Erfolg
I am pleased that the CS60 will be electric. It is an opportunity to discuss how larger electric models can be constructed, particularly the equipment and circuitry etc. on limited budgets.I have read about the big aerobatic models, then again, these guys spend more money on a ESC than I spend in a whole year. I personally am not keen on the arcing that sometimes appears to happen as the volts go up. Then there are the safety issues, as these do become real on powerful drive trains. Bags of meat to have a go at. Of course an IC conversion will be of great interest to many, yet large electric models are ground breaking for every day use, on modest budgets. Tim Hooper
Erf, I share your unease about the sparking issues in high-count set ups! I've recently chanced upon the anti-spark connectors that Jeti sell; **LINK** Also available from Puffin Models. I've got them in a couple of 5 cell models, and they do indeed eliminate all the nasty sparks when connecting up the cells to the ESC. tim
Hugh Coleman
By Jove I have it! Arrow Active Mark II Edited By Chris Bott - Moderator on 17/09/2012 10:47:

Tim Hooper
That little Arrow certainly ticks a lot of boxes, doesn't it? tim
Reno Racer
Now thats nice. A bit like a Bucker, a nice period bipe, but with some very respectable aerobatic ability. a 50 or 60 size would suit many, IC or leccy. I even like that scheme! Chris Poulton
lets have a civvy twin please. piper, cessna....plenty to choose from. electric or twin .25's, so 54 to 60 inch span, good handling but easy enough to cart around and not too expensive for electric. or if you really want to make my day, a 60 inch beech d-18. in balsa and ply of course. Hugh Coleman
Yep. At 24' wingspan, a 5th scale version will come in under 58 inches. Perfect for a 60 four stroke! Hugh
TheFlyingCrust
How about a Beriev Be 103. Here's one. Good for those wetter days . Ian
Rene Wallage
I don't think this one has been modelled too often: the DH53. How about 1.20cm 3S size?
Erfolg
Its been done!
Chris Bott - Moderator
I don't think it's been "done" very much has it Erfolg? It's a pretty little thing too. Could you elaborate on who and how and how big it's been done before? I've seen one, this year at Greenacres.
Erfolg
I remember seeing an electric version on a beach on Anglesy some circa 25 years back, I know it seems unbelievable, that is why I was so certain it had been done. I have also seen a version, could be the same plan with a G something or other horizontal twin (something like a cox). More recently there is this or this and I do remember it has been kited. I am beginning to think it has to be a twin of some sort or a biplane (which is one of TH's fortes). What ever Tim goes for, I suspect it will be different. Surprisingly we all seem to think of the models done to death by us RC modellers, look at FF such as Mikes site, and you will see many that seem to elude us. Hugh Coleman
The more I think about it, the more I like the Arrow... Doomed company, developing a machine for no known requirement, trying to use it as a racer (unsuccessful) fading into obscurity... It would draw comment on the flight line... if for no other reason that it looks different. Hugh
Erfolg
CSB If you want to fit a IC engine, why not, what ever floats your boat. Mounted sidewinder it would probably fit reasonably well in a side cheek. A horizontally opposed engine of a adequate size would possibly be more in keeping. At present at 60" the CS60 is probably on the borderline of electric power viability, for use by ordinary modellers. As an electric model, it will be forging a new path for many electric modellers. Erfolg
I was thinking, oh, oh, the pain! Although the Tiger Moth has been done to death, what about a Tiger Moth. The one that is seldom modelled, and if it is done, tends to be a big IC. The DH 71 rather than the DH 82. The original had a nice colour scheme of white and red, with a scalloped leading edge. Tim Hooper
Erf, One of my clubmates turned up with a 60" (ish) version a couple of weeks ago. From an old kit or plan he inherited apparently. Fast, but flew very well. tim
Steve Adams
Tim, How about an Avro Commodore,or a Miles M39? saw them on wikipedia...just trying to think out of the box for you now though im no good at uploading pics so you may have to check them out! JohnnyB
I would like to see a model of the Scottish Aviation Twin Pioneer - affectionately known as the 'Twin Pin'. This aircraft is very rugged and has a good solid fixed undercarriage. It is a subject that is rarely modelled and could be designed as the full size with all the STOL (slats and flaps etc.) features. Should be a nice slow flying model with good landing characteristics. With electric power I think this model would look great in the RAF raspberry ripple colour scheme of the Empire Test Pilots School. John.
