Ron Gray
8 hours ago, Peter Jenkins said: Yes, but Toto doesn't have your experience That’s exactly my point, get someone with experience to fly the model after he’s set it up as per my post, or GG’s above. All this faffing about with incident meters / inclinometers is, at this stage of Toto’s flying career is completely OTT. Let’s face it, he could spend hours fiddling around with his dangle meter and get it all beautifully setup, give the model to someone with experience who then makes changes to suit the way the model is flying in the air, not on the desk. There is nothing to stop Toto doing all the things you’ve mentioned later once he’s got several flights under his belt. leccyflyer
Agree completely and there's no need for Toto to be making calculations to derive control throws in degrees, versus the mm given in the manual, The only circumstance where such a calculation might be required would be if he was learning to fly with one of those Parkzone powered gliders, in which case he'd really want the result in radians, rather than degrees anyway.......
GrumpyGnome
@toto a flight mode can be more subtle than multiple rates, e.g. a landing mode could have different rates, expo, trims, for specific surfaces, and a different ic idle to a flying mode. All from one switch. As I said, not a consideration for this stage of your journey. GG
toto
Thanks Grumpy ..... just curious. You hear all these terms and wonder what the differences are. Broadens the understanding. Cheers Toto

Suncream and water a must Factor 50+ sunprotecion is so important as is a wide brimmed hat. A full day's flying even in fairly overcast conditions during peak summer will still lead to a big dose of UV. The water thin clear spray types work very well and are not messy in the least and don't leave white marks on surfaces where one might have touched something with a bit of the substance on one's fingers. Had a BCC removed from the side of my face a few years ago caused by years of outdoor time in full sun and not paying attention to protection. Don't ignore the risks - many do and pay the price with getting far worse problems that can't be fixed with a short outpatients appointment. We make loads of fuss over injury from our models' props etc and other safety issues, but many take a very cavalier stance on sun protection. I'd like to see the BMFA have a campaign to highlight the dangers. PLEASE DON'T IGNORE IT CHAPS, THE PROBLEMS AND RISKS ARE REAL. toto
G'day considering an aussie bushman hat myself ..... big wide brim covering the front and the back of the neck. Using a skip hat lately but my neck cops it with the sun. Seriously considering it now. Toto
Colin Carpenter
Had 2 BCC removed from left ear. Worn a brimmed hat for last 34 years and detest sun. I put them down to playing on 50’s bomb sites with calamine lotion only applied after being burnt ! Mum had never heard of elf and safety !😂😂😂😂Wear a brimmed hat chaps ! Toto Speaking of Aussies, one of the clinicians who sorted out my problem was an Aussie and she said that down under, BCCs were very common indeed, especially on bald headed men who need to pay particular attention to skin protection. Easy to joke about but TBH it's something that needs to be taken far more seriously.
aidan mcatamney
Just leaving the flying field after having two summer evening flights with my fourstroke powered Piper Cherokee. This model is very reminiscent to the full scale Piper Cherokee aircraft that stared in the James Bond film "Goldfinger"
toto
Hi Cuban8. I am thinning out on top a bit not helped by the fact that my hairstyle is a " wash and go " ..... cut very short so there is no styling involved at all. I always buy a straw cowboy hat when on holiday abroad as it doesn't take much to make yourself ill if you don't protect yourself. Normally I would never had dreamed of putting myself up for the potential comments and even ridicule ..... you know ..... John Wayne..... Roy Rogers etc etc ...... I'm really too long in the tooth to give a hoot now. Roy Rogers it is ( or as mentioned before ..... Sandra ....... on a Saturday night ). An order going in shortly. toto
And as usual Aidan ..... a fine looking model. ..... and an absolute cracker of an evening by the looks of it. My little circlips arrived today in order to re-attach the wheel to my Supercub so she should be ready to return to service when I get back my holidays in a couple of weeks. Here is to many more similar evenings for you. Cheers Toto
aidan mcatamney
Thanks Toto. It's hard to beat the long summer nights. Glad to hear your circlips arrived for the Super Cub wheel. She will be back in the air in a short space of time and talking about hats I have some collection at home but no cowboy hats . So I may just get myself a stetson and pretend I'm flying at Monument Valley where a lot of "The Searchers" was filmed. I can just see John Wayne coming towards me and muttering the words, "This Town Ain't Big Enough For The Both Of Us".
Ron Gray
Tilley hat for me, as per my avatar, that’s how people spot me on the flight lines!
toto
The back of my neck is a bit tight from the sun at the weekend. I had my cap on and rotated it from time to time but when flying the skip had to be to the front as the sun just .... yawnsssssss it way right over us all day .... right in your eyes ... mostly in your peripheral vision but none the less ..... in the way. Maybe I should have got a fez Ron.... more inkeeping with my avatar and easier to wear .... just like that ..... By the way ...... I did think of it just to get the humour going on the pitch .... but was a bit worried that some may think I was being serious. Never mind Toto

GrumpyGnome
Best keep a debit card there as well.... cash is truly dying (as predicted in the 70s, 80s, 90s, norties, etc. etc. Our son has hadan emergency tenner in his car since he got it 5 years ago..... he can't imagine paying using it for any emergency. Wonder if beggars, street performers, and buskers have card machines? Loads of those in York....

Whenever you take your A Certificate test and you pass with flying colours all being well. When you arrive home later that evening, your wife might be suprised and say, "Toto, how did you manage that"? Your reply might be "Oh my good woman, Just Like That"
