Now, it's back a little bit worse for wear having spent a long holiday in the woods. I'm going to fix her up and she'll fly again. Geoff S Posted January 7 Share Posted January 7 However, I think you may need to discard the battery 🙂  Lucky it was found, unlike my second, almost new Riot which I flew into a solitary cloud one morning on an otherwise clear day. The repair doesn't look too difficult - good luck, we all need a bit from time to time. Tim Hooper Posted January 7 Share Posted January 7 My new Antares is waiting for some decent weather to make its debut. It's a replacement for the brown tissue attic-find thar I'd been flying for quite a while until the ancient balsa cement gave way in flight.  Anyway, here's the new one, all resplendent white, grey and pink film. Span is 54" and weighs near 5lb, so it'll need to hustle to stay in the air.  There's a 700 watt, 4S power train, turning a 10x6 prop - all pinched from original Antares, so that should be ample for some big aeros.  An added detail is the milled ali motor/noseleg mount.  Fingers crossed....... 16 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

leccyflyer Posted January 19 Share Posted January 19 "Replacements, sir"?  Following the Cat B/C crash of my Parkzone Spitfire IX on Sunday - don't worry, she's repairable and will be back in service soon. I ordered up a replacement Flightline Spitfire IXc to fill in - the RCM&E review was a glowing endorsement at the time and I already have the larger one, but this should be ideal for our smaller club strip.   Ordered Sunday afternoon, arrived Wednesday morning, put together by Thursday afternoon and programmed into the transmitter this morning. leccyflyer Posted January 19 Share Posted January 19 Flightline 1200mm span Spitfire IXc, comes ready finished as Pierre Clostermann's MJ586 and the surface finish is certainly worthy of more than just four strokes. From comparison of some of my other Spitfires, Corsairs and Thunderbolts, the extra 100mm might not sound like much, but it certainly makes a difference in the volume of the model and especially when it comes to ground handling on grass, so I'm looking forward to comparing the FL version against the PZ 1100mm Spitfire IX that it's temporarily replacing. leccyflyer Posted January 19 Share Posted January 19 Superb that Jake - 😎 - flipping on the ground is an occupational hazard with Spitfires. I remember one year at Woodvale there must have been a dozen 1/5th and 1/4 scale Spitfires in the grand battle at the end - every single one ended up on it's nose at the end of the flight. Love it. You're maybe a tad nose heavy with that 4s1p 5000mah battery, which won't help with that, but she certainly looks the part in the air and the taxii-ing was excellent. 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Tosh McCaber Posted January 20 Share Posted January 20 (edited) BTW, Leccy, your mention of Pierre Clostermann struck a chord. Whilst bedded with a really severe cold at the beginning of the year, I picked a dog-eared paperback Penguin copy of his memoirs "Flames in The Sky". Great account of events in WW11. First published in 1951, 175 pages long, (my edition 1957!), it's been lying on my bookshelves for many years. I just wish that I'd read it earlier. A really fascinating account of various events, aircraft, and pilots- of several nationalities, friend and foe- some I hadn't heard of. Incredible fears of bravery, which we tend to forget today.  Still on sale on Amazon, kindle etc, for those who may be interested.                    Edited January 20 by Tosh McCaber 2 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
