cymaz
Posted by Gordon Whitehead 1 on 04/12/2017 13:31:14: BTW, what weights are these various large Stampes coming out at? I think the box tops say about 14lb but I find that hard to believe with the size of the model. Both mine came in at 8 kg. Different builders, different kits. cymaz
Posted by Don Fry on 04/12/2017 12:19:17: Bert, what did you use in the Svenson Stampe. I've got an airframe, and I am thinking of using a NGH 25 two stroke. My late Svenson Stampe disliked flying inverted for any length of time......which is why I only have one now
Jon H
150-180 would be my choice for this model. a prop with 6'' pitch and suitable diameter for your engine and its all good
bert baker
One of my local clubs had about 6-8 Stampe's,We did do a comparison of weights and power plus checked and measured the c/g and wing incidence and thrust lines, sadly I have lost all the data, but from what I can remember they were all about the same,
Jon H
Most seem to be about 14-15lbs from what i have seen. There are few porky models but im sure they still fly fine. For c/g i balanced mine exactly on the marks but slightly nose down, the same as i balance all my biplanes. Its pretty much spot on, perhaps a shade nose heavy now the petrol engine has been fitted with all its extra gubbins. All in all im happy with it though so dont want to bother changing it
Gordon Whitehead 1
Thanks for the weights guys. Very instructive. I'm guessing that there isn't much spruce and ply in the model. It now seems to me that I've been using too much of both in my own design bipes
bert baker
Just weighed My Stampe, so with a Zenoah g38 on magnetio with full tank of fuel (could not be bothered to empty it), And a 6volt buggy pack for receiver and the all important AH pilot, brass fittings instead of plastic ones, came out at 8.3 kg or 18.29 lbs Edited By bert baker on 09/12/2017 10:13:
Paul Marsh
OS 120 FS -E. Bit on the low-power side, needs almost full throttle to fly, probably a 150 would be ideal.

I don't think it will turn a big ol prop though so it might lack the grunt needed to overcome all that drag. To be honest though I think a 120 is a little small anyway unless you can find one that swings 18 or 20 inch props really well.
Martin McIntosh
My Precedent one uses a Laser 155 on 19x6 or 18x8, AUW 6.2kg. Go for the 180 for that bit extra.
bert baker
I am tempted to purchase a Laser 180 and fit a Morris motors petrol conversion kit to it, just to see.

Don Fry
Bert, wait for the official launch of the petrol Laser 180. I suspect it will be worth it. Anyway, make sure Jon of Laser, does not know your address. He might drift by and dose yer fuel with grinding paste.
bert baker
Fear not Johns busy, getting engines built, and I don't having 180 to hand.

Don Fry
Your step mate. I am doing hare stew tomorrow, that beast also thought to play fast and lose. A bit more patience and it would have been top hare. Keep yer head down. For stew read jugged hare with a selection of winter vegetables. If you give it large on the loud stick its too fast for scale but its not a rocketship due to the fine pitch of the 20x6 prop. Martins model again is quite sedate and looks great in the air. How does the 125 handle loops? i cant believe its too impressed. Oh and sorry Bert, but if it was as simple as strapping a walbro on i would have been done years ago Edited By Jon Harper - Laser Engines on 11/12/2017 09:07:
