smithy8
Well my names pete im new to this hobby and starting out with edf jets i currently have a rafale 80mm and need a little help. I have the AT9S PRO and the R9DS reciever does anyone know if i could use them on my jet ?
kevin b
Hi Pete and welcome to the madhouse ! I don't think an edf jet is a good idea if you have never flown before. There is no "forgiveness" in them and will usually bury themselves in the ground given half a chance. I would suggest finding a local club and having a good chat with them. They will put you on the right tracks. If you must fly one , then I suggest you build a foamboard model from one of the plans freely available on the internet. It's a lot cheaper !!! toto
Hmmmmm ....... Have you given this much thought ? Seems like a very tall order. .... at the same time ...... no wish to discourage so .... all the best and I wish you every success. Remember the maiden flight video. GrumpyGnome
Hi Smithy8, welcome aboard! It's a great hobby, and very rewarding. EDFs are great fun, but as others have said, not a traditional first model........ I'd reiterate the comments about visiting, and preferably joining, a club. In the meantime, pop over to the BMFA website (if you haven't already done so), to find lots of info, including the few legal requirements To answer your question, your radio system does not care what model, or type if model, it is installed in. Good luck!

Simon Chaddock
smithy8 Sorry to be negative but be aware there are now legally enforceable rules about what, where and who can fly a radio controlled hobby "aerial vehicle" be it a model plane, helicopter or quad. This is the reasoning behind the suggestions to visit the British Model Flying Association (BMFA) web side and visiting a model flying club where you can see and talk to people who actually do it. An 80mm EDF Rafale is going to be powerful and heavy. It is not a "toy" and could be considered dangerous in inexperienced hands. Most definitely not a plane for a beginner. toto
Wise move .... 👌 In time ...... you may eventually realise your ambition to fly your jets. It will provide you with the drive to succeed. I'm sure you will have better fun and success learning with the ranger ... and ..... won't cost you as much either. ..... have fun. Jake Bullit
I have the 80mm Rafale. It's and awesome plane to fly, but definitely not for beginners. Here's mine in action; https://youtu.be/0i1bqD1KB2g Edited June 2 by Jake Bullit
smithy8
Do you think the at9s transmitter and a r9ds reciever would work in my rafale its 10 channel
Jake Bullit
I'm not familiar with that system, but 10 channels would be enough. Though it's much easier to connect just one cable with an SBUS Rx.
smithy8
Yeah i got the reflexs v3 Bluetooth stabilizing system which i believe goes in to sbus i was just worried about range they say the r9ds reciever as a range of 2.4 miles but not sure what range of the rafale
Denis Watkins
There are restrictions Smithy, as we fly " line of sight " Your receiver may be able to operate over 12000 feet, but would be way way out of sight. A model is barely attitude visible at 800 feet, and restrictions require us to operate within 400 feet without special permissions
smithy8
Yeah i thought all this its just i don't want to install my radio gear and Receiver if there not compatible ive contacted a model shop they said my at9s pro transmitter and my r9ds reciever should be ok but the words should be, makes me worried i haven't heard or seen anyone using the at9s pro or the r9ds.
