Best budget Lipos and any to avoid?

Recommended Posts

Interested to hear people's thoughts on the best budget Lipos and also to hear any bad experiences / ones to avoid.

Currently looking for some fairly small 850mah 3s and probably some 2200's in the not too distant future as well.

I've often used Turnigy in the past and been quite happy with them, I'm my own worst enemy as I have long breaks between flying (years) and even though they're left at storage charge they don't have the same "zing" when I return but appreciate all Lipos will probably be the same.

I may well end up buying the Turnigys again, but as things change over the years, thought I'd see what people are currently happy with and if there are any that stand out and am seeing names like GNB, ZEEE and CNHL which weren't really around much the last time I bought any.

Any help much appreciated.

I found that the Radient 3s1p 850mah lipos that I was gifted work just fine in my UMX Messerschmitt 262. The 3s1p 600mah Radients that I use for my Spitty dogfighter and Fatty Me109 profile depron jobs are great and I do take those down to a significantly lower voltage at the end of a flight than my other lipos - typically just over 3.6v/cell, They seem to be coping reasonably well.

The convenience of the Zeee Power packs from Amazon is a big attraction for  and the packs work really well, stay nice and unpuffy, have next day delivery, 7 days a week, good deals for twin packs and their new stubby 3s1p 2200mah packs fit the wee Arrows BAe Hawk perfectly, 2/3rds the length and 40g lighter than a normal 3s1p 2200mah pack.

Just recently a clubmate has been importing some packs, which are branded as GPR 60C packs and have found that those are really good - have tried both 3s1p 2200mah and 3s1p 3300mah and both are performing well.

Most of my lipos are Turnigy Nanotech, which I’ve found to be fine.

I bought a couple of Radient a few years ago, and both puffed up after a few months, so I won’t be buying those again. I’ve since been using GNB and Zeee, both of which seem OK.

Yes, Zeepower and Goldbat Lipos from Amazon I've also found to be excellent performers.

Cheers for everyone's input, I've also done loads of googling and there doesn't seem to be any particular consensus on any of them, all having good and bad reports and wonder if it's as much down to how you look after them as it is the battery itself.

Over the years I've had so may different brands and non have seemed to be much better than any of the others, I think they've all died when left for ages and I have breaks of not flying so there's probably not much point in me spending out on expensive ones as they'll probably go teh same way.

As these are some of my smallest therefore least expensive packs, think I'm going to buy just a couple of the CNHL's and see how they work out / compare to what I've had in the past. If they seem OK and am happy with them get some more of the smaller ones and when I get round to replacing them some of the larger capacity ones in the future and ifthey're no good I haven't lost much.

Thanks for everyone's help, always interesting to see if there's a heavy leaning towards one specific brand.

I've recently bought 4x Hoovo lipos. They seem to be performing very well so far and are good value with quick shipping.

I bought two HOOVO 4s 5,000 last year on E-bay. mis ordered some how , probably blinded by the attractive price. They came  hard cased ( for car use?) and with a lot of foam wadding so no hope of fitting in the intended plane . Stripped them and re-wrapped. also the stated capacity seems very optimistic, however otherwise performing well so far

I bought a set of four Radiant 3s 3000mAh last summer (from two different sources), found them quite terrible.  Essentially got only the same flight times in my Riot as the Purple Power 2200mAh ones from 4-Max, appx 7mins.  If I tried to extend the times by 2mins with these then they went right down to almost flat!  Gave them away.
