Paul De Tourtoulon
What are these cars priced at in the UK ?. And can you cancel the reversing beep for your neighbours when you arrive at 2am in the morning ?.
Ron Gray
£55k for the Namsan RWD with matt paint finish. Don’t know if the reversing beep can be cancelled, I haven’t looked as a)I can hardly hear it and b)I’m fast asleep in bed by that time. That's the problem, 26.000€ for my Diesel automatic, tow-bar and super sound system 308sw,,, Looking to replace my wife's Fiat 500 bought new for 16.000€ with a few options like its automatic gear box, I tried the electric version, 36.150€🤑 so we got a Hyundi i10, full options with the automatic gearbox 17.600€, there is the problem !. Ron Gray
Wholeheartedly agree, the cost of purchasing an EV is extremely high, although the MG4 I tested is extremely good value for money. On the reversing beep, it can be disabled by pulling a fuse! Doing that also removes the engine noise too, personally I will leave the noises as they are otherwise it can creep up on you! I get plenty of jaywalkers stepping out in front of me when cycling so imagine drivers of silent EV's would too.
John Lee
https://www.gov.uk/government/news/new-noise-systems-to-stop-silent-electric-cars-and-improve-safety ‘From 1 July 2019 all manufacturers must install an acoustic sound system in new types of quiet electric and hybrid electric vehicles to improve road safety.’
Paul De Tourtoulon
I would be willing to pay a 'bit' extra if, they did some sort of plug in battery system like electrical stuff, AAA, AA, types of batteries, maybe 20 klh ones, so when you buy a car you can buy one 20klw battery, 2 or even three, or even hire a couple out if you wanted to increase your mileage to go on holiday. Also, if you could go to a charging station and change your flat battery for a charged one, that would eliminate le 2+ hour charge time with some EV's. "I had a dream",,,,
Ron Gray
18 mins from 20% - 80% on superchargers for the Ioniq. The plug in / plug out battery tray is being used in Japan, I think it’s a 10 min swap over but the number of packs that they have to keep ready to swap must be quite large! Paul De Tourtoulon
Yes but that's a 60.000€ car, look at the time to charge a Zoe or fiat 500, especially on the French autoroutes, some you pay by the minute even though you car won't take the surer charge. The battery system that I suggested would also get rid of most of the guarantee problems and recycling.
i12fly
An easily replaceable/ replacement battery sounds brilliant, especially to the battery thief. I think insurance would not go through the roof, it would blow the roof off! ...And any electronic system to protect it would soon be hacked, there is alot of money involved. 😳

Frank Skilbeck
New IC and EV prices up so 2nd hand prices up too. But just showing you can get a reasonably priced nearly new EV, and still had the balance of the 8year battery warrenty and RAC roadside support, looking on autotrader a similar age and mileage IC Corsa is around £16,000. Previous car was a 2010 i20, 65,000 miles on it's 3rd clutch and AC needed a new compressor, she's looking forward to the preconditioning in winter on her early morning starts.

Drop in price shows nobody really interested in basic electric cars . Just the rich buying top range stuff😉 Complete nonsense. Secondhand EV prices dropping from the crazy levels they were during and immediately after Covid supply chain issues was always going to happen, and it finally happened around 6-9 months ago. Yes, these cars have depreciated slightly more than their ICE equivalent at this point, but that is also in part to do with the aggressive (new vehicle) price cuts being implemented by Tesla and some of the new Chinese manufacturers like BYD. That will only continue as new EV volumes go up and manufacturing costs continue to fall. I have been monitoring used values closely for the last three months since we decided to change one car, and values have definitely stabilised now. We have a large local independent used EV specialist (Powerlease) nearby, and talking to them (and evidenced by the turnover on their website) they are having no problem selling used 2-3 year old “Everyman” EVs from the likes of MG, Kia, Hyundai, Renault and Nissan. This is because these are now very compelling cars for people like us who need a med-short range runabout for use as a second car and won’t be doing regular long journeys that require public charging.

Given our situation I will not buy another car without a plug again, it would be crazy to do so given our solar generation available. This was just an either/or decision, and we decided to swap the big car and buy the PHEV first because the right car came up at the right price elsewhere. We will still swap the Jazz for a Leaf or something similar sometime next year when the spring hits and our excess solar generation ramps up again to charge it with. Waiting a bit should also give us a few additional options used at a similar £15k price point (eg the MG4).
