Summer 2023 is here, who has been flying then?

Great morning at the field, blue skies, sunny, warm, fluffy clouds, freshly cut grass, zero wind. Flew my Parkzone Mosquito, Spitfire and a first outing since the repaint of my Dynam Hurricane, which looks much nicer now with that dark red brown colour replaced. Also managed to get some decent photos of my pal Bob's own Dynam Hurricane refurbishment in action - two very different configurations of the same model - mine is equipped with Dynam retracts (if equipped is the right word) and flies with a 4s1p 3300mah lipo -Bob's is lightened with no retracts, no flaps, hand launch with 3s1p 2200mah lipo and flies superbly.

Good to get a morning's flying in, with some hugely enjoyable formation flying against a perfect sky and zero wind for the wee Volantex Spitfires and Bf109es. The weekend's thunderstorms started ten minutes ago and that might be the only chance we get.

Soarers Club bungee competition second leg today and the weather turned out better than forecast. Had a first test bungee launch with my Lidl slope glider, which went up like a rocket and had an "interesting descent", enough to confirm that I wouldn't be using it for the competition, Reverting to my wee red glider, which had done okay in the first leg a few months back, my participation was timed at 4 seconds! The glider vert vertical from the bungee, looped entirely on it's own and came straight down vertically, missing Tom the timekeeper who was stood next to me, by a few inches. That rendered the model unflyable, which was a pity, because several others - including Tosh McCaber of this very parish - had extended flights of 6-10 minutes in the nicely thermally conditions.

I did get some general electric sports flying in later and accomplished the main mission of the day, to pick up my latest Spitfire - a bit of a brute of a 70" span ASP 120 powered CM Pro jobbie, which will require some modification during it's e-conversion to improve it's looks a bit.

Did get some flying in instructing one of my local club members learning to fly but also flew my trusty old Simprop Excel electric glider that is now a 25 year old veteran but still enjoy it. Also maidened a small 1.2m scratchbuilt electric glider 2s 850mAh pack and brushless motor having modified down thrust. Was really pleased with it.

Nice morning. Gentle breeze, warm. Members came, flew, and went. After lunch, just Kev and I left...... having a coffee and a chin wag when we heard the gentle dinking of rain drops on taut film.... "that'll pass" we said. It didn't!

This is a couple of snaps from earlier....

Decent enough morning, with very light winds, no big downpours just a few short drizzly showers. Nice gentle flying, nothing too demanding. Had a narrow escape when the spinner came off my Bf109g in mid-air. immediately making the model tail heavy and with the prop freewheeling, but got away with it and no damage beyond a crack in the plastic spinner.

We got some flying in during this morning albeit a bit windy but after lunch the heavens opened just in time for the Wacky Races! Only 3 pilots were able to attempt the Cut The Crepe round, 2 were successful 1 failed and 2 Hankies were damaged but will live to fight again. the next planned round is the last one of the year at the Pilot's Ball on the 22nd October with the overall winners being declared at the Pilot's Other Ball nearer Christmas.

Some shots of my Hurri taken with a mobile, I'm hoping that flying buddy Kev will be along later with some more!

Caught the sun glare off the worn out shiny bits on the Hurri nicely Kev, thanks.

From those Cutting the Crepe photos it looks like the streamer was attached to the windsock, I can assure everyone that it wasn’t!

Couple of piccies from Sunday's flying, courtesy of my pal Steve. I thought I'd try the SE5a with some streamers, but when getting ready to take off the starboard streamer got caught in the aileron controls, so I took it off, just leaving the one on the port wing. I was a bit surprised that the streamer had such an effect, the drag on the port wing making the model want to turn left and being very reluctant to turn right - I won't be doing that again!

The surprise was because the streamers seem to have very little effect on the wee Volantex models or my SEMFF depron profile fighters. IT would have probably been okay with two on, I guess.
