How do you make the DECISION.

Just wondering how you guys go about selecting your next model.

I just spent a tortured month agonizing over the purchase of a new model. One day I was definitely going to get it, the next I was wavering. In the end, I decided to get it just so I could get some damn sleep.laugh

Here's the criteria I pour over before making a decision:

1) Can I afford it? *

2) Do I really need it?

3) Do I have a suitable place to fly it?

4) Do I have a suitable place to store it?

5) Do I have anything similar already?

6) Do I have existing spare gear/batteries I can use in it?

7) Do I have time to build it?

8) Does it have favourable reviews?

9) What will the resale market be like?

10) Can I possibly stand not having it?

* May involve consultation/negotiation with your significant other.

So, I would be interested in anything else you guys look at in the decision making process.

I find it easy to make a decision just ask the wife , the answer is always No!

If I do that the answer is usually yes. I guess I'm very lucky and she's the family's financial controller, too. It's me who does the agonising.

1) Can I afford it? *

Obviously, otherwise you wouldn’t be considering it

2) Do I really need it?

Probably not, otherwise you’d have bought it already

3) Do I have a suitable place to fly it?

This one’s a showstopper. If the answer is no then move on

4) Do I have a suitable place to store it?

Never a problem. If you really do reach crunch point just sell a couple of others – all part of the natural rotation of the hangar

5) Do I have anything similar already?

If you did, and it already ticked all the boxes, then you wouldn’t be thinking about this new purchase

6) Do I have existing spare gear/batteries I can use in it?

Minor detail, you’ll find some or buy some

7) Do I have time to build it?

Not a factor. If you don’t have more boxes than you’ll ever get round to building then you’re not a “normal” modeller

8) Does it have favourable reviews?

If it had stinkers you wouldn’t be considering it. Otherwise not an issue

9) What will the resale market be like?

No point in factoring this in. Anyone can have a “whoops”, and the resale market for stuffed aircraft isn’t great. Any sell-on value is a future bonus, not a consideration for here and now

10) Can I possibly stand not having it?

Well, as you’re doing all this prevaricating it seems you might. How do you decide – ah, that’ll be back to question 1 then …….. laugh

I must be one of the lucky few whose better half encourages me to go flying.

Before last Chirstmas she came with me to the local shop looked up on wall saw a Hanger 9 Corsair, said to the gents behind the counter I'll put that and the engine to suit on layby, so who's a lucky boy.

A few guys at the club want my wife to have a chat with there wifes.
