Hi Pete and welcome to the madhouse !

I don't think an edf jet is a good idea if you have never flown before.

There is no "forgiveness" in them and will usually bury themselves in the ground given half a chance.

I would suggest finding a local club and having a good chat with them. They will put you on the right tracks.

If you must fly one , then I suggest you build a foamboard model from one of the plans freely available on the internet.

It's a lot cheaper !!!

Hmmmmm .......

Have you given this much thought ? Seems like a very tall order. .... at the same time ...... no wish to discourage so .... all the best and I wish you every success.

Remember the maiden flight video.

Hi Smithy8, welcome aboard!

It's a great hobby, and very rewarding. EDFs are great fun, but as others have said, not a traditional first model........

I'd reiterate the comments about visiting, and preferably joining, a club. In the meantime, pop over to the BMFA website (if you haven't already done so), to find lots of info, including the few legal requirements

To answer your question, your radio system does not care what model, or type if model, it is installed in.

Good luck!

Sorry to be negative but be aware there are now legally enforceable rules about what, where and who can fly a radio controlled hobby "aerial vehicle" be it a model plane, helicopter or quad. This is the reasoning behind the suggestions to visit the British Model Flying Association (BMFA) web side and visiting a model flying club where you can see and talk to people who actually do it.

An 80mm EDF Rafale is going to be powerful and heavy. It is not a "toy" and could be considered dangerous in inexperienced hands. Most definitely not a plane for a beginner.

Wise move .... 👌

In time ...... you may eventually realise your ambition to fly your jets. It will provide you with the drive to succeed.

I'm sure you will have better fun and success learning with the ranger ... and ..... won't cost you as much either. ..... have fun.
