Joe Anderson
Hi Guys got some parts cut today for the new three blade plate and some parts for the two blade setup We made a mistake with three holes but was easily fixed when I came to build up the head I will post info and video when I get a chance to test fly the new plate Joe Can you spot the mistake? Three new holes Edited By Joe Anderson on 02/01/2015 16:27:
Terry Whiting 1
Rich, I know i'm no where near ready to produce the two blades, but after adding the recommended tip weight to equal each blade @ 50g, I take it you then find the blades span CoG and balance the pair as you would the three blade head. I was thinking final balancing the two blades when fitted to their bespoke head. or Terry Joe,I look at that router with envy and think to myself......If only..... Joe Anderson
Assembled the two blade version with an extra 2mm layer on the bottom to stop any down flex on heavy landings And added a circle to equalize the distance from the blade to the hub Again I will post once I have had a chance to fly it Joe

Baz Lewis
Anyone know where to get a couple of metal geared 9g servos that are in stock.....please enclose the link if you can so I can order em without the use of Google search.....I had the gyro tip over a couple of times and the servo arm was assuming a different neutral each time. So I took the faulty servo apart (Towerpro MG90s) only to find that the top driving gear was the only metal gear in the case, the others were nylon. When they say metal geared, that's what I expect......
Baz Lewis
**LINK** I've ordered a couple of these for starters......
Terry Whiting 1
Hi Bill, You are not letting the grass grow under your feet , Are you using carbon rod or tube. I was toying with the idea of using tube which I have in stock but ended up using spruce, I enjoyed your canopy vid, but if you don't mind I will take a rain check on that method... cheers Terry
john stones 1 - Moderator
I knew it was small...it's called the Atom never realised how small though the blogs make it look bigger Better go to Specsavers methinks John
Phil Winks
Posted by Baz Lewis on 02/01/2015 20:46:39: **LINK** I've ordered a couple of these for starters...... They look fine Baz, I'm using these at 11g I don't think the extra 6g on the Atom will make that much difference and as you say you want all metal gears, that's bound to add a little weight

Mike Stevens
Yaeee - finally managed to mould my canopy - lost count of bottles....now just need to trim around for push rods - need to be careful here so I don't ruin it - any tips to mark and cut in three dimensions? Steve Jones 2
Nice one Mike, I cut small parts away in stages until it cleared the servo arms and rods
Joe Anderson
Test flew the new three blade plate and the modified two blade plate The Wot 4 had been trimmed for a different head and the takeoff was a wee bit out of trim They both handled well and I did not find any problems I do like the sound from the two blade setup Joe
BILL PETTIT
Terry : I used square tube. NOT SOLID. I think that would be way too stiff. Bill

Martin McIntosh
Continued. I have made a few changes, mainly in mounting the ESC and Rx externally to give cooling and enlarge the battery space since the only suitable ones I have are 1000 or 2200mAh. The fus paint is a disaster since I did it with Humbrol matt and gave it a coat of Aerogloss. I should have known better than to use that stuff again because it reacted with the enamel and will not fully harden. The spec. is: Motor - TGY 2830/11 1000kv ESC - 25A Battery - Zippy Compact 2200 Prop - APC-E 10x5 Consumption - 165W Weight - 680gm Servos - MG90S + E-sky 9gm digi. I pinched the rotor from my as yet unflown CFL but am not happy that I have weighted the blade LE`s correctly so may make up another set. When the electric fence has been removed from around the patch I shall go out and try it.
Terry Whiting 1
Joe, That was a neat bit of flying, and pleased the redesigned flex head was successful, I think you are the fist to try it Terry
Gary Manuel
Martin, Is the electric fence interfering with electronics or just stopping you from climbing over it ?
Richard Harris
Martin, Nice job, I am interested in the head you have made? It looks a bit 'Tom Wright' to me? is the bearing holder the plates and bearings from one of those electric flight gearboxes? Good luck with flying her and keep it in close. Rich
Martin McIntosh
Thanks Joe and Rich. The head is indeed a Tom Wright type and yes, the bearings are from an electric gearbox. I have another which uses old cheapo motor bearings; also some more blades, these covered in glass fibre but again untested. They were much more difficult to balance. I intend to make a further set, this time with 1/8x1/4 spruce between the LE and blade plus 16g piano wire set in to give them weight here. Forever the experimenter! The electric fence does not bother 2.4gHz but is in the way unless the wind decides to blow straight down the patch.
