john davidson 1
With a few mates I usually have a walk every Thursday, and coming up to Christmas we have a shortish walk ending at a hotel or restaurant for lunch. Anyway talk around the table yesterday touched on dreams. I was amazed that my friends all had dreams like me about work situations , we are are all retired 16 years or more so how is this, the dreams create quite stressfull scenarios , and are quite realistic, we were all in jobs, although very different, were sometimes using hard decisions and conflict of opinions. Is this a mild form of flashbacks or PTSD? Another office colleague I spoke to today says he does not have them. I would be interested in how many of you are affected similarly
Richard Acland
I spent 22 years in the Army. I finished my service in 1988. after that I had a few different jobs in the world of engineering. I retired eleven years ago. I have quite vivid dreams but they all involve my Army service. I rarely have a dream about anything I did before, or after that period of my life. Edited December 23, 2022 by Richard Acland
Don Fry
I did a lot of sub aqua diving, open water and in caves when I was a kid. The cave diving gives one claustrophobic dream occasionally, But my time as a police officer left a lot of memory boxes that are kept shut, and I’m damaged. GrumpyGnome
Retired a few years ago. Not a single dream about work; just a few thoughts about the job; few more about the people (many many more about some.... ☺️)
kc
I was expecting you to tell us about the super scale model plane you were hoping to build or your perfect display of aerobatics or even the most perfect woman you have met and married........but it's just about WORK! Paul De Tourtoulon
20 Years running my own model shop that I sold in 2009 and I still get nightmares associated with it, mainly after ordering 20.000€ + of stock in September for Christmas only hoping that I will sell it, you can never tell what you can sell or pay for especially with bouncing checks ! Ace
Don't know if its healthy or repressive but having retired 3 yrs ago I can't recall any dreams of past experiences good or bad and that includes several tours of NI and a few other interesting places 😉 It's as though the boxes get filed, then move on and I can't think of one person from my past I am still in contact with, excluding family and current circle of friends. Only dreams are looking forwards which sometimes stray into fantasies.
David Ashby - Moderator
Yes, I can relate top that John. My first job/career lasted from when I was 16 right up to 43 years old. So it very much moulded me but delivered (looking back) ridiculously stressful times that eventually damaged my health. No biggie, I'm fine now, but first job scenarios still crop up during sleep. leccyflyer
Not retired yet, but in common with quite a few folks I had the usual vivid exam anxiety dreams for decades after my last exam, though I haven't had one of those for ages. Graham Bowers
I'm almost 9 years retired and never dream about work. My job was demanding but fulfilling and very interesting. However, as in much of industry, management had whittled it down so less people did more work.

Engine Doctor
I'm retired for over 25 years now and only recently stopped having dreams about work, Not surprising really as being in the LFB most of my working life it was like an alternative family , a way of life and not just a job . Still miss the banter and mickey taking .
