Skippers Walker
Has anyone used either or both of theseΒ adhesives and is there really any difference in efficacy please? I will beΒ covering a large model with lots of sheet surfaces withΒ Oratex. Thanks SW
Andy Gates
I have used cover grip but only for film on film joints or over epoxy / painted / fuel proofed / metal areas. Β For me, large sheeted areas of covering are heat shrunk with a gun and pressed down while still hot with a microfibre cloth to ensure adhesion.
Skippers Walker
Thanks for responding Andy. I have used the standard Oracover "brushΒ on" adhesive on sheeted areas in the past.Β It is quite expensive now and the Delux Covergrip comes in at a more competitive price compared to the specific Oratex Hotmelt liquid. Just fishing for comments from modellers usage experiences before possibly buying one or the other products. Thanks again SW
Don Fry
I would be surprised if they were not the same plastic, a variant of ethylene vinyl acetateΒ glue. The likes of Oracover and De Luxe donβt develop adhesives, theyΒ buy 200 litre drums in,Β and repackage. We are small time users, book binding, interlinings of shoes, clothes use tanker-loads Β
Skippers Walker
Very reassuring Don. I had my suspicions that the adhesives are much the same. Β Clearly the marketing jargon may lead folk like me to buy a specific bottle/can to match the covering material being used. Thanks for replying to my query Β SW
Nick Somerville
This stuff works very well for iron on fabrics. Reasonably price too. Β Β 2

John Lee
I use Balsaloc, still available from Solarfilm. Skippers Walker
Suggestions coming thick n'fast now. Thank you John. I've only beenΒ using modern films quite recently after years and years of Silk/Tissue and Dope! Much to ponder over. Jason Channing
If your using Oratex then the hotmelt works by far the best, too damn well at times, if its filmΒ the balsaloc works well.Β

Martin McIntosh
Whatever you do, do not touch Covergrip. Tried it on my TN Concorde because of the intricate shapes and it virtually ruined the finish.
Skippers Walker
Thanks for the helpful information Martin. I have a huge surface to cover so it's important that I don't take any risks with the process. I am about to complete a very long build of the Vintage KK Falcon (8 ft span). Andy Stephenson
Covergrip is quite thick and blobby, it really needs to be thinned otherwise the blobs will show through the covering.
Martin McIntosh
Just as Andy says, but I was not to know that at the time and brushed it on neat. Only tried it because there were concave parts.
