Reality kicking in for drone delivery plans
Colin Carpenter replied to Neil James's topic in All Things Model Flying
Interesting ! 200 hours testing to overfly safely. Aeromodellings got over 100 year’s experience and we don’t overfly buildings etc !! Money talks !! Colin -
My DX9 is 14 yrs old and the battery has been charged with the supplied charger. Zero problems. The capacity of the battery seems unchanged too. Only flown 5 times through this crap winter but voltage still ok on the meter. It gets a charge about 3/4 times a year normally. Colin

Connector for wing with multiple servos
Colin Carpenter replied to Andy J's topic in Gadgets and Electronics
Nick. Have you seen 4Max Maxlock connectors ?? Popular I believe! Colin -
As a contented owner of a faultless 14 year old DX9 I watch the couple of folks using Radiomaster Tx fiddle for ages to set up and have concluded I can’t live long enough to bother to change systems. The DX9 does everything I need for planes/choppers. It’s run for nearly 11 day’s operating time for models flying. The youngster who flys quads in my chopper club has just upgraded his Radiomaster after only a couple of years ! I don’t expect any of this helps David 😂😂😂😂! Colin

I use r/h for aileron, l/h for elevator, top right for rudder. Unusually I think , low rate is switch down because I dont use a neck strap and pinger finch (from helis ) , this helps brace tx ! Colin

Plenty of those in use in my Friday indoor 🚁club. No problems ! Colin

Winter is here....who's been flying?
Colin Carpenter replied to Chris Walby's topic in Flying Field Reports and Chat
Loath to bring lipos into house. In a normal winter an oil rad would be on low in shed , but not this year cos ££££££😱😱! I do bring them in overnight in a lipo safe bag after charging but SWMBO gives me hell ! 😂😂😂😂😂 -
Winter is here....who's been flying?

First time in 9 weeks at 9 this morning. Lovely frost , blue sky and no wind. Flew 2 UMX planes. Lipos on 1 would only run 50% of time. Been in cold shed since early November and they were in hot water bottle blanket but heh ho !😭😭😭Left before thaw. Colin -
Used to use Stablit Express on Heim and Morley Heli fuselages. Never a problem. You could use polyester resin with a powder filler as well. Colin

Sebart Mini Avanti S EDF motor/fan setup
Colin Carpenter replied to Applewood's topic in Electric Ducted Fan
I’ve got the 70mm foamie and have had to buy some high C lipos for it. I normally fly at 9 am and the grass is always wet despite warm nights. If I wait till 11am and use the whole strip I can usually just get it off ! Lovely flyer once it’s up ! Colin -
I agree totally with Jon ! 3D settings are a boom killer when learning to fly. I only use about -3 deg as I’m not an aerobatic flyer and have never been able to orientate on pod and boom helis ! 😢Used to use idle up on ic helis but don’t bother on my T Rex’s. Just too old now. Spekkie AR 7200 handles everything beautifully and I just adjust curves till I get the feel I want ! Colin

Untimely end to somebody's model aircraft
Colin Carpenter replied to Adrian Smith 1's topic in Incident Reports
I have a cherished memory of Bud Boulton (Morley Helicopters) losing a chopper on a JR tx at Sandown. He turned to the crowd and chucked the tx into the deck. BOOM ! Standing ovation !! Few months later my Heim Bell 222 on similar tx went in at the Bristol Morley fly in. I was tempted to emulate Bud !😂😂😂😂Colin -
Being utterly pedantic ,it should be Angels fifteen as used in the ops room terminology of the time !! 🤓🤓🤓Great film though ! Colin

Winter is here....who's been flying?

Went out at 9 on Wednesday! Everything frozen 🥶 solid. Fingertips could only manage 3 lipos despite fingerless gloves ! Couldn’t feel to pick Velcro strap apart on lipo. Used tweezers 😂😂😂😂Must be getting old (er ) 😱😱😱Colin -
RIP Sqn Leader. Indeed this country will never see their like again ! Hope family will allow a 617 sendoff ! Colin

Help to identify Hawker Tomtit colour scheme from B&W photo
Colin Carpenter replied to David Ovenden's topic in Scale Matters
There’s a famous pic of Mossie E0234 on orthochromatic film , at Hatfield prior to maiden 11/1940 ! It looks black and at first glance you would be forgiven for thinking it was a night fighter !! 😂I’ve got a copy stamped WD somewhere but blowed if I can find it ! Anyway , I suspect the Tomtit is yellow. Colin -
Several of us fly on bright windless mornings when below freezing. Luv it ! Lipos are kept in bags with hot water bottle. Then into pocket before flying. Seem to get average run times and benefit is mud is frozen! 😂😂😂😂🥶🥶Colin
