Daren Cogdon
So, I've been toying with this idea for a wee while, so I laid a couple of templates onto the Takeshi plans for a look.... (That's a full-sized FT Spitfire fin and stabiliser - so it might be OK!)

SIMON CRAGG
17 hours ago, Nigel Heather said: Nice - where did you get the plans for this - or is it your own design? The original Thunderbob was a 70cm Depron lightweight model. http://rc-plans.com/catalog/item432.html I increased the plan to 1100mm wingspan, and constructed it out of 5 and 10mm foamboard from Amazon.(£25 for 5 sheets delivered). All edges shaped, filled and rubbed down. Used a 240v and 3s Lipo powered glue gun throughout. It was painted by hand in Farrow and Ball green emulsion I got from the local dump (where most of my modelling paint comes from). One coat of hand applied, water based satin polyurethane varnish (again from the dump). The Ailerons are controlled by two new mg 17g servos, with plastic spoons cut in half and painted black to provide suitable covers. Control surfaces are hinged at the top only by wide reinforced tape. 4s powered, weight circa Lb4. It could be constructed in a week, but as I was enjoying it so much.............took a month!
Daren Cogdon
This is where I found it - https://jivaro-models.org/thunderbob/page_thunderbob.html#gsc.tab=0 I did have a photo on my old laptop showing about a dozen of these things, and some of them done up to look like other WW2 warbirds (including Yaks and what I think was a Fiat G-50). SIMON CRAGG
Due to our patch resembling a lake, I have only managed a couple of test fights so far. Absolutely no vices at all, and for once no trim needed. Early days, but its definitely a keeper. I get more enjoyment out of models like this, than my £350 jets which spend most of their time in the hanger!
Daren Cogdon
Nice. I really need to pull my finger out and build mine!
Ron Gray
Getting there, I need to have it built by the end of the weekend! Not too sure about the nose, I know that it’s a ‘cartoon’ replica but I could probably have put a bit of an inwards curve on it. Still, it’s only the prototype so I’ll leave that until I’ve seen how well or bad it flies!
leccyflyer
Looking good Ron - I think you're right about the nose though -it's such a part of the Mossie shape that it does need to be a wee bit more pointy. Looking forward to seeing her fly. Those laser cut leaves on the floor of your workshop are very well done - very realistic. 😉

Ron Gray
I can always cut the nose off and 3D print a better one

Futura57
I'm planning on making one of these for my granddaughter when the materials eventually arrive. It won't fly. It'll just be a compact(ed) static model 🤣 P.s. I'm talking real snow here 😉 Edited November 24, 2023 by Futura57
leccyflyer
The nose of the Mossie brings the Hawker Headbutt to mind.
