i12fly
I just had an email, says from Hobbyking, that I've left something in my cart and not completed the order, and that I should follow a link. I didn't because I know it isn't true and just deleted the email. It was just headed 'Hi' which made me suspicious.

ASH.
Hi Percy, sorry to say but Hobbyking are quite informal - they want to be your pal. I've had these same emails from them and just deleted. Things left in cart will be looked at another time!
Tim A
Have had email's in the past from a couple of online stores in the US, Motion RC was one when I was window shopping and checking freight costs. I left something in the cart but did not complete the transaction. Certainly Hi is a bit suspicious. I would go to HK log in and check if there is anything is sitting in your cart, that is if you have actually been there recently.
iqon
I think it`s Genuine ....maybe part of their new website design. had same email but deleted, I`ll buy it when i`m ready ....

cymaz
I've had one. Bought some stuff from HK. Went to check from the cart, ( the window was still open), nothing showing. So deleted the mail and didn't open any links.
brokenenglish
I've inadvertantly left things in my HK cart, and I've never had any email...
Frank Skilbeck
Yep, I've had the same and have shutdown the site with things in the cart. I always do this, as if I press buy, the day after I remember something I should have added, this way I get a couple of days thinking time Edited By Frank Skilbeck on 21/10/2017 20:45:

Dave Hopkin
If you have ANY doubt whatsoever about an email being genuine, DO NOT follow the supplied link Go the the site and log in normally and look, in this case at your cart HK might send links but it is against best practices and in the financial industry it is contrary to FCA code of conduct to send links - so if you get an email from a Bank with a link DO NOT OPEN IT no matter how genuine looking it seems
AndyD
seems like every ones getting this message, checked my cart and its empty so deleted message.
John Privett
Posted by ASH. on 21/10/2017 19:45:48: Hi Percy, sorry to say but Hobbyking are quite informal - they want to be your pal. ASH - I think Percy's point was that a genuine email would usually address you by name, so it would say "Hi Percy" not just "Hi". And certainly not something like "Dear customer". J V R
Just checked my spam box and its the same for me... Edited By J V R on 22/10/2017 01:44:
i12fly
Just to add there was nothing in my cart on Hobbyking and hasn't been for a couple of months so it wasn't genuine
Steve Hargreaves - Moderator
I suspect it probably was genuine in fact.....many online sites record your visit via cookies & it's not unusual for the site (if it recognises you) to send an email "reminding" you to finish off your purchase; indeed this is a well known "method" to attract extra discount....add something to the basket then leave the site. Many online traders will contact you with a "special offer" such as "an extra 5% to complete your purchase". All that said it pays to be cautious & Mr Hopkins advise is very wise & sensible.... CARPERFECT
iTS the website that does it. try put something in your cart , then delete it, if you then leave the site it says you have something in your cart. it promps you to have another look. and you might buy it this time, its a sales pitch. nothing to get concerned about. PatMc
I think it's genuine. I left something in my HK cart a few weeks ago without deleting it or completing the purchase & have had the message - "Left something behind?" "Hi , We've noticed you've left something in your cart. It's not too late to seal the deal and complete your order...." If I had decided to complete the order I'd have ignored any link in the email & gone to the HK site in the normal way. Old Geezer
No - I hadn't left anything either - so I thought - but there was something despite it not showing in the 'cart'. That was yesterday - I just deleted the item, closed down and thought nothing of it - after reading the current messages I've followed the advice of the more savvy contributors and changed my password. As I have a 'backup' email address, would it be safer to use that for HK in future, or is that overkill?
Denis Watkins
Changing you password is good enough OG. You could use your other email and someone could mess with that too. Just stick to your usual account email and have a good password.
ted hughes
You can get good bargains from these follow-up emails. If a store notices you nearly bought something, they will often be prepared to haggle over the price, and chase you up (it is all automated)! Some people are a bit too suspicious of phishing.
