Philip Lewis 3
You can probably push these on with either nimble finger nails or a couple of flat head screwdrivers, top tip though, get a small clear plastic bag and push it on with the axle and e clip inside the bag, that way if it pings off it will still be in the bag and won't fly away to where all the small items disappear to. Outrunner
I just use some pointed pliers to fit e-clips, hold it in the groove with your finger and pop on with the pliers. PL3 tip above is a useful trick.
Outrunner
Your nice circlip pliers will fit and remove good old fashioned cirlips like these, internal and external versions. Edited June 26, 2024 by Outrunner Typo
GrumpyGnome
A socket (as used with a ratchet) of the right size is good to push them on with - gets even pressure all round. And deffo do it in a plastic bag as they are fine escapologists!
john stones 1 - Moderator
Big hammers what you need. 😉
toto
Now ...... the hammer ..... that's my tool .... very subtle .... almost as subtle as the Aeroscout I just bought to take on holiday. I need something and whilst no disrespect to the Aeroscout .... something I could fly in a big field ( and there is one ) that I can play about with. I think I have the ideal batteries for it as well ..... as bought for my gliders ..... which haven't seen the light of day as yet. Holidays sorted Toto Edited June 26, 2024 by toto
GrumpyGnome
I'm pretty sure you said a few days ago.... "no more models"......
toto
I'm pretty sure as well.....but ..... I needed something to take on holiday that I could fly in a sort of sensible area that wouldn't be too risky. There is a field ... albeit a public field that see's no real traffic that will easily take the Aeroscout. I already have the 3S 2200 battery packs .... which is all you need to fly as its an Artf version ... complete with a basic transmitter ..... how could I resist ..... Frank Day
The multi pack/head circlip pliers are ok starters but they can be a little wobbly in use and the pins quite thick. I picked up a Blue Point/spot set for a good price I also use them for the car etc. Worth a look https://www.amazon.co.uk/Blue-Spot-8702-Circlip-Pieces/dp/B0751KDT3V/ref=asc_df_B0751KDT3V/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=697365262289&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=16185319749415978973&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9044929&hvtargid=pla-423204258141&psc=1&mcid=e3c58e363c4032bfaa3a565aebf6965c&th=1&psc=1&gad_source=1 Edited June 27, 2024 by Frank Day insanity
toto
Hi Frank .... its actually e clip pliers I need. I bought circlip pliers by mistake. Thanks anyway though Toto
toto
This is nail biting stuff ....... the Aeroscout has been dispatched and I can't get anywhere near the shed to charge the 3S 2200 mah batteries. I'm still faffing around with this wedding speech. I thought I had it in the bag .... but no ..... desperate to make sure that I say enough but not too much. Also ..... need 5o watch the humour as well ..... too many political landmines that I could tread on. ...... its not a long speech either but you want it right ..... and you want it to flow. So ..... I may get a chance on batteries tomorrow night if I get things sorted on the speech tonight. ..... if not ...... its Sunday .... Just been fed and its time to hit the laptop again and get this bad boy over and done with. Wish me luck. Toto
toto
Made it ..... speech sorted .... a bit happier with that now .... so ..... in the shed and charging 6 x 3S 2200 mah battery packs on these .... and .... Lets see if I actually get to fly the Aero Scout ............ dependant on whether the field turns out to be big enough ..... I'm pretty sure it is from memory but a thorough risk assessment on the day will determine that. ...... weather dependant as well of course. I'm meant to be travelling up on Monday and coming home Saturday ..... but .... may get away late Sunday afternoon to enable us to have the full day on Monday at the Caravan. My son and his fiance are visiting on Tuesday and Mumsie is visiting either Wednesday or Thursday ........... so as it stands ..... I may get about 3 days potential flying activities with a total of 6 fully charged batteries which can give maybe an average of 12 minutes. I think I'll take one charger with me just in case things are going good and I need to recharge any. ..... Doubt it but you never know your luck. The Aero scout was dispatched today so may arrive tomorrow or Saturday ..... when I'm out. However, whenever it comes, if I get the chance .... I'll bung a couple of photo's up. cheers for now ..... My mate John Smith is calling me ...... toto
GrumpyGnome
A clubmate has,an Aeroscout. Apart from the irritating noise, it's great!
toto
Hi Grumpy, There is something else irritating about it ....... it has an IC3 ( Spektrum ) connector and only 3 of my 6 batteries have that .... my Spektrum Smart batteries ...... the rest have XT 60 connections and I don't have a conversion adaptor to make them fit. ............ I'm down to 3 batteries. Nothing like keeping it in the family. Any other combination I could have probably coped with. There is no way that they would arrive on time if I tried to order them up so I will go with 3 and take the Spektrum Smart charger with me. I thought I had every connector adaptor under the sun as well .... but apparently not the case. In saying that ...... if I do get the chance to get flying with it, 3 flights in any one day will probably be enough given the decent flying times that they give. Standardisation is a great thing ..... but it will never happen. There is too much money to be made in the accessories etc. grumble over toto
GrumpyGnome
IC3.... easily cured with a wire cutters. Then you can escape the shackles, and edicts, of Horizon Hobby, and join the world of choice and flexibility... 🙂
Simon Chaddock
Not happy with Spektrum Smart batteries and plugs. It smacks of specifically designing unique for commercial reasons. The XT range of 3 connectors and JST-HX balance plugs have become pretty universal on ordinary LiPo batteries.
Peter Jenkins
I prefer bare wire without connectors so I can solder on my own, 4 mm bullets, and make them compatible with the rest of my batteries and, of course, the charger. I do make an exception for EC3 Connectors.

Yup, it's part of locking you in, then steadily increasing the prices, add some clever marketing and bingo.... profits! Like Peter, I prefer bare wires on new LiPos. I'll add my own bullets; hate Deans connectors, like XTs but find them difficult to solder well - my poor technique!
leccyflyer
Toto - adaptors are a bad thing, to be avoided if at all possible. They just create an additional point of failure. I'm another one who eschews the various plastic shrouded connectors that manufacturers attempt to pass off as the next best standard. The 4mm bullet connector combines all of the necessary attributes of a good connecter - slim, light, capable of carrying high currents, easy to solder, easy to make up additional leads, not bulky -essentially similar in dimensions to the wire it is inserted in and flexible in use. I especially avoid the unnecessarily complex Spektrum "Smart" battery connections, as I'd far rather be responsible for my own battery management. The good old 4mm bullet connector has seen off many "new fangled but ultimately flawed" plastic space-wasting designs and allows for standardisation across quite a wide range of battery sizes. For very small set ups 2mm bulletconnectors can be used - though for those I do use JST plugs -and I've recently started to use 6mm bullets for my largest packs, some of which are using 10AWG and even 8AWG wire.
