RICHARD WILLS
Graham . I'm not planning on doing a Heinkel kit as there would not be enough sales to justify the work . However I do like the He 111 and I know a few others do . Ideally my 60" single battery Heinkel could be upsized to make a lighter wing loading enabling it to fly even slower (which always looks more majestic ) . Consequently ,as Martin may have a set of useful moulds , there may , at some time, be a half kit . Maybe with the foam veneer wings, plastic glassware and the rest built from balsa over the plan . It all depends on the quality of the moulds . Making a another nose blister is no joke .

Here are the moulds Richard, they look pretty good to me, if you can use them to offer a part kit based of the plan which i will bring along as well then please do as long as i am first in the Queue 😁. Span is 74"........... Edited September 19, 2024 by martin collins 1
martin collins 1
Here is a taster of the plans i have for the HE111.
RICHARD WILLS
Looks like the Roy Scott one . I will have a look at the moulds , but the framing is time consuming as you can see from the plan even if the current finish is good enough for the glass. I also am committed to doing another run of 110s plus turn the Mossie into a proper kit . Graham , you will no doubt be thinking of fourstrokes , but consider this , the Heinkel is a big aircraft with tiny nacelles , so hiding fourstrokes in there is not really practical unless you go much bigger scale . I'm not ruling it out , just putting perspective on it . I cant afford to put too much time into it as it will be a loss for me .
gillyg1
Yes your right Richard, i was thinking four strokes . And thought it might be the Chas Maunde one at 74". If you know anyone who could do the glazing side of things i'd be happy with that. As obviously thats abit of a stumbling block for me. Then theres the retract side to overcome. Many thanks though 😉 Would be a long trek for me to Buckminster, and we had already made plans for that weekend, before you said you were going, orherwise would have been nice to catch up / meet you. Cheers Graham.
martin collins 1
The plan is the Chas Maunde one, i was going to use line tape for the cockpit glazing framework, a few hours in front of the TV once the model was built should do it? 1
RICHARD WILLS
Paul Johnson and I have been working on a much simpler retract system for undercarriages that work for and aft . If the wind ever stops blowing here I will be able to be more certain about the practicalities with a few more test flights . At the very least , I could get foam veneer wings made and a set of plastics off those moulds . But lets wait till the end of the month when Martin and I can meet up . I'm sure I have that plan as well Martin . The main issue with the Heinkel is balance . If you look at it in plan view , the nacelles are tiny and short and the nose is also short compared to the massive horizontal stabilizer which has to be built of fairy dust to avoid a couple of house bricks under the front gunner . Having said that , they fly very nicely and have a real elegance in the air .
RICHARD WILLS
BTW , I did order some fairy dust from Oberon last year . Not received a thing so far . He's a difficult chap to pin down . 😬
martin collins 1
How do you fit the battery in you Einkel Richard, i was thinking of making the front glazing removable by holding it on with magnets so the battery could be inserted through there and sit as far forward as possible, i would sacrifice the scale pilots for having a more favorable balance of the model, you wouldn`t see them once airborne anyway. RICHARD WILLS
Yes , thats exactly what I did . The whole glass nose comes off leaving a long battery box jutting out under the front gunners stretcher . Still needs a bit of lead in there as well . The other neat thing is having a push button in the open upper gunners position to turn the sound system on and off . The retracts are simple double wire legs through a T bar or square Dural and then a standard 54g servoless retract unit . It lands nicely on large wheels ,so had no problem with the U/C. I think theres only about five of us who actually like Heinkels , so we need to keep it reined in , but its a worthy subject and one that pretty much guaranteed to fly nicely . Youve seen some pictures of it before , but here are some from when it was test flown through to current state . 9

Learner
Nice. The only picture I've got hanging in the modelling shed is this one taken out of a skip many years ago. I havent built anything since covid and never built a warbird, perhaps it could be a winter project.

RICHARD WILLS
That one is still a prototype . The fuselage join will be much nicer on the kit version but otherwise it has proved its rather nice flying characteristics and is fully equipped with flaps and double leg retracts . 65" Span . The kit version may arrive in January /February . I don't want to rush it as I feel it has potentially a long production run .
