Well, that's about it ready for the fun part 'the painting !

Think I'd better install the radio gear first though. For some reason I always find that task slower and more fiddly than I expect, and I tend to put it off.

Excellent work Dave . Youve definitely inspired everyone .  Looking forward to the painting .

The thing is though , for those who havent done this before , remember that people at Dave's level of finishing skill , didnt start out like that .

I remember my first attempts at "weathering " . I got a sheet of paper from a ring binder notepad and sprayed a black aerosol through the holes to create "rivetts" .

Very pleased with myself at the time , and to be fair , it still looked good from 20ft .

The point is , try a bit and enjoy the journey .

The next one can always be better . Just keep pushing the boundaries .

The big advantage you chaps have is that the old hands are all keen to help .

No man left behind on my threads!

Started on the painting.... I'm using Vallejo model air paints and a cheap airbrush - only cos I have enough paints left over from a previous funfighter build and want to learn more. Tbh it's almost more trouble than its worth, seem to spend half the time unblocking, cleaning and adjusting to get consistent paint flow. The yellow for the rudder and nose underside doesn't really cover the grey primer (should have used white first for these areas), but I'll persevere as it's all good experience.

I know what you mean Dave . I got fed up with my airbrush blockages . Very fussy little Buxxer.

So I try to do as much without the airbrush as possible . Masks for aerosols etc .

I do find that the very cheap single action humbrol airbrush is much less fussy and if you are looking for just a soft edge or an exhaust stain or streak of dirt , then its very good . Can be run off a car tyre too for those that dont have a compressor .

The one you are using looks similar ?

If that is still hassle , then look at the car touch up guns which are much bigger but fine for our work . £11.99 on Amazon ! you will need the reduced shown in your picture . shopping?q=tbn:ANd9GcRw8PgYnLwcRup-hADtcqxFd-i-GwlwMyluRZeWT9lzmMmBXkw9SAXeG8_Ws0_AAyzr_ToNNlG3YUJe1E-TlPQXMUu32ypnjKh26liWZWq5yNXqBHY_W21iRQ&usqp=CAE

Ok, making progress now. Discovered that there's a little vent hole in the cap of the airbrush paint jar that was blocked.

Yellow done and Blue grey up the fuselage

then Violet Gray and Dark grey green for the wing, tailplane and tip if the fuz camo (RLM 74, 75,76). Great fun doing the camo and blotches. I'll let this lot dry and likely add some more next time

I was masking the wings and rear fuz to add some squadron marking stripes and heard a clunk as sometbing fell out.....

So the Tempest flyers can rest easy as Siegfried is now 'armless' !!

Subtle wing and fuz stripes added

The poor guy is obviously very nervous . He's coming apart at the seams .

It looks like he left a little deposit too,  further down the fuselage .

Now that is frightened ! Can't be helped in the circumstances, especially as he can probably still smell the blood from the

"earlier incident".

Probably lost it when he got legless.

Added the supplied insignia, and then produced some of my own using injet vinyl sticker paper ( and a new printer as the old one clogged up !). Some just in ppt, others scanned from internet images

Stared on a bit of weathering to simulatr oil stains and wear around the cowling and engine

Nice job on the home made stickers. I made water slide decals for mine and they don’t stick very well onto the Matt painted surface. I’ll do stickers next time! 👍

Made a start weathering the underside of the wings. I have a double action airbrush that should be ideal for the fine work around the panel lines, but I'm still struggling to get reliable paint flow and the frustration takes the enjoyment out of the process, so I've reverted to the chalk techniques shown by Richard and on Ron's great videos
