Braddock, VC
On the face of it this may seem frivolous but the amount of aggro it causes between the wife and I is out of all proportion to the damage done. In my home, I am the tea maker and recently bought a new teapot to replace the bone china one which was vase shaped and useless. This teapot is fine until pouring tea, the liquid initially pours at a quick but steady pace then every so often it literally gushes out blasting tea all over the work surface. I thought that maybe the teabags where the cause so have taken to removing them when the tea has had its five minute brew time. It still does it but not on every occasion. I don't have much hair left but this is causing me to tear the little that's left out, HELP any ideas?

kc
Put the teabags in the cups and just use the teapot for the used bags!
Keith Berriman
Sounds like the lid has no vent hole maybe try without the lid and problem solved so then you may have to introduce some small packing piece under the lid to let the air in. Have a nice day
PatMc
You won't get a decent cup of tea using tea bags. Sort the teapot, buy a strainer & use proper tea.

Have a nice day I agree that this sounds like the problem. The tea exits, creating a partial vacum, flow slows down. Then suddenly the teapot gets an inrush of air, the vacum dissapears and the tea gushes out! A simple way to test this is to remove the lid prior to pouring. If the effect goes away then you have found your problem. To perminantly fix it you will need a vent hole or a spacer! BEB

Martian
Having problems pouring a cuppa is not frivolous, I agree vent hole make a new lid out of balsa
Trevor
If the un-vented lid is proved to be the problem (it would be my guess, too), then a pip of epoxy at one point under the rim of the lid should be enough ease the airlock. John Helling
Drill a hole in the lid with a tile drill (not on Hammer mode)

Braddock, VC
I've been out flying. Thanks for the replies. Lid does have a vent albeit a small one of about 2 mm. Can't buy another as this is the correct colour for her indoors. I will try holding the lid a little open then, if that's successful, enlarge the vent. Keith Berriman
Hi Braddock. Is the hole clear. Could it be blocked with glaze??

It's clear. Blessed thing just did it again with no teabags. Thing is, this teapot, unlike others we've had, has no strainer or strum in the opening to the spout and I thought it may be associated with that. Mrs Pat doesn't share my taste in tea, she often has a cup of hot water or hot water with no more than a dash of tea in it. BTW, worst tea I've ever tasted was made by an Italian/Ozy friend. He would bung a tea bag in a mug of cold water then heat it up in a microwave oven - yuk. I never had the heart to disillusion him regarding his tea making ability, so always chose coffee at his house - Gino made great coffee. However one of his Oz friends wasn't as polite as me, when he was offered a cuppa said "Gino your tea tastes like "expetive omitted", why d'ya think the Poms always have coffee when you make it."
