So ..... now the drama is over ..... for a while at least I'll turn my attention to fixing the rudder and elevators in place and fitting the push rods, control horns and servos. ..... back end complete. Then ... turn my attention to the wing and aileron construction ..... plenty to go at there.

I still news to work out a motor and esc combo. Cant mind if I have a receiver for this ..... it will be another Psektrum AR 620. If I dont have one sitting there, I'll need to get one ordered up.

Hopefully in the shed earlier today to get stuck in.

Cheers

Ok ...

I've had another look at the drawing .... the second one ...... looks like I'm back on the humble pie again.

My goodness the humiliation of it all. .... all joking aside ..... I am due you an apology Ron. ... it just did not look right and although you guys spotted it pretty quickly ..... I couldn't see it. I honestly thought that all the engaging parts should have aligned on that rear edge.

My genuine apologies.

Maybe your mate John Smith confused you😂

No progress on the Tiger 60 tonight as I was progressing the repairs and issues on both the Arising Star and Domino. Both were su successful so worth the lack of progress on here. The Tiger 60 will n

Be back on the go again tomorrow. :classic_biggrin:

Just as a quick update,

The tiger 60 will be running on a Ripmax quantum 11 61 410kv motor and a 80 amp SBEC brushless ESC run ing on 6s batteries. I am waiting for a prop size to sit from Steve at Kings Lynn Models and will advise as soon as I know ...... probably tomorrow.

That's the latest

I understand that from an electrical motor point of view it is meant to run on a .60 size motor. The box suggests a Rimfire 60.

I discussed the powering of this very model with Steve from Kings Lynn just this morning when I was discussing the ESC issue ( Domino ) and he spec'd the motor for me. I will give him a call again tomorrow just to confirm that we have this correct.

Meanwhile .... as I cant sleep.... as usual .... I'll try searching internet to see if there are any other examples to check against.

Most if not all of the time when I look to size up a models power source, I take the advice of either a retailer or the forum or both. Even when it is stated on the models box because just because the manufacturer states one thing , it doesn't always equal  the best set up .....quite often, experienced modellers can advise better of their own experiences of models being under or over powered, especially if they know my standing in the hobby and what my aspirations are ..... ie ..... more leisurely flying as opposed to aerobatics etc.

Feel free to continue to chime in if there are any concerns. I'd rather get it correct than pour good cash after bad.

Specific concerns would be helpful so they can be discussed with my retailer so I can ensure all the concerns have been considered.

Many thanks, I will look to contact Steve early tomorrow before my order is despatched.

It appears that the Tiger 3 60 is described as a 60 sized sports model for a .91 2 stroke or .60 equivalent brushless motor.

Thanks Leccyflier.  What a strange way to describe a power set up.  It would have been better to put a power figure for the motor.  If you take the flying weight at 4 Kg or 8.8 lb using 100 W/lb gives you 880 W as the motor power needed.

Agree - it sounds daft, but so does the description of the model as 1/5th scale 🙂 Perhaps that is referring to the pilot bust.

OK ..... back in the shed and we are looking to prepare the rear tail , rudder, elevators in readiness to expoxy in place.

First of all I done copious amounts of measuring to ensure that I had the main tail section centralised. I took measurement from the tail, wing ends elevator tips and also established a central datum line throughout the fuselage to establish as best I could ( I reckon to within a mm ).

I done this before taking a pencil along the various section joints to mark for going through the slicer.

and started hacking away 😄 .....

and then .... P1110287.thumb.JPG.07cdd87e87a4614f3a56aa4e6f70117e.JPG

started on the rudder .... marking all the way along the top of the fin piece that travels along the top of the fuselage .....

note the two lines ..... the beauty of the old addage ..... measure twice ..... cut once.....

out with the slicer .....

and then the top of the fuselage itself .....

and try it in place .... once again reconfirming my measurements and centre points ...... a bit late now if I got it wrong.

Now ...... I don't know how many of you remember this little fiasco that I made nearer the start of the assembly .......

P1110297.thumb.JPG.ca9467a02f78910f23bedd0c7add6e47.JPG

but I reckon its time to deal with it. I have some Oracover ( in white ) and its time to repair the incorrectly cut gouge that I made in the side of the fuselage whilst looking for the push rod entry point.

My intention is ..... in a vain bid to make this repair look intended, is to apply a ..... go faster stripe ( read as block ) of Oracover over the hole and with some careful fete of measurement ..... ( well I am a Quantity Surveyor ) repeat the same repair on the other undamaged side. .... That will fool em all.

lets see if this is a miracle cure ....... or a very stupid decision ......

I'll be back.

OK ..... that was relatively straight forward ..... first I took one of these .....

P1110298.thumb.JPG.586a96ad54a175ac02f769dc9a971419.JPG

and then some of this .....

P1110299.thumb.JPG.893d38bb52911a565edef8d26023811c.JPG

kept it simple and cut out a couple of pieces based on the size of the hole on the damaged side noting that the existing decals were cut at an angle ..... so followed this idea.

P1110300.thumb.JPG.e9a93d23984ab6e42aa2297e5b67d885.JPG

almost looks meant ....

P1110301.thumb.JPG.30906f067bc8ccf19211d7f4656b4698.JPG

I tried to keep the black pinstripe in place without covering it and creating a break which makes the repair look more obvious. ( not that its great ).

P1110304.thumb.JPG.e19ba3ba7cc118669d605733473d423a.JPG

bunged the push rods back through .......

P1110302.thumb.JPG.1f297101e9dc9296d01635e145dfa1bb.JPG

and repeat on the other side .....

P1110303.thumb.JPG.019082f12dd7df3d8c87b217846ace43.JPG

and finally .....

P1110305.thumb.JPG.9b2c48cb651612b4e54d6d17da044ae2.JPG

so ..... looking at the time .... a bit late for messing around with epoxy so that will now get pushed into tomorrow nights tasks .

Hey ..... another experience under my belt ..... repairs before any flight even happens ..... 😄

cheers for now

So .... back indoors for the night and looking forward to tommorows lot.

I have to sort out EC5 connectors for the Domino to enable some testing by my club mates at the weekend. ( that maybe left until Friday evening but I'd rather do it tomorrow and not run this to the wire for time ).

The next steps on this Tiger 60 is to mix up some epoxy and secure the tail p,ane sections in place. If I do that ..... all work on the Tiger 60 comes to a halt whilst the epoxy dries. Maybe no bad thing. .... So ... epoxy first .... store the Tiger 60 up on the rack out of the way to dry and then tackle the EC5 soldering task.

Sounds like a plan. .... assuming all goes to plan, this leaves Friday evening panic free.

Sorted.

OK .... progress with the Tiger ...

taped up the sides of the horizontal tail to prevent getting epoxy all over it and as a guide line ...

P1110313.thumb.JPG.92a4ea1db5be0cba506810613d2c1802.JPG

and on the under side as well ....

P1110314.thumb.JPG.bf84daae167aa2bfa308fa8fee86923d.JPG

mixed up the epoxy and done the elevator section first and then the rudder section ....

P1110315.thumb.JPG.c92472390052ecd3c20d1b550f85f959.JPG

it now sits up on the racking to dry until tomorrow out of harms way.

No more on this for tonight.

cheers

Toto, just read that. Impressed by the learning curve. Mind, I’m inebriated, and casually ignoring the mossi sat on this screen. We’ll done.

For we’ll read well. Lovely Pomerol is to blame. Toto might equate to a Highland malt.
