  1. Late one night, a burglar broke into a house he thought was empty. He tiptoed through the living room but suddenly he froze in his tracks when he heard a loud voice say: "Jesus is watching you!" Silence returned to the house, so the burglar crept forward again. "Jesus is watching you," the voice boomed again. The burglar stopped dead again. He was frightened. Frantically, he looked all around. In a dark corner, he spotted a bird cage and in the cage was a parrot. He asked the parrot: "Was that you who said Jesus is watching me?" "Yes", said the parrot. The burglar breathed a sigh of relief, and asked the parrot: "What's your name?" "Moses," said the bird. "That's a dumb name for a parrot," sneered the burglar. "What idiot named you Moses?" The parrot said, "The same idiot who named the Rottweiler Jesus."

  5. My one is green canvas and has wing mirrors plus a horn for when shopping at Lidl. However mine hasn't got the fancy whitewall tyres hence why I bought the last pair of plain black ones from Amazon. TBH I had already nicked the wheels off the cart hence why I had to buy replacements before I went out shopping again. Anyway I think I'm due an upgrade soon so have been mulling over this baby I am rather taken with the front castor (or is that now frowned upon because they may leave a brown sticky mess?) wheels as they may help when negotiating the tight bends in the vegetable aisle and will allow a tight turn in at the cashier desks (when one becomes vacant I can get in there before the other old gits).

  6. Hi Milnee. That's a Morley Hughes 300. I used to have one many years ago but I stupidly sold it and I'd love to have another but you are a bit too far away from me. Your model looks in pretty good shape and deserves to fly again so hopefully it will find a good home.

  7. Evening all! Behind the top 3 there's a cluster of us on 135 to 121 points before a slight gap and four more scoring 116 to 103. I can only assume Kev didn't manage to pick a team in time for today's race... 😕 Next up, in a week's time, is Saudi Arabia. And again, we're a day ahead of normality with Qualifying at 5pm (UK-time) on Friday, and the race at 5pm on Saturday.

  9. I know some people who might well be interested. I've got quite a few old helis - a Morley Bell47 and a 2c, several MicroMold Larks and a couple of Schluters. There are people out there looking for them, and that one looks to be in good condition for its age. Let me check around, and I'll get back to you...

  10. Hi, I have inherited an old radio controlled helicopter. I don't have any particular interest in flying it. Is it worth anything to anybody? It looks very different to what people are flying these days. There are some photos of it, plus one of it in flight - I assume that the helicopter is from the 1970's. There's a box with it - I think it is some kind of starter motor. I'm in Southampton.

  11. An underside view of what is virtually the complete airframe showing the exhaust fairing and the substantial battery hatch. All the leads run into the battery hatch. The 1300mAh 4s will be paced right up against the front bulkhead for CofG reasons. There will also be a Lemon 'gyro' Rx to go in so a suitable platform will have to be built for it. And all out of Depron of course!

  13. Started my crank/crank pin turning this afternoon. Your Vee block gave me the inspiration, and it has worked well, albeit nowhere near the elegance, but I'm working with limited facilities (my best excuse).

  14. I wrote to my MP at the end of last year about some of the justifications for remote ID in CAP 2610 and he contacted the DfT and Home Office. The following are from the response from the Secretary of State for Transport. Re the 558 reports, I was asking for a breakdown by means of detection and how many led to prosecutions.

  15. I’ve used I use this system (cheap quick, good). I abrade the inside of the tube, so it is grease free. Use a longer set epoxy, mixed very carefully, fill the rod hole with epoxy, (a pin to push apply)and fill the masked threads (same pin). I did a test once. Built a test piece . Nothing fancy for units used in the test piece. When cured, hung a 50 kilo lump, no fails, no fails when I tried push pull shock loading. Got bored. Word of warning. Destroy the test piece. I saw it much later, a half finished rudder control arm. COO goes I. Finished it, installed it, and the penny dropped, why a half finished rudder rod. Chastened, made a new one.

  16. I watched the YouTube repeat and I have to say that I noted what I thought was frustration on the part of the BMFA representatives with much of the CAA's standpoint as regards 'conventional' R/C flying. Yes, we know that thankfully, we are able to carry on pretty much as usual, but to most model flyers and I suspect the BMFA itself, we all really don't get the rationale for lumping line of sight R/C flying in with the wider 'drone' regulations. Interesting that this appears to be driven by Government policy according to the CAA chaps (who were both modellers, apparently!). Security being a particular worry. This is where it seems to be going......it looks as if the best outcome for us, because of the wild dreams of the airspace becoming black with BLOS commercial drones (when this will be they never say) will be registered flying sites that can be avoided by other vehicles using 'our' airspace. What use or good the registration scheme has been so far other than a money spinner, was not made clear. The 'benefits' of remote ID for model aircraft (especially when flown from a 'registered' site) as mentioned by the CAA chaps, seemed very tenuous and I got the impression that even they thought it was daft. So some hope for common sense after all. BTW I actually saw a fair sized commercial drone hovering over an industrial area in Colchester this week - I guess doing survey work. A rare bird indeed!

  18. Hi Grumpy, You would certainly think so. Sometimes ... if it weren't for bad luck ..... I'd have no luck at all. I've become accustomed to it now and have almost learned to shrug it off. .... not much choice. Anytime I ever do the lottery ... which isn't often ....... I make a point of deliberately choosing 13 as one of my numbers. A little reversed psychology in the hope that it may just buck the trend. My brother used to say that if I fell into a bath of poo ..... I'd come out smelling of roses. It used to be the case maybe a few years ago but ..... boy .... how times have changed. There is always next weekend. I hope some of you guys have managed to get a bit stick time in. Cheers for now and thanks for sticking with me. Toto

  19. False alarm ...... Some mixed news. I went over on my ankle last night and I'm struggling to walk on it right now. My car is DSG ( automatic in old money ) but its my right ankle that has copped it. ...... result ..... no flying. I did get a message from my mentor telling me that it was raining anyway and did not look good so no huge deal. The good news however ...... I have secured my next Client for a contract in Cumbria ( Sellafield) which I start on Thursday .... remotely from home to start with anyway. So a mixed bag to report in today. Another week goes by ....... Toto

  26. So all assembled But I decided to modify it to have a nose support And this is the final dolly frame ready to try out on Sunday. All of the foam supports are removable and the brackets movable so it could be used for smaller models too.

  27. To calculate ribs at any point in a wing try this. Download a copy of Freecad CAD software. Takes a little while to learn the basics, but there are loads of vids on it & you do not have to learn everything. Draw the ribs at the root & tip, along with the holes & spar slots. Set them at the correct distance for wing half span & loft between the two. Cut the loft with planes at each rib & you will get a perfect cross section at each rib. I do have Alibre Atom which I paid for but I had spent some time with Freecad which is pretty easy & fun to learn whilst between TV programs.

  28. I'm a bit worried they are daily updates, but this project is keeping my tinkering spirit alive every day almost and getting obsessive much as my Lola build was. Made some significant progress this afternoon in as much as actually finishing the parts so i can move on to the Big Challenges ahead. Silver brazed the inlet stub to the cylinder that certainly blackened it! That was followed by soft soldering the transfer porting cover to the cylinder as well, and that added to the scruffy look.... I last silver brazed/soldered back at school for my GCSE in metalwork which I got a distinction in (and Art). Those were the days. The school was a bit off-the-wall in those days (60's) and there was an after school Club for all subjects, so I did metalwork where the game was to do anything outside of the curriculum, so we cast metal (!), brazed, and cut and made nice things. I really wanted to be a jeweler as a career, but my father was not so sure (he was an architect) so i did a heavy engineering apprenticeship instead. The crank case is all done, cylinder studs in and loctited and it all screws together! Amazing for me and my skill base. A few pics as ever, but I'm getting excited. 73T 91

  30. I've found they're fine up to at least 600mm and would probably work over even longer distances. I also use closed loop a lot and often use snake outer as guides for the wire so they can easily be replaced if necessary. Using the snake outers also means the route between servo and control surface horn doesn't need to be absolutely direct; it can be slightly curved to avoid obstacles.

  33. Just finished my new model. It is based on my 1984 designed Pee Tee Sportster Reduced in size and converted to electric power. I would now say don't reduce the size but built it to the full 54" span. Now all we want is some rain free days so we can get across the the flying field without being completely bogged down. Span is 48", Weight 2 lbs 1 oz. CG came out spot on. Same power train as The Ohmen.
