Before you install Windows 10,do yourselves a favour and carefully read what thes two sites have to say about what Microsoft are upto with Windows 10. I, for one will NOT be installing software that allows my personal data, passwords and bank details etc to be looked at, copied or sold at any time!!!

Advert

Well I have reverted to Windows 7 !! After stabilising the screen I had no wireless connection, no sound and the 10 screen apps? just flicked off and on when triggered. I couldn't get it to find my router at all and after a search on SWMBO`S I Pad found plenty of others with the same problem ! And no solution ! So will wait a bit for bugs to be sorted. At least the reversion to 7 got the laptop working normally again. Colin

I've upgraded to W10. First time the upgrade went OK but whilst running , it had a W10 update ,and when rebooted ,would not run. Kept going to a W10 repair mode which couldn't repair the problem. Finally took an advanced option and reverted back to W7.

After a day I upgraded again to W10 and up to now everything seems to be working OK. The only program that wouldn't run was Seagate dashboard. So I uninstalled it , and i'll wait for an update.

So for me , I was able to update to W10 a second time after I previously restored W7.

Spoke too soon.W10 had updates ready, but wouldn't restart correctly after restart. No auto recovery or restore point previously set would correct the error. So now have gone back to W7, and will be staying with it, even though I liked W10.

Hi All,

I've upgraded my tablet to w10 straight forward. However, I am now finding typing in this field ok until you get to the bottom of the box it does not scroll down to allow me to continue typing. Anyone else found this or is just me not sussed it yet. Oh and when I press the return button it goes to the start and not the next line.

Regards

Robert

Thank's for getting back Cymaz,

I just thought I'd try it out on my tablet which does not have loads saved on it, I will certainly wait for a while for my main PC.

What I have used so far I do like except for the above issue.

Thank's Ken, I'll try that when I use it again.

Regards

Robert

I am a revertee back to Win 7 .

Thought I would give it a go yesterday on my spare Asus Netbook running Win7 starter as WIn 10 would give me a Win10 Home which is a bit of an upgrade . Took about 4-5 hours to finish

The Windows10 driver installed by the upgrade doesn't seem compatible with the graphics chip , causing lower than native resolution which would not adjust higher .so screen res incorrect with the attendant viewing issues

Getting late , getting tired, downloaded win 7 drivers from Asus site - no Win10 drivers listed ( I think I ought to have tried Win 8.1 drivers ) and a lot of looping later , res ok but shutting down shortly after loading up.

Very tired by now , managed to boot into safe mode ( shift F8 ) and used the revert to previous version option, cant be fussed to try Win8.1 drivers , should have worked straight off

As others have said , wait - I usually do but on this occasion I gave it a try .

I have just got windows 10 free .nobody is asking for money . my son says it;s only for a year then you have to buy it .but having said that they did;nt say anything just that it's free . up to now i am well pleased with it .nerd

The upgrade to Windows 10 is free for the first year. As long as you upgrade within the year then there won't be any charge.

If you decide to upgrade from 7 or 8 after the year is up then you will have to buy it - unless Microsoft change their minds before then.

Windows 10 is already available to buy, for instance for anybody who doesn't qualify for the free upgrade, or is building a new PC.

I like Windows 10 those rotten charm things have gone, but I reverted back to W8.1 The reason is my machine installed 3 updates this morning. They were third party applications (presumable via Microsoft) that I neither wanted or needed. One app even set itself up as the default program for browsing security. The cynic in me has led me to suppose this is why W10 is free they can sell update space and delver junk apps, just like the Postie delivers junk mail and I don't know if it can be stopped. Until this is fixed or my machine crashes and burns I will not take up W10.

Of course it can be stopped - auto updates can be turned off entirely. The OS doesn't install random applications I'm afraid, it must be something you had on there previously. It's still just as easy to take off things that are on there in add / remove programs.

Ken - I am using Mozilla firefox exactly at this moment ( from my company laptop where I have it installed since a month. - yes - not much going on this week ) and I do not particularly like it. I didn't find a way to stop the burning fox to offer me to save passwords - especially annoying if you go on bank web sites where you have to use a digipass or secure key or whatever you call them. Also I am not happy with the bookmarks - much clearer in explorer or chrome.

VA, no burning fox fan department

Vecchio, try clicking on the three bar gate on the top right of the menu bar, select Options - Security and clear the 'remember passwords' checkbox.

I think I'll be sticking with Win7, I'm not planning on robbing any banks or downloading porn but I still don't like the idea of Microshaft digging through my life and selling on the details.

Due to a twitchy finger I started my upgrade from 8.1 unintentionally. Oops. So far it looks like the best mistake I ever made smiley.

I did turn off Cortana during the initial setup (because I don't want/need it and that's where the privacy issues are) and I was already using Firefox which was up to date. All Firefox settings carried over fine so I haven't even bothered with Edge. Everything else just seems to work too.

Very happy so far.

My installation seemed to go well but I have now discovered my DVD drive won't recognise DVDs. The new windows DVD player flashes a disk symbol a few times when a disk is inserted but then does nothing and stays on the insert disk screen. Similarly I have tried VLC, which I have used for years, again rejects disk and asks to insert disk and loops through both options every time I put in a disk. Have set autoplay to both windows DVD player and vlc and tried each, still same result. Device manager says DVD drive working and I can save movie files to a data disk in the same drive and then play them using vlc. Any ideas anybody?

Neil, it appears to be a common problem with some DVD/Graphics hardware as well as Flash player. Before I removed W10 my HP laptop would not play any youtube or similar video, sound but no picture. Having gone back to W8.1 all is working well. A visit to the Microsoft web-site will give some fixes as will a general search of the web, I could not find a fix for my problem.
