Vintage
Hello everyone sorry my limited english. I built the fuselage with various modifications. Next step elevator+rudder. I want to show some photos where i had problems during fuselage assembly. The balsawood in this kit has natural curvature. I solved the problem by heating with hot airon +steam. Immediately when i got the sides straight i glued the nose with 15 minute epoxy glue. Edited November 2, 2023 by Vintage english

Having modified the nose, but only just in height (I didn't widen the fuselage sides!). Ok, to follow the shape of the radiator i added soft balsa, on engine cowl. My technique is to drill (1,5mm)hole and introduce drops of cyanoacrylate (thin) very fast. After aliphatc glue, but just near the last hole and again Thin CA. NOTE: be careful to do not stick your finger, use transparent tape or transparent glove from supermarket. And fine tubes for CA container for introduce small drops! Vintage
Ok I added more balsa and wood strips. I used cardboard. for cut the last form/ordered of balsawood To insert it inside and behind, I cut the central parts and the base. I took the measurement the same as the one form/ordered next to it. ONE other photo of precedent work! Edited November 6, 2023 by Vintage

But i worked with steam/vapor, by putting the panels inside pot 5 minutes. I covered the small panel with aluminium adhesive. Chris Freeman 3
Very nice project. I scratch built one many years ago and was flying it at an event in Oudtshorn in South Africa. Dave Boddington was at the event and I gave him the TX and he really enjoyed the way it flew. He had hardly given me the TX back when a 1/4 scale cub did a downwind pass and flew through the SE5 totally destroying it. For the rest of the event all David would say was how glad he was that he had given me the tx back! Please watch the weight as they do fly better when light. Albert Ace
If I was told; 'you have one more build left before the grim deal's it would be the Flair SE5a. My own ( number two ) is still flying. . I have one kit left.

Albert Ace
That's much like I did on mine. 1/16th ply rad shutters over litho plate front. I cut holes under the shutters to aid cooling. Albert

Does anyone know what grade aluminium was used to make the interplane struts? I need to re-make some for a re-build that got trashed during a move. Best of luck with the rest of the build
Geoff S
Do you mean the cabanes (the top wing support)? The interplane struts are hardwood IIRC.
Jon H
The interplane struts are just lengths of spruce/beech. You could make them from 3mm ali i guess and paint them brown but wood was standard in the kit.
