Nigel Dell
Like Ron says you do need a break Jon, I can’t think of anyone I know that when leaving a job has to still fire fight customers 😳 In the last couple of years I have been unable to do a great deal model wise due to health issues when having an insect bite took me to the edge and on chemo as a treatment, thankfully I am out the other side and on with the Miles project for the i200 which has got me going again and slowly am getting there, have even managed to get out for some long overdue flying which has really helped with my mental health and once again I can see why I love this hobby. Take it easy mate, I hope you get the stress of the move out of the way soon so you can settle once again.
extra slim
Hey Jon, change your name, wear a disguise, leave your former life at Laser behind and focus on your hobby without the baggage which has amassed. We all know aeromodelling is a stress buster and shouldnt be stress generator.. what ever you decide I wish you well
Albert Ace
I made the long haul and went and watched on Sunday. It definitely seems a participant show. Flight lines miles apart, and wasn't allowed near the free flight area. Just by the fence. ContrOl line guys were very entertaining.
RottenRow
You were allowed out to the free flight area… you just had to get a wristband at the gate by the control tower. Fliers had to give a few details but not spectators. The R/C flightline was separated from the rest to avoid any unwanted interaction… a few minutes walk or you could drive, as there was parking at both places. Brian. Chris Freeman 3
You are very lucky to have events like this and the history that goes with it, a real privilege.

It’s pretty much unique I would say. Let’s all hope that the OW weekends can carry on into the future in much the same format as they have done up to now. A big ‘thank you’ should go out to the team who organise the events and have to negotiate with the Shuttleworth Trust each year. I spent a couple of hours looking around the FF area yesterday, there were some amazing models but just as importantly a lot of happy, cheerful people. No criticism intended. When it was the Radio Modeller Scale weekend e hen I was there in the 1980s, it seemed more relaxed. Allright? Phil Green
We had a fantastic weekend down at the F/F & 'assist' end, wx was absolutely perfect, there was endless flying with a huge variety of models from ultra-scale to "My little Pony" and everything between 🙂 Did poorly in the rudder-only spot-landing (19 paces) but I hadnt flown the Poppet for a while (thats my excuse anyway!) 🙂 Had a smile to myself when I overheard one old fella telling another that he'd built an Eric Clapton Sharkface... 🙂 The model boats were top entertainment, again wide variety, hydroplanes, scale, yachts - great idea to invite them along, and the cars too - something different 🙂 Had a quick look at the R/C end but show flying' doesnt do it for me, dont have a 'B' and I dont think my S/C & Reeds models would 'fit' anyway 🙂 I'm concerned by the rumours that this OW could be the last - I dont understand why its free entry - I put what I thought was a reasonable entry fee into the tin but surely $$$ would make the event more attractive to Shuttleworth management? Huge thanks to Modelair, Janine & Willow 🦴 on the campsite team, the traders, and to Shuttleworth, a superb weekend! Cheers Phil Edited July 29 by Phil Green
Dom (Essential RC)
I had a super 2 days supporting Stuart and Andries from HobbyKing who had both come over from Holland for the event. Brilliant zero stress atmosphere all weekend with lots of club type glow, diesel, petrol and electric flying and credit for that down to Gavin and his colleagues tirelessly running the RC flight line ensuring everything was safe and efficient. For me it could only be improved by bringing the RC related vendors like HobbyKing and MicroAces up to that part of the site. Ron Gray
I don’t think OW can be any more relaxed, totally stress free and thoroughly enjoyable and yes I did fly! Only downside for me was that I left my Laser twins glow driver there!

Roy Thompson
Made it there Sunday as a spectator (must sort out a B) had a great day, and certainly exceeded our steps for the day.

kc
I decided not to go last weekend but to go to the usual September event instead - when I looked up the schedule nothing is shown for a September event! Is that really correct only 2 OW model shows this year?
RottenRow
Unfortunately that is correct... it's down to the Trustees that operate Shuttleworth, not ModelAir. The future use of Old Warden to hold model events is up for discussion in the next few months, down to financial pressures and the loss of use of the airfield to full-size traffic on the model days which rumour has it doesn't sit well with some of the operators of the full-size aircraft (not the Shuttleworth Collection's aircraft). Let's hope that the OW events can continue well into the future with as few negative changes as possible. Brian.
kc
That's really sad news Brian. Obviously I should have gone last week - frankly the very hot weather and the possibility of heatstroke ( in England! ) put me off. I got interested in RC aeromodelling by attending the 1984 Old Warden Scale Day and have been every year since. The thought of never again going to a model event at Old Warden is depressing. If it's anything to do with finances then surely charging for aeromodellers would have helped! Getting in free seems like a ploy to get rid of modellers as'freeloaders'..........what's the reason otherwise- surely Shuttleworth need all the money they can get? It would be interesting to know if anyone thought the attendance was up because it was free or just same as normal. And I wonder if most aeromodellers also paid to see the aircraft in the hangers or didn't bother.
RottenRow
As far as I know, nothing is decided yet and a lot of what one hears is just rumours. The attendance was good both days, I don’t know how many modellers would have paid to view the museum exhibits in the hangars, I suspect most would have stayed outside in the glorious weather. I’m sure the restaurant did well… as did the ice cream man (who was not part of Shuttleworth of course). As far as the recently introduced free entry goes, I heard a couple of possible explanations of the management’s reasoning behind this but as they were not from the ‘horse’s mouth’ I won’t repeat them here. They could have just been peoples guesses. Hopefully all will come good. Brian.

I didn't go this year, but I've taken my kids a couple of times, and your comments about full size aviators not liking the lose of the facilities rings true to something that cropped up last year - there was some delay with the FF end of the field being cleared on the Saturday evening (IIRC, 1700 cut off for model flying) and complaints were made by a pair of pilots who were delayed landing on "their" runway. The first full size landing was VERY soon after it being declared closed to models, and whilst it's not my trainset, so not my shout I don't think I saw any kind of FOD plod before the handover.
