Martin Harris - Moderator
Might they be straws made from stainless steel?
Gary Manuel
If they are these drinking straws, or these they sound like the sort of thing that no serious model builder should be without. I suspect that 0.6mm is the wall thickness. It would be nice to know what the overall diameter is. leccyflyer
Might they have been withdrawn from sale following the death of a woman who tripped and fell and was killed when the stainless steel straw penetrated her eye socket and entered her brain? That was in the news only a couple of weeks ago.

ken anderson.
hello Denis,on the video it mentions that the kits are an absolute steal for the price(they are) i was in Aldi one day last week they had 2-3 dozen of the kits,a couple of days later...none...either keen modellers or someone wanting to sell them on at a profit. ken Anderson...ne...1..profit dept. Denis Watkins
Yes, profit Ken, they are half price. Has to be obsolute stock, as it would be unfair to sell new products, as in the current model shops, at half price. Major manufacturers allow big discounts to move old stock, but would stop supplying you if you sold new stock below price. As wide apart manufacturers such as Hornby and Hotpoint. No no Lads. Not price fixing. You, or I can go to the main supplier, Hotpoint, Hornby, Seagull even And ask to buy the whole of an item that will no longer be made further or supplied further, Obsolete. We can then sell that at our price.
PatMc
It doesn't matter whether it's obsolete or new stock, if the supplier tells you that you must sell only at a or above minimum price set by them that is price fixing. Stuphedd
For small tubing I tend to buy those little mirrors , back scratchers , magnets that are on the end of telescopic tube stacks , from the Pound Shops ! Best place for small tubing since cars stopped having them on the front wings !!
Martin Harris - Moderator
Must have been a lot of modellers looking for tubing back then judging by the number of wire coat hangers adorning the broken off stubs on so many cars.
Trevor
Surely most of us are old enough to have a few 35MHz transmitter aerials laying about?! It is very thin walled tubing though and I admit I usually visit the K&S rack at model shows.
leccyflyer
I've passed on all my 35mhz transmitters to those clubmates who still use 35mhz, some years ago - don't have any broken aerials either, but I do have some home-brewed softbore cutters in various sizes made from that lovely K & B brass tube by a long missed modelling pal. I think of him every time I use them.
kc
Old transistor radios had telescopic aerials so a search in the attic might find suitable tubing for hole cutting. Sharpen the INSIDE of the tubing not the outside
Rich Griff
Ah, I was looking at some stainless steel " straws" in Lidl the other week wondering what I could use them for, didn't join the dots at the time...no problem, next time I am in there.....hope there are some left.
