toto
Languishing in the sun watching thr incoming and outgoing flights from my balcony. So many liveries I haven't even heard of. Did not bother posting any more wonky pictures. I may take a few for more ideas for my AL 37 though. Enjoying the relaxation before I arrive back to normality ..... work ..... and taking delivery of the new mancave. Looking forward to that to give me some where to indulge myself. Oh well .... looks like it's another beer then. Toto
toto
Well ..... flying home late tomorrow night. Maybe get stuck into my subframes on sunday before starting back at work on Monday morning. I have until the 31st of the month to have them build and treated and the DPC installed as well. Then the fun begins. So long for now Toto
toto
Well home again ...... and can't sleep so turning my mind to the mancave build again. The shed arrivesin a couple of weeks and asyou would expect, the shell will go up first. A bitof a no trainer there then. Once up and wind and water tight Ihave a few individual projects to do all of which need to be done in a certain order. I'll be fitting through ventilation ( high and low level ), electrical wiring and cellutex wall insulation all obviously prior to lining the internal walls out. I am considering running some HDMI cables to strategic spots to allow for webcams to be installed. My thinking is that rather continuing with the huge photo fest type posts that I do for assemblies etc, I could do video sessions instead. If a pictures says a thousand words ........ what would a video do. There would not be a video for everything but some of the larger subjects could have an initial video with any odds and ends hoovered up with the odd still image. What's your thoughts ??? Who thinks that videos would be a more interesting way to go. I will probably run some anyway as this is the time to do it. Before I lose easy access to the structure and have the chance to have everything concealed. I will be renewing my trusty old laptop which is pretty much goosed anyway for either another ..... or a desk top and was thinking about including video editing software and ensuring the hardware was up to the job of speed thirsty software suites..... another learning curve but something that can fill my evenings rather than interfere with flying time .... whenever that returns. All comments welcome. Toto
john davidson 1
just bought a Chromebook running Linux, much cheaper than old one running microsoft and fast too. The old one , 5 years ojd, over time had got painfully slow
toto
I have a friend who was well established in Michelin's IT department in their Dundee plant before it shut down looking at specifications for a desktop for me. He understands the technical garb well. Whatever it ends up it will be running with Davinci Resollve video editing software. He has experience of this and thinks it's ideal. Another learning curve. toto
Countdown until the weekend. Two 9ft x 12 ft sub-frames to make up one 18ft x 12 ft main subframe to be made. I have my sparky buddy popping over to lend a pair of hands along with me and my son. Should have these thrown together on the Saturday leaving the application of preservative and the DPC to apply on the Sunday. The shed comes on the 31st of October but I will have a few days before to do any last minute stuff as I was just informed by my Client on return from my holidays today that I will be finished up on Friday the 25th October so looking for my next commission. .... such is the nature of Freelance working. I got 7 months out of an estimated 3 month fixed contract so won't complain. Anyway, looking forward to getting stuck in at the weekend ..... come hail or shine. DaveB1
Here's my shed project after a month of hard graft. I'd knocked up a temp shed 10 years ago to build a boat in, but it leaked horrendously and had to go. 2 weeks and literally 15+ full estate load trips to the tip later, the old shed emptied, pulled down, chopped up and carted off. Overhanging trees and undergrowth cut back adn removed - The whole area had been paved (likely 30 years ago) which is great but tree roots etc made it very uneven so I laid and levelled over 30 slab pads (backbreaking) Maybe a 7m x 3m wasn't such a good idea Floor laid over a membrane and a very skilled assembler (Martyn) commenced the build 2 days later it was up 21mm Loglap wall - Great job by Express Timber (Grantham) Painted Yesterday and Gutters up today Edited October 14, 2024 by DaveB1 2
toto
First class. The rebuild element of clearing and dumping is back breaking. I can confirm that. I was lucky my son had access to a van which helped enormously. Looks like a very good quality build that should last for years. Whats the plans for the inside ? Insulated, lined, electric, ventilation etc. ? Thanks for posting up your images, always great to see what others do and to add inspiration and a little light at the end of the tunnel. I'll be posting up more progress photos of my own this weekend. Many thanks Toto Edited October 14, 2024 by toto

toto
Hi Philip, One of the main reasons to wire was the ability to charge the batteries for the cameras in place and to download to my PC without removing the memory cards either. Nothing set in stone yet and looking at various options but preferably make a choice before the completion of the internal lining etc. Toto
Philip Lewis 3
I use Imou wireless cameras, powered from a usb socket which I have in all my mains sockets, you can download to pc via the network, I'm sure there are many others as well but means you only need power not power and an HDMI link, your choice though. Toto If quality is a priority with your video stream and you want to keep costs in check I'd suggest sticking with wired HDMI and installing the cables so they're easily replaceable. toto
made a start ..... got into a rhythm with it and in no time at all ..... hey presto...... Job done ..... had to pack up the framing in places as the garden is running down from back to front a bit .... Not shown on the earlier photos but i took some more since then .... and the last shot for now .... as I mentioned ...... preservative and DPC still to go to have it ready to accept the new shed structure. cheers for now toto Edited October 19, 2024 by toto
toto
And the heavens have opened. No painting or DPC getting done today I dont think. I may start ordering up some of the electrical items. I'm considering using "dado " trunking along my working wall areas to allow me to move the position of the 240volt sockets further down the road as history tells me that I end up repurposing area's of the shed from time to time. I'll be using a mixture of my existing 240volt double sockets which are MK ..... a good make , and some new 240volt sockets with built in USB sockets for charging various things ... mobile phone, Pads, transmitters etc etc. I am sitting on the fence with the lighting. Probably a mix of 4 foot LED batten lights and maybe a couple of specific working lights. ..... not sure yet. Their will be various switching configurations for these to let me use just what I want .... rather than an all or nothing set up. Still toying with installing a couple of cameras, strategically place above or side of certain work flow area's. Still to be decided as is the new PC. Nothing firm on that for now but may install some cabling for the cameras etc as a " just in case " scenario. I am aware that the cabling may not be required depending on the set up that I go for or how I manage the workload from the camera to my PC. I'll do what works best for my way of working / thinking. I' have to wait until the shell is up to " get a feeling " for what space I have b3fore working out how much space I dedicate to what and the best layout / use of the space so no storage units or worktops planned in any firm way at the moment. I'm going to be busy. Toto
toto
Well ....weather holding out so got out and gave the subframe a good coat of preservative. I'll post a picture later ..... right now .... I am having a well earned get together with my mate ..... John Smith. Ordered my 240volt twin sockets with built in USB's and 4 x 4 foot LED batten fittings ..... to start with anyway. I've still not finished on the lighting theme yet ..... more on that later. But for now ..... cheers Toto
