Robin Colbourne
Posted by wingcoax on 16/01/2020 23:43:07: Robin, what about the "mascot" Wingcoax, I guess it depends where you are. I've only ever seen/flown one DB Mascot, but they may well be the default trainer in some clubs. Peter Christy
Well, the "Taurus" dominated fixed wing-aerobatics for many years, and clearly influenced many other designers. On that basis, I would think it deserves to be regarded as a trendsetter, iconic AND common - at least in 60s aerobatic circles! -- Pete

kc
The thing is that the most popular model depends on what club you join - the chief instructor at a club likes one trainer design and persuades his trainees that that is the one to have. Same with more advanced models - the hotshot pilot flies model X and all the wannabe hotshots get one too. Another club has a different hotshot with different models....... Just a few designs seem timeless and always fly well Wot4, Ugly Stik etc etc

ron evans
For a trendsetter how about the Astro Hog by Fred Dunn, from 1957. Probably the first low wing aerobat and the daddy of all those that came after, sweeping the board in US competitions. Ron

KiwiKid
Maybe not so popular in Europe, but the Parkzone F-27 Stryker has had a huge uptake worldwide and helped a lot of folks get into the hobby over the years. The first model (brushed motor with seven cell Ni-Mh power) was produced around 15 years ago and it's descendant is still available (in upgraded format) from E-flite. It came in a variety of set ups from RTF package with remote to the bare airframe which retailed for 20 bucks in the States. This allowed all manner of fun stuff to be done to them - here's some of mine. Original with undercarriage and bomb dropper.
