I think it needs some negative incidence of the top wing as it needs load of down trim and tends to climb. It's 40" span but weighs less than 3lbs. Flies on a 2200 3S pack and a 3642 motor. Wing construction is a tiny bit floppy. If I did it again I'd go for some carbon spars. I'm actually thinking of 3D printing some sections of 'I' spar to stiffen up foamboard wings. If I get onto this I'll share how it goes.

It has a neat cruciform fuselage construction with local stiffening using 1/32" ply . This ties together the lower wing forward mount, the undercarriage mount, top wing pylon and motor mount. It's quite tough but still very light.

We'd have a lot to chat about at Buckminster!

a few more test flights on the foam board Mossie today .

Its been laid up since last year when the Fw190 /Tempest project started .

Still some cosmetic work to do . The underside of the nacelles are functional rather then pretty , so need sorting .

But flying goes really well . AUW is less than 6lb with sound system .

At 64" that makes the wing loading 24oz/ft .

Putting that in perspective , if you scaled up a typical 6lb  55" fighter to 64" but kept the same weight , imagine how easy to fly and land it would be ?

That's how it feels .

It flies on a 4s 3300mah battery for 5mins of spirited performance . Could stretch to 6.5 mins at scale speeds.

Good question Martin . The sound system comprises of a speaker with weighs about 5oz and a small PCB board which is only 1oz .

I will have to have a chat with Eric V on Drake AKA the Professor about the weight .

My gut feeling is that the weight of the airframe could be aloud to gain another 6oz or more without any noticeable impact on the flight performance .

It is very friendly at the moment and I wouldnt want to lose that , but I would like to know how much an "all wood " version would weigh in comparison .

Foam board as you know , can have stability problems if left in the garage all winter .

Not much chance of a video at the moment as spotting another club member is like hunting DoDo's !

I do have an old clip of one of my 109s with the same set up doing a pass . I will attempt to post it .

I coudnt find my 109 clip , but here is an American Chappie with the same set up . I enjoy the sound system the most when nobody else is flying . It is actually nicer and deeper at mid throttle settings so when you fly slower at scale speeds it sounds much more realistic . Towards the end of this clip you can see and hear the potential better .

Why he dubbed music over it is beyond me .

I'm not sure what is going on with Mr Rc at the moment though . You dont seem to be able to buy it even though Motion RC is his agent .

You can move the PCB easily from one model to another , but the speaker (£25) mush be built in to the model . So you could buy three speakers for three models and just un clip the PCB board and move it around .

I've got one of those Mr RC Sound systems, intended for the 1600mm Flightline Spitfire, but haven't fitted it yet. I'm puzzled why the Eflite Mustang feller put the music on the video, supposedly wanting to show off the sound system - completely spoils it. My system has the transducers, rather than speakers, and the recommendation is to fit them permanently to the fuselage sides.
