Andrew Price 2
All good fun isn't it Graham, but, I suspect our local two seater Spitfire is a mite more refined both to hear and see.
Graham Davies 3
Indeed Andrew. We are close enough to Duxford to get Spitfires and other assorted exotica from time to time. There is also a Rapide that flies out of Marshalls in Cambridge. That's a nice thing to see in the air. Graham
Andrew Price 2
Nice being an anarak sometimes isn't it? Well I'm blowed. A Spit flew over as I typed that. You could send the Rapide over anytime, please? Long time since I've seen one of those.
David P Williams
This afternoon's treat was an A400 at literally treetop height almost straight over the house. It's usually Chinooks or Hercules, and they're often in pairs at 11 or 12 at night.
Chris Berry
Chinook just flew over me. Not sure of direction but I'm in Leicestershire.
Erfolg
There does seem to be a lot of Chinook activity, across the UK. How many are there? In a way I was surprised to see a few in the NW of England, in that I have never seen one before, what do they carry that is unique?

Andrew Price 2
Just now. Low and directly overhead. A very loud and unusual sound. Obviously props, obviously lots of em! Turns out to be The Blades, in a very tight formation with either two Spits Or one Spit and a Hurricane (happened pretty quickly so not sure). 5th Blade buzzing around everyone - obviously a camera ship. Tea and bikkies at Sywell by now I would think!
Tim Hickey
Didn't see Blades today but a Spitfire and P51 Mustang were in formation over our house about 15 mins East of Sywell. Lovely sight and sound.
Andrew Price 2
A Mustang!! Back to ATC aircraft recognition classes for me then, Tim! A couple of articles on the ITV local news re Battle of Britain commemorations but our stuff not seen. Trying Beeb now. Yes. You don't have to see them really - just listen! Much joy. john davidson 1
Last evening we had a sonic boom from two Typhoons scrambling from their tempoary Leuchars base to intercept two Russian bombers coming down from the the Norwegian area.. Apparenly this is within ther right in international air space but they refuse to co operate with traffic control so must be identified
Mike Etheridge 1
In the past it has been Concord and when I was gardening the Lancaster circled over our house about three times at relatively low level. Yesterday a Paramotor flew over, I am sure he saw me taking a number of photos as he obligingly dropped down to a lower level. Here are a couple of pictures. Andrew Price 2
Well Tim, On the late news my recognition skills are spot on - 'twas a Hurricane after all. Lots of exotica up yesterday, so a good day for a touch of spotting. Couple of nicely formated Chippies over today but not much else
Mike Etheridge 1
Two Buzzards flew over just now as one did yesterday. They send the Parakeets wild and usually the Crows but not today.
leccyflyer
Not quite over the house, but I did see the Spitfire on her tour of NHS hospitals, away in the distance. The half an hour later an Extra 300 went right over head - it was motoring though -by the time I got out in the garden it was a dot in the distance. Tim Hickey
Andrew, Blades were indeed in formation with a Spitfire and Hurricane over Biggin Hill for the BoB 80th anniversary. Was on a news report on TV. The Spitfire and P-51 over us can usually be seen parked up outside the blister hangers at Sywell. The Spit is owned by Carolyn Grace and the P-51 is 'Contrary Mary'. Blades did a full display at Sywell yesterday as part of a corporate day. Very impressive. Tim
Andrew Price 2
Hello Tim, Yes the bulletin I saw had the Spit And Hurricane up with the Blades. Would they have all returned together, via, overhead my house at Finedon. I certainly heard the Blades on the day but didn't see them at all. They normally practice just out of sight, whilst making some nice noise - nearby, so thats quite normal. I was aware of the Grace aircraft being based at Sywell but not of the P51. Meanwhile, where do you think the Hurricane is based, Tim?
PatMc
Posted by Mike Etheridge 1 on 16/09/2020 14:24:06: Two Buzzards flew over just now as one did yesterday. They send the Parakeets wild and usually the Crows but not today. Talking of buzzards, about a year or two ago I spotted 5 flying over our house heading east. We're only about 200 yds or 300 yds from the North Sea so I knew they'd either turn north or head back. I grabbed my bridge camera & caught three of them doing aerobatics over the house a few minutes later. The resolution isn't great as they were quite high so I've cropped the images for a closer look. GrumpyGnome
Impressive birds, buzzards. I am still in awe at the sheer number around us - close to Filey on the East Coat. A pair seem to favour our flying field and throughout summer, I would invariably find them on the runway, taking to the air as I turn into the field. For the last few weeks, there has only been one though.... Before retirement in April, I used to work in Skipton a few days a week and be amazed at the number of Kites near Harewood house near Leeds. I, for one, am glad the raptor numbers seem to be increasing. GG
Tim Hickey
Andrew, I think the P-51is based at Sywell and is operated by Warbirdflights. They also have a Buchon (similar to an ME109). We go to Sywell quite often when the weather is nice. Take a picnic and sit on the grass near the museum. Never fail to see some type of warbirds parked up. Andrew Price 2
OK Tim. Thanks for that. Only yesterday.I had thought I should do the same as I seem to be missing a trick - and so local! Now! Where did I put my camera, cheese, pickle and that old Corona bottle for my water? Andrew.
Richard Ashworth
Hopefully there could be more Hurricanes flying in the UK in the next few years. As a second anorak I did some research and there are 10 “proper” Hurricanes on the UK G- register two of which are owned and presumable sat in Germany. That is in addition to the two on the Battle of Britain Memorial flight. Most seem to either with restorers or likely to be restored. None seem to be static display only. dejampea
Aint you guys got some building to get on with, you can check out what's flying nearby on the app-- flightradar24. currently there are some 23 identified ,[it even tells you details of the plane] aircraft nearby the west Cotswolds , where I live. Back to building I go
Andrew Price 2
Hello dejampea, Never got round to building, my friend, but I do enjoy avaiation "things" and have done for nearly 70 years when from Harrow we took trips up to The Battleaxe (i think thats the name) pub which sits on the end of the Elstree runway. Great stuff. Anyway to cut a long storey short, I have had a daytime look at FL24, I normally have to on in the evenings and indentify all the traffic that comes overhead, and the only thing of real interest is an East Anglian Air Ambo from Norwich en route to London City. An unusual movement methinks. Good luck with your current build - and it's maiden!
Graham Davies 3
Not my house, unfortunately, but this chap was enjoying some slope lift (only just) over Hemsby beach yesterday. And today an Extra 300 with the smoke on treated us to some nice big aeros. And, fish and chips. Life doesn't get much better!
