David Ashby - Moderator
Sad news, Brian Winch - RCM&E’s wizard of oz engine guru and much loved columnist passed away last Thursday. His monthly column, which ran for several decades, will be sorely missed and I know readers will join me in extending condolences to his family and friends around the world. paul d
Oh David that is such sad news, I was only thinking about him the other day. Rest well Brian.
Trevor
I've not flown i.c. for 60 years but I always found Brian's articles of interest. He will indeed be sadly missed. Trevor
Cuban8
Sad news indeed, particularly after him mentioning the loss of his dear wife, recently as well. One of the 'fixtures and fittings' of the hobby with a unique style - a difficult act to follow.
Tim Kearsley
As Trevor, I don't fly IC at all now, but I always found Brian's articles of interest. His depth and breadth of knowledge was staggering. Very sad. Tim.

Kevin Fairgrieve
As a mainly oily flyer Brian`s column was always a go to for me. A loss to his family and friends all over the world.
Pete B
Sorry to hear that news. What Brian didn't know about IC could have been written on a Post-it note. His legacy will be the many, many articles and 'how-to's' that have helped thousands of model flyers across the world. Condolences to his family and friends. RIP Brian Pete

Tony Richardson
Sad news indeed, my condolences to family and friends, RIP Brian your advice and knowledge on all things oily will be missed.
J D 8
I loved his stories of engine experiment's of yesteryear, like trying different oil's for lubrication. Cod liver oil was a good lubricant in high revving motors but the pong was enough to make everyone want to leave the field. R.I.P.
rowan clark
So very sad to hear, I have followed Brian and his WOO column avidly for over 30 years, always the first pages to be read on opening a new edition. Fair winds sir.
Don Fry
I had three nails in a bit of wood. It was the pattern for his onboard glow plug clip. But I no longer had the instructions in the magazine. After hours of wasting wire, I Emailed him. Instant clarification, wrapped in sharp wit. Quite depressing. Old Geezer
Such a sad loss - the Wizard was a one off - I always religiously read his monthly words of "Wizdom", even during my extended defection to the dark side. Vast experience leavened with common sense and humour - we're all going to miss him.
FlyinBrian
I communicated with Brian a few times about old engines, he was always helpful and patient. RIP Winchy, you will be missed.
Lindsay Todd
Very sad news indeed, I will certainly miss his contribution he had a skill in making the technical aspects easy to understand only possibly by someone with undeniable depth of experience and an enthusiasm for the subject matter that came across in his articles. my condolences to his family and friends. Manish Chandrayan
Looks like the folks Upstairs had some stubborn engines that needed taking care and they sent for Wizard of Oz. He will be missed here on Earth
Tomtom39
I will miss Brians wise words of advice. I had the pleasure to share some banter with him only a few weeks ago. Deepest condolences to his family.
Cuban8
I remember back in the late 80's that Brian recommended relatively unknown (to us) Taipan glow plugs as the remedy for all manner of engine ills, and purely on his sage advice, the relatively limited UK stock was totally sold out within a few weeks of his original article. They did work well. Difficult to think of something similar happening today in the modelling world.
