EarlyBird
I have looked at the Sarik web site and got to the point of placing this in my shopping cart. But I can not decide whether to buy just the plan or the plan and laser cut parts. I am progressing towards building from a plan but as the laser cut parts are available and I am happy with the scale I see no benefit in hand cutting everything. Also there are a lot of different ribs to be cut due to the tapered wings. So go with the plan pack with this one and chose an easier model for my first plan build. Seems to make sense to me. Hmmm. What would you do? Cheers Steve
Martian
It's a personal choice it depends whether you want the satisfaction of cutting all the parts yourself and there not many On the other hand the laser cut parts make for a speedier build . Murat Kece 1
Get the laser cut parts too.. So much more efficient..
Peter Miller
On the Fournier Lasercut parts will save quite a lot of marking and cutting, especialy the ribs for that tapered wing. For a simpler model to build from the plan and cutting your own parts out The Ohmen would be a good choice.
EarlyBird
Well then we all agree. Laser cut parts it is for the Fournier. As it happens Peter I was thinking about building The Ohmen at some stage. Thanks everyone. Cheers Steve
Fun Flyer
Hi EarlyBird. I'm just, slowly, finising a, very slow, build of Peter's RF4. You may have seen my build thread on here. Its not too complicated a build, mainly thanks I'd say to the skill of the designer. It's all pretty straightforward but there is quite a bit of work in building the wings. I chose not to take the SLEC route but that's just because I like cutting up bits of wood and sticking them to other bits of wood. Let us know how your build goes, at my workrate, real life keeps getting in the way, your RF4 may be flying first.
EarlyBird
Hi Fun Flyer, I certainly have seen your build. I also like cutting and fitting wood with the target of a perfect fit, that's where the challenge is and fun. I have plenty of free time and no distractions except a Ballerina has to be finished first. Obviously you are also a fan of Peter Miller. EarlyBird
After a lot of dithering on my part and a lot of encouragement on your part I have pressed the buy button. There is no going back now The short kit is ordered Which gives me a couple of weeks to clear the decks. Cheers Steve

Fun Flyer
Go for it! Just watch the weight, especially at the tail. The nose is quite short. A short kit!! We expecxt to see completed wings by bed time!! I've just finished the outriggers. Not many excuses left!! Stay safe.
EarlyBird
I have plenty of excuses starting with a Ballerina to finish then workshop to rearrange then ..... also gardening and loads more. I expect to start in a couple of weeks. Cheers Steve
EarlyBird
I have been studying the plan and working out what changes to make for electric. Also ordered four self adhesive cork tiles to put on the MDF building board, MDF does not take pins as it is too hard. Does this mean I have started? I am just planning really. Cheers Steve
Trevor
No, you haven't started. I try really hard to restrain myself from starting my 'Winter Build' before September. This usually means that, during a spell of non-flying weather in August (remember that?) I roll out the plans, start ordering wood, working out what servos, motor etc. I need - and indeed, sometimes preparing a modified building board. So I've defined the starting point as when the scalpel first hits the wood - so you're even allowed to fondle the laser-cut parts if you have them! Enjoy the build.
EarlyBird
Thanks Trevor, Most amusing, made me laugh! But it is September also I have done everything you said including a bit of fondling of the laser cut parts Cheers Steve
Peter Miller
I hope your cork tiles are10 mm thick whoch is what you need for the pins to hold well.
Gary Clark 1
Early bird, trevor, you've definitely put some images in my head that I'm going to struggle to unsee Good luck with the build, always an exciting time starting a new project Gary
EarlyBird
Hi Peter 10 mm was the thickest that I could find so I am reassured to know that is what you use, read that on another thread which was good timing. Gary thanks and yes it is exciting to the point that I am having trouble sleeping, but only at night. Cheers Steve
EarlyBird
Why use impact adhesive for the ply doublers and not wood glue? Cheers Steve
Peter Miller
Because wood glue between two sheets can take ages and ages to dry

Peter Miller
I strongly reccomend Thixofix as the best contact adhesive
EarlyBird
10 mm cork tiles have arrived. I have tested them out, the pins push in without too much effort and the cork seems to grip the pins nicely. Just the job! EarlyBird
Building board cleared and cork tiles fitted. It looks like I have started the build. Cheers Steve
EarlyBird
A new empty building board with nothing on it! So I just had to make a start. Cheers Steve
