Good Service!

I find myself impressed by Best R/C Shops of Halandri, Athens, Greece.

Despite stern strictures from Jonathan Harper warning me against buying a Laser 50, I have gone ahead and bought one because I think that it would be ubercool to fly a Baron with a British engine and British markings in La Coupe Des Barons next year. I'm not an expert on the Super Tigre carburettors which were fitted to the early Lasers but my engine came without a low-speed needle. A quick internet search came up with Best R/C Shops in Athens. They have a website in English and over 250 spares for Super Tigre engines as well as extensive stocks for other marques and for aeromodelling products generally.

Having taken the dog for a walk and eaten breakfast, I dashed off an email to Best R/C Shops explaining my situation in English, with pictures of my carburettor dismantled and assembled, fully expecting not to have a reply until tomorrow. However, within minutes I received a reply from Stelios Koutsos informing me that the part I needed was part no is 22263099. Apparently this is the same low-speed needle for the entire Super Tigre range from the G34 to the 60cc engine. Cost 6€.

I await the arrival of the needle with impatience.

Speaking generally, most businesses these days have raised their game and offer either good or excellent service. A rotten apple in the barrel is soon exposed and with today's social media and websites such as RCM&E, bad or indifferent service is soon called out. Traders simply can't afford to upset customers as they might have in the past (we all have our horror stories, I'm sure) and those that still don't engage will rapidly vanish, as many have.

Goes across all retail sectors - we've just replaced quite a few of our large domestic appliances that had seen better days, and the on-line ordering and delivery from several retailers (shopping around) has been first class.

How's this for exceptionally good service, I bought a new charger and although I always prefer to buy from UK retailers (yes I know that they are all made in China anyway but I'm old fashioned that way) this charger (that I already have three of) is only available direct from China (or Japan), order placed Friday night on Ali Express and in my hand lunchtime today with e mailed notifications every step of the way.

Not only that but delivery by today was actually guaranteed (5 day guaranteed delivery, not sure if weekends count), with compensation paid if it wasn't.

Eat your heart out Royal Mail (who took longer than that to deliver me an Allen Key first class postage from Model Fixings in the UK.

Mention for RC Logic.

I had an issue with Spektrum DX8 (Gen2), the display gave up. Sent off to RC Logic who replaced the screen. This was in March.

Used it three times and on 3rd occasion screen lit but displayed nothing. Contacted RC Logic explained problem and they thought it maybe the mainboard. Anyway sent it away Wednesday (29th). Received e mail today (31st) advised it was dodgy screen which they have replaced, gratis, and it is on its way back.

Brill.

I ordered some bearings from Simply Bearings but I typed in the wrong email address when I set up an account so I didn't know if it had worked.

They sorted it out for me within a couple of emails.

I don't know many companies who even read their emails let alone answer them and quickly.

First class service from Simply Bearings.

Ordered some 3s 2200 turnigy batteries from Hobbyking in January, they haven't been used yet but on receipt I charged them up to storage charge as they were reserve batteries for a number of models. Have been checking them on a regular basis and found that one was self discharging from 40% to 14% over a couple of weeks.

Contacted Hobbyking half expecting them to refuse a refund but no, 48 hours later store credit for the cost of the battery, no complaints here, in fact I ordered some more batteries in their sale!

Interesting.  I bought 4 of the same batteries about 6 months ago in a sale. They were showing a storage charge voltage, so I stored them away. For various reasons I never go to use them until last week. When I put the battery checker on them all 4 were reading 1%. 🥴 A bit late to return them! I put them on storage charge again and need to recheck. I've still not used them in anger yet. My own stupid fault.

Not too late, I bought mine in the sale in January too. Don't need to return them as no courier will take a faulty lithium battery.

Most UK retailers are pretty good now when it comes to on-line sales and shipping - they can't afford not to be given the ease of clicking through the alternatives available and potential customers seeking the best deal.

Most are fair and reasonable with postage rates - one or two do seem to try their luck a bit IMHO, but on the whole, given the time to pick the item, pack it, process the order and get it couriered or dropped off at the post office, then charges I find are well worth it.

A switch that I ordered from Slough Models was postage included and another switch from another shop (don't recall which one now) was just £3.50.

I haven't ordered anything from abroad for years since the demise of the old Hobby King and its huge range of stuff - whether they'll recover I don't know.

Sunday, I ordered a new ignition box from Probuild….and made a real dogs dinner of it. In fact, I ordered 3 by mistake. So I sent them an email or two just as a precaution.

I phoned on the Monday and they’d already spotted my ineptitude. Within 5mins I’d had a refund from the multiple orders. And, the ignition is already with a courier.

I’ll give it a 10/10 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳

A big thumbs up to Probuild. I have used them on occasion and found them to be good, but they excelled themselves this time. Yesterday morning ( Wednesday) I phoned them to check availability of a Skywing aircraft and yes they had what I wanted. The last one apparently. It was the white 91" Edge 540 V2 which is the big brother of the 74" one I did a build blog, and flies very well,  on here some time ago. Anyway this morning (Thursday) DHL knocked on my door with ........

Crikey! Well done to both Probuild and DHL particularly for lugging the 8kg box up my front path. This will keep me busy in the autumn rubbish weather. 😀

And hats off to KLMS.

Ordered something yesterday at lunchtime - special offer plus free shipping.  Git a phone call 15 mins later telling me I'd ordered the last one, and asking if I was in today (Saturday)? I responded that I would so they sent it overnight.  Arrived at 10:30.  Well done KLMS.

Not so much impressed by APC. 'Safe Place' is registered as the enclosed porch.  Coming back from a quick dog walk, I found the parcel out in the rain next to the back gate.... SMH
