Paul De Tourtoulon
Sorry you are dead right, I read that solo was from the rear seat but in the pilots notes from the rear,,, https://www.aeropassion.fr/resources/DEHAVILLAND+DHC-1+CHIPMUNK+20+PILOTS+NOTES.pdf
Danny Fenton
Spinach entered its first scale comp on Wednesday and really performed well. I was leading going into the second round when a typical Seagull trait, the oleos slipped and the wheel ended up facing the left wing tip! ho hum that ended that flight, and we slipped to third, still a great result. Well yesterday we had another go, this time at the Baldock scale comp. First round went very well, the model really does go well, and round two it was even better. Finally ended up 5th out of 15, half a point behind Martin Fardell I need more practice, but I am seeing improvement. There is another comp at Skelebroke this Sunday, not sure I will be able to get away again, but fingers crossed. The sun has meant a sun shade has been required to protect the film. Danny Fenton
So it seems the Chippy will be entering the Nationals this weekend F4h, Stand-off-scale. It will lose loads of marks for starting life as a humble artf, but the more I do the better. Added a few more details... So I made some new wheels. And a static prop and spinner See you at Buckminster maybe? Cheers Danny Edited September 5, 2022 by Danny Fenton
Danny Fenton
Well I couldn't face that blooming tail-wheel any longer Still not right but gave me a chance to try butt jointing piano wire using silver solder, will it be strong enough. I also used flattened tubing to form the ends of the fork to accept an M2 axle. Worked well I think. Cheers Danny

Danny Fenton
Well the event wasn't a big success for me, but the social side was excellent. The last minute tweaking to the gyro were a bit of a disaster and i didn't figure out what was going on in time. Never mind I learned a great deal, and had a fab weekend. Well done to Brian Seymour for winning Stand-off and Steve Jackson for winning Scale. Pic courtesy of Brian, thx again. More pics from the weekend are on my Flickr page Cheers Danny Edited September 12, 2022 by Danny Fenton

Thanks, to say the weekend wasn't a success would be unfair, everything ran smoothly, I achieved 9,000 steps each day and the social scene was really good. I even really enjoyed flying the model. Just wish I had set the model up better before the event. Cheers Danny
Danny Fenton
Added more detail as it was a good exercise in more silver soldering. Fashioned a somewhat better tailwheel however thats now it finished as far as I am concerned cheers Danny
Danny Fenton
A little update, for those who are not familiar with silver soldering. The tailwheel that I made has had ten landings/touch and go's and is still intact. So even a simple butt-joint is very strong indeed. Manish Chandrayan
Hello, need some help with the Seagull Chipmunk assembly. This is regarding the supplied 7 numbers G10 horns. While 5 are of same shape and size, 2 are taller than the rest. Where do the two taller ones go? Flaps I suppose? Edited July 10, 2023 by Manish Chandrayan
Eric Robson
Hi Manish Just looked at the instructions and it doesn't tell you, but I put the big ones on the flaps on mine and I have had many flights with it now. I recommend putting small tie wraps round the flap hinges as they can pull out very easily. I have heard someone heated the pins with a soldering iron to swell the end but knowing my luck I'd melt the whole thing.
Manish Chandrayan
Thank you Eric. That confirms my thoughts as well. The base being larger is meant to go in the flaps that are thicker than the control surfaces. The flap hinges don't inspire confidence. I will have to do something to them. What have others done? That is other than using fuel tube/tie wraps as keepers
Danny Fenton
Sorry chaps just seen this. I remember struggling with this too. and without going and looking would guess that Eric is correct. I used short lengths of fuel tubing to hold the clips closed. As I resprayed mine this all got coloured the same as the underside so not so noticable. By the way that butt jointed tailwheel is still holding up! Lost the tailwheel lost time out, but thats nowt to do with that joint 😉 Cheers Danny
Manish Chandrayan
Thanks Danny, Regarding the tail wheel unit, if I decide to go your route (at a later date) I would slip on a piece of brass tube with the end notched to take the wheel yoke and lips folded over. That way, not only will the wires be butt joined but be strengthened by the surrounding brass tube and filled in silver solder.

Quite amazed how strong it has turned out to be.
Danny Fenton
I have been contacted by a modeller in Holland, Pascal. He was asking for the STL file to print one of Chris Bott's spinners. Pleased to say Pascal test flew his Chippy and it flew perfectly. Pascal has followed my thread on my silver/blue Chippy and repainted his Chippy and applied all the hidden rudder horns and other little upgrades, looks great, well done pascal. This was from Pascal: I have to give you a Maiden report. Its a kitty kat to fly in deed. I have flown 9 min on a 6s 5000mah. I have 4 of them so i made 3 more flights after the Maiden. Pushing the enveloppe a bit further . Immelmans ,lomcevacs, split S,rolls and loops flawlessly. Landing speed @ walking pace thanks to the flaps. This one is a keeper. Regards from Holland. Paul De Tourtoulon
A bit 'bare' at the moment, when are the decals going on ?
Danny Fenton
I said something similar, hopefully soon. Still looks great though. I don't know if Pascal painted the spinner or printed in the day glo.
Natosfinest
@Danny Fenton and @Paul De Tourtoulon Spinner is printed in black PLA then sanded and apply primer, etc etc and then two layers of dayglow to match the colour of the Cowling. Decals are in the production proces. and will be ready next week. It will be a portuguese chipmunk eventually. The respray i did was with motip automotive spray cans. First scuffed up the Oracover yellow film then did the respray. I finished it with a layer of glitsa , we use it in the Netherlands to protect your Wooden Floor etc. Only thing to add is the landing light, because the stock ones provided in the kit are to weak in my opinion. _ im planning on adding details on a second canopy i have to order and ordering a new cowl. maybe make the cowl operational with movable cowl panels . Regards from the netherlands Pascal
Paul De Tourtoulon
I use the dayglo red from spray tins for road markings, this will need a gloss varnish to make it stand out.
