Paul Johnson 4
Well on the subject of Mosquitos. Right wing nacelle almost ready for vac forming. Just to let you know we are still on the job but we have a long way to go....

RICHARD WILLS
I was thinking that Murat . But I think we will wait a bit . The Mosquito is very complicated in the way we want to do it . To make it easier for you guys, trebles the work load, because it removes the need for planking , shortcuts the wing building and flaps , incorporates a space for sound system and pre-empts the undercarriage issue . The reason we are showing the development process is so that you can all see what is involved and how we overcome issues . Because of the time spent on this particular design , it cannot be a "one shot " sale in our usual style . This model has to have long term appeal . Consequently , every short cut for the modeller and every helpful detail (like the swift assembly at the field with only two connections ) will play a part . These kits are very much a labour of love , but sometimes it can feel like a bit of a chore, so I have to be careful that I dont get too far ahead as on 50p an hour 😬 I have to fit in the other factors of my life too ! Chris Walby
Hopefully with the Mosquito there will be plenty of versions to sell like the PR, fighter, fighter/bomber, bomber including night version, maritime, Tsetse and High Ball versions. Then once we all have one each of those there are the limited edition special operation versions and then the lastly the 4 blade version for carrier landings that Winkle Brown used. The never have too many Spitfires quote could be replaced with "have you got all the Mosquito versions"

Paul Johnson 4
Just wanted to add some photos I took whilst we were at RAF Hendon of bomber crew clothing, mainly for the webbing and oxygen mask colours.

RICHARD WILLS
Rons , got a 110 build to hurdle before he gets anywhere near a Mossie . Wolfie , feel free to plank if it makes you happy . If it looks like a starved horse , you're on your own 😛 And Paul , you can see why the Bomber crew didnt impress the ladies like the fighter boys can't you ? I think the Luftwaffe had it taped , plus . easy winner of the biggest pockets competition . You could get some bloody wine gums in there for sure !

Planked or foam core with veneer, I know which one has my money on being the heaviest 😉

payneib
Looking at the plan view of the Mozzy, the thought of making the outer panels removable, instead of splitting the whole wing (or detaching a one piece job), has crossed my mind. Would certainly make putting it together at the field a bit easier.
Chris Walby
I think Richard has it right for the size of the model as 3 piece wings need bracing/wing tubes, electrical connections etc for little gain + if the front fuselage is part of the wing then its minimal wiring for the tail section. My Tigercat has a three piece wing and fuselage with non detachable tail feathers and its a right pain as there are a load of wires to connect up and worst of all... the tail feathers take up a disproportional amount of space for transit or storage. IMO its a low stress area behind the TE on the fuselage for the joint and almost all of the electrictricky is housed in the wings and front fuselage. If I have understood his design correctly then Richard has fully exploited the benefits of strength and simplicity of the foam/veneer wing with very little impact on overall weight. The BH Mossie has detachable wings so needs a wing tube, fuselage fixings, battery to ESC leads, ESC throttle, aileron and flap servo connects on each side that need to be connected every time its assembled or packed away. Its not like the the Mossie has a fuselage that protrudes beyond the nacelles anyway + all of the heavy bits are located in one section. RICHARD WILLS
For those that havent seen the foam board experimental prelude to this kit . Put foam Board Mosquito in the search bar and look for my avatar . Along the lines of what Payneib hinted at , I made the wing and forward fuselage separate . It worked but was a little fussy to join at the field . It was a staggered joint which made it rather fussy . It did mean only two leads needed to be connected before flight . The amount of stuff in each wing would make separating the wing over complicated . Ive operated several where the wings are joined by tubes and I hate doing all the hooking up at the field . Yes , I know we can do all the clever multi pin connector stuff , but most wont . Obviously this kit will not be made from foam board . This version will separate cleanly where you can see the band around the fuselage . That means that just elevator and rudder servos will be the only disconnect . The Flaps , gear , ailerons , throttles and sound system will all remain permanently connected , eliminating potential failure . (lets leave that to the pilots ..) 😬
