My latest pair of glasses cost nearly 7x what my first bike cost.  The bike was a 98cc Excelsior 98cc 2 speed, rigid frame, girder forks which set me back £35 back in 1956.  No idea how far I rode it as it didn't have a speedometer (not required for sub 100cc machines) but it was a lot.

I paid £15 plus a Lambretta (which I didn’t count as a bike but cost me a tenner) for my Triumph Terrier.  I spent rather more on parts restoring it around the turn of the Millennium but I still have it to this day.

I doubt my specs will do me for 53 years (and counting…)

You got done, my first lambretta was £5, as was my 350 panther ( ?)

I remember my dad saying when he was a lad, he and his mates were looking in the window of a motorbike shop at one priced at £5 and saying they'd never be able to afford that so they bought a second-hand moped for 7shillings and 6 (old) pence, that's 37 1/2 P in modern money.
