Concorde Speedbird
Credit to Mercedes for letting them race, it was absolutely stunning, each driver for themselves! Behind there was also sublime racing, best race for ages. Can't wait for China! For our league table, I am just one point behind Iquon, but too far from the leaders which is irritating. Ian Jones
So many "Ifs" for me, even though I'd got my predictions wrong I could have still have turned out some decent points.... iff... well that would be telling . A race to remember for it's action but to forget in the fantasy league for me.
Tony H
My points were seriously damaged last race due to my team not saving properly leaving me two driver's short!! Now I have to use one of my 5 team changes to put the drivers backEdited By Tony H on 07/04/2014 10:31:
Pete B
Great race - some edge of the seat stuff there... Pleased with the points haul but could have done better, so the axeman has been doing a bit of smiting this morning.... Pete
Simon Webb
Thanks for your analysis John.....great stuff I picked Rosberg to get Pole....and at the very last minute I changed it to Lewis.lol.. iqon
Red Bull: Daniel Ricciardo disqualification appeal rejected I feel sorry for him as an up and coming driver , but i keep my points.......
Ian Jones
He ran a good race but we will never know if his performance was in some part due to having more fuel to use than everybody else. For him I would have liked the appeal to have succeeded but for F! as a whole this must be the right result.
Pete B
Not sure why they imposed a fuel flow limit anyway. Given that they can only carry 100kg of fuel, I'd have thought it should be up to the team as to how and when they were going to use it - if they're too thirsty at the start they pay the price later..... RichFR
Without a fuel flow limit the amount of power they could get from the motors is unlimited (they can have as big a turbo inlet as they like) overtaking would be impossible they could just up the fuel flow/power to stay in front. Also speed differences between cars would be huge if some are on max power and others saving fuel. They had to limit the air flow or fuel pressure and went with fuel so they had to make them efficient as possible. Sure I read somewhere the difference to Ricardo fuel flow was worth around 0.7s a lap.(that's why they did it) Edited By RichFR on 15/04/2014 12:16:
Pete B
I can understand that, Rich - although it shows how contrived F1 has become over the years in the interests of the manufacturers - a far cry from the early days of reaching a set distance in the shortest possible time... Erfolg
You do suspect that the decision has a lot to do with politics. There does appear to be an issue with fuel transducer. I guess this is about making sure that Red Bull are not front runners this year, than anything else. What does appear to be strange if true, is that the transducers are in short supply as well as being very expensive. Yet if true, Mercedes strangely have the lions share of what is available. Is it a case of the "blue printing" approach to transducer selection, looking for the ones which are at the most advantageous end of the their accuracy? If the engine manufacturers are not allowed to make major changes ti the designs, during the season, it would appear that Mercedes have the championship all but tied up. I guess all the players must have signed up to the regs, yet the fuel flow bit seems more about an endurance trial than racing. Limited fuel, did not stop, sports cars, managing their fuel as a strategy, whilst racing. The present format, seems more about limiting the potential speed differentials than anything else. It has been reported that Redbull have modified the sensors a little and that has caused the multiple failures/discrepancies they have had, other teams have had them fail but it was a complete fail or they ran perfect. If it fails there is a failsafe setting but Redbull ignored it. Redbull had discrepancies and thought they could gain an advantage/cheat because of this. They where repeatedly told to alter their fuel flow and didn't. They gained an advantage from it and Ricardo almost certainly wouldn't have got his podium with the correct fuel flow. They cheated in my opinion. Edited By RichFR on 16/04/2014 11:20:
John Privett
Right then, China this weekend and another early start. P1 and P2 have already been and gone, so it's probably time to get your PREDICTIONS done if you haven't already done them - or consider changing them if you have. Q1 is at 7am (UK time) on Saturday morning, so don't leave it too late!

Phillip Long
Hello you lot, Nice to see this topic here. Mercedes-Benz have been preparing for this new Formula for the last two-odd year's. As for most of the other team's, Red Bull especially, have not taken to preparing to the new reg"s seriously enough to get on top of it....Newey will make it right and Renault"s a sure thing mind-set. Cheers, Phil Edited By Phillip Long on 18/04/2014 12:06:
John Privett
For the benefit of BBC viewers I won't mention any results here yet - other than to say that the league tables have been updated on badger. I've updated the league spreadsheet here - don't click if you don't want to see the results! And I'll be back later with the table once the BBC coverage is underway. John Privett
CS - why not put in some predictions for Spain NOW. You can change them as many times as you want until qualifying starts, and if you don't remember to change them then at least you've got something in place! John Privett
OK then, the BBC-viewers should now be safely away from here viewing the race highlights, so here's how we stand after China; Modelflying Forumites - Passcode: 651923 Pos Team Manager Pts 1 Revers Racing Pete B 641 2 Richfr F1 Richard 629 3 JohnPs Plonkers JohnP 563 4 IPJnet F1 Ian Jones 539 5 Typhoontone typhoontone 537 6 iQonics GP Racing iqon 525 7 CrackYak Racing Karl grey 494 8 Robs F1 Legends Rob Lewis 478 9 Essex Racing Essex Racing 458 10 Norfolk Flyers nss 456 11 Mannschaft Erfolg erfolg 449 12 I could not think of a team name Concorde Speedbird 445 13 Roos racers rk295 426 14 Webby F1 Racing Team Simon Webb 414 15 pits specials john stones 386 16 Darmy1983 Duncan Armstrong 278 17 Lost the Track Dave 251 18 rActive Pat Harbord 212 A few place changes today, most notably at the top where Pete - by getting our best score of the day (193 points) - takes over first place. Second best on the day is Karl with 173 points, enough to move him 3 places up the table to 7th. With only one point less, our third best is Rob - 172 points and also a 3 place gain, moving up to 8th. 4th today is Simon, 166 points, up 1 place to 14th. 159 points gives Robin today's 5th-best core, moving up a place to 13th with iqon scoring one point fewer today - today's 6th-best and also remaining in 6th in the league. Erfolg moves up a place with 157 points today - and I too move up one place with 155 points. Another non-mover in the league (only 3 of those today!) is typhoontone - 149 points, today's =9th best and staying in 5th in the league. On the same score today is Duncan, moving up 2 places to 16th after his late entry into the league. 11th today is Richard, 139 points but not enough to keep top spot - he slips a place to second. 12th is Kev, 127 points slipping one place to 10th. 13th onwards takes into sub-100 scores, probably those trying riskier strategies that didn't pay-off today! So we have Essex Racing scoring 99 dropping a place to 9th. Then John Stones scoring 97 but dropping 2 places to 15th, next is Ian scoring 93 but surviving with only one place dropped in the league, down to 4th. 16th is Dave, 88 points and remaining in 17th, then CS, having forgotten his predictions.... 79 points and 5 places lost today, finally Pat with 45 points dropping to 18th in the league. So that's China finished, next round is Barcelona in 3 weeks time. And don't forget your predictions!
