EarlyBird
Added some scrap 1/16" ply doublers to the front face of F4. on the back face the grabber plate limits what can be done. I thought the formers were ready but I forgot to drill out for the ventilation slots. I also chamfered the bottom of F2 and filed where necessary for a good fit. Then F2 glued in place. and F3 ready with the slot cut. Steve

I now have three unfinished, including this one, what happens with me is when a problem crops up during the build and there is no obvious solution the last thing I should do is start another model. Before I start anything else I must finish this then Rhapsody then the x-RES but as you know Destiny is on the way and I have also ordered Peggy Sue 2 cut parts. I must be crazy. ? I am cutting and gluing parts for this one. F4 had me concerned so I have added ply doublers front and back along with gussets just to make sure. Just waiting for Gorilla PU glue to dry then F4 will be glued to the fuselage side, F2, F3 and F5 are done. ? Steve
kc
It doesn't matter if the models are unfinished - it's a hobby, enjoy yourself! The thing is the excitement of starting a new model which is going to be the best ever.........
Peter Miller
Half the enjoyment IS solving the problems. Perhaps it is because on my approach to solving problems instead of giving up and going to something else that I get regular phone calls from members of the club asking me to solve their problems. EarlyBird
Thanks Guys. Plodding on then. Test fit. and glued. Went together nicely ? Onto the fuselage jig tomorrow, it will be dry by then. Steve
EarlyBird
Next morning and it's in the jig. and it's obviously dark. Marked the centre lines on the bottom of the formers and adjusted the three right hand pairs of brackets making the marks match with the grid centre line. Next cut the cross pieces and pull the back together, using the plan to measure and cut the pieces in pairs for top and bottom. EarlyBird
Cross pieces in dried and turned over to add a couple of gussets this morning. I waited for a bit of daylight but obviously a bit blurry eyed still. ? There is a bit of detail at the front and back to sort out as I have strayed from the plan. I have decided to work on the motor mount battery tray next. Steve
EarlyBird
I changed my mind. Ply mounting plate made and glued. Steve
EarlyBird
?☹️ Checking tailplane alignment. The fuselage is 4mm off line and the tailplane is at an angle. ? I am deciding what to do, apart from leave it as it is which is not an option. I am thinking that fitting the ply mounting plate has pulled it out of line as I am certain it was in line before that. Cut one side of the plate off from the fuselage and glue back on. The right hand side, looking at the picture above, I think. Razor saw to hand and here we go. Peter Miller
Don't worry!!! Just look at my "Insanity" So long as they are lined up to the airflow and datum line it will work well

EarlyBird
Sorry Peter I could not wait.? Cut and glued back together. Not perfect is just not good enough ? Wait four hours for the Gorilla PU glue to dry and we will then know. Steve

Nick Cripps
Yep, I'd do the same, Steve. It's also worth putting the wing in place and checking that the tailplane aligns when viewed from the front/rear.

EarlyBird
More work on the tail. More bits added the hardest part being the tailplane board making sure it's level front to back and side to side, lots of trial fits followed by adjustments. I checked the plan and the tailplane is parallel to the cabin floor so I used my cheap and not very accurate level and set the cabin floor level then keeping the spirit level the same way around worked on the tail checking that nothing moved. Once happy glued it in. Test fit the tailplane which was good enough so that at the assembly stage there will be enough play to make a good fit. Onto the top adding the fin mount. Old technology in use in the form of a string for the centre line to work to, no lasers here. Time to move on to the front. Steve
EarlyBird
and at the front the basic battery box is being trial fitted. Holes for the battery straps to cut then glue together. Steve
EarlyBird
Testing how the cowl will fit and what to adjust. That looks fine. The engine bearers had built in down thrust so I added guide rails to the outside of the 'coffin' that will sit on the formers. Test fitting as far back as it will go but will slide forward on the rails for a good fit to the nose ring. The plan says 2 degrees of down thrust and side thrust so I have built that in, I always do as I am told ? The motor I have gone for is a 3536, as advised earlier on the basis that too little power is the worst case, which will have ample power on 3S with the option of propping down if too much. This decision has resulted in the motor mount being 6 mm forward of the engine mount, which has got me thinking, I have left the sides of the 'coffin' so that the smaller motor can be fitted on a new mount further forward to fit the cowl. I like plenty of options the only downside being the length of time it takes me to make a decision. Next fit the wing so that the grabber plate can be fitted and then the wing can be finished. The flight line beckons ? Steve
kc
If you made that engine bulkhead full width then you could put screws in for a 'keyhole' mounted cowl. Then the cowl could be removed and altered if you should need to change engine.
EarlyBird
Thanks kc, I have not made a final decision on the cowl but the plan shows a fixed bottom with a removable top that could be made part of the battery hatch. ? Grabber plate made to fit and glued while fitted to the fuselage. dried overnight. which leaves a couple of gussets to fit inside then LE and top sheeting to fit.
