Difficult to say without knowing how many amps the motor can take without generating the magic smoke, but a 12x4 or 11x6 should give enough thrust drawing 30 to 35 amps on a 3S battery.
-
Also, what level of performance you want.
-
Need to know the motor model, number of battery cells, model weight.
-
Thanks for that John, will give it a go.

I have an electric RES glider and I want to program my Spektrum DX6 Gen 2 to do the following: Motor arming switch on: throttle stick controls motor, spoiler remains closed. Motor arming switch off: Motor off, throttle stick controls spoiler. Has anyone done this or does anyone have suggestions about how to set it up?

Good Service!

Thumbs up for West London Models. Called to check on the progress of a order but no reply. Half an hour later they called back, they had spotted the missed call, looked up my order from the mobile number I called from and phoned me back to let me know when the items I had ordered would be sent. No complaints here! -
Where do you buy your Lipo batteries ?
Shaun Walsh replied to Paul Turner 2's topic in All Things Model Flying
Just had a look at the Overlander prices at Wheelspin, they are two to four times the cost of the batteries I buy from Hobbyking. -

Parkzone Mk. 9 Spitfire. Which retracts.?
Shaun Walsh replied to Maurice Dyer's topic in Scale Matters
According to the manual you need part numbers EFLG100 which are the retracts you mention, and PKZ5717 which are the wire undercarriage legs and appear to be out of stock althogh you could make your own. -
Rudder / Elevator throws for a beginner
Shaun Walsh replied to Terry Plumridge 1's topic in Beginners
Sounds like a good start, you may want to dd some expo to be on the safe side. If this is your first RC model then the person teaching you to fly should be able to give better advice after the first flight. -

Stabilisation and flaps.
Shaun Walsh replied to Brian Dorricott 1's topic in All Things Model Flying
Depends upon what setting the stabiliser is set to. If set to correct for gusts then there will only be a momentary correction when flaps are applied, if set to fly the model straight and level when the sticks are released then the stabiliser should fly the model level all the time the flaps are down. I just mix a bit of elevator movement into the flap control to achieve the same result. -
Not sure if this is a start to a reliability issue?
Shaun Walsh replied to 911hillclimber's topic in ESCs (Speed Controllers)
Using a programming card is easier and they're not expensive -
You could try cloning the hdd onto the ssd then activating the recovery partition on the ssd.
-
Had a similar problem with an old laptop running win7. Took the old hdd out, fitted a new ssd and increased the memory, reinstalled windows and drivers and it's working better than ever.

No surprise that nobody admitted to using an illegal 2.4GHz jammer. -

Super 60 Renovation
Shaun Walsh replied to Capt Kremen's topic in Vintage Kits, Semi-Kits and Plan Projects
Many years ago a fellow club member put a Fox 60 in a Super 60, it went like excrement off a digging implement until a low high speed pass resulted in the wing leading edge lifting producing a very tight loop into the ground. -
The extinguisher contains a suspension of very finely divided vermiculite. When used, the platelets of vermiculite overlap in layers forming an air tight seal extinguishing the fire. In some exceptional circumstances, water can act as "petrol", never try extinguishing an alkali metal fire with water the reaction produces hydrogen and a big bang! Sodium and potassium will also burn in a CO2 atmosphere.

Lithex fire extinguisher available from safe fire direct. Specifically designed to extinguish lithium battery fires. Having seen a lipo fire I thought it worthwhile to have one at home and to carry it in the car when transporting batteries.
