Paul Reid
I have recently inherited loads of rc planes and gliders (30+), boxed plane kits and plans (100+), controllers (12), boxed engines (100+), including a brand new ASP FS400AR. There are some jetex free flight planes and hand line planes too. Together with endless accessories. Please can somebody advise me the best way to go about selling these?? I live 10 miles East of Nottingham.

kc
List up a few of the main items and put them on the forum. Engines can be worth a lot if old or multi cylinder. Kits can be worth alot more than when they were bought - look for any Flair brand kits which are sought after. There is a firm that advertises to buy collections of RC models but I reckon you will get a lot more selling direct to buyers. Don Fry
Sounds like gold dust. I might start by visiting the local club, chat with chairman, secretary, and hence get an advisor. Suggest, advisor gets a cut of the proceeds, I would want 20% some of that stuff is rare, of value. But, on the other hand, it’s going to cost you time to shift. Or buyers in of stuff, A “a plane old bargain” springs to mind. But they shift kits, engines, and major bits. The accessories are not of interest. Martin Harris - Moderator
Welcome Paul. Good advice from the posts above. There are specialist auctions for aircraft engines from time to time (Gildings) and the BMFA but you may find Ebay gives a good return - especially if you're located in a populous area for local pick up of larger fragile items - but take care not to fall prey to unscrupulous chancers. Some photos of what you have may help to give some idea of values.

You may be a little late for the next auction as the catalogue is almost finished, however if you drop an email to [email protected] he may be able to squeeze stuff in but you will almost certainly need to get things to him tomorrow to get them catalogued. Paul Reid
Unfortunately there is no way I’ll get it sorted for tomorrow. There are way too many items for me to list this evening. It’s definitely a ‘work in progress’ job! It’s a little daunting but I’ll get there. Thanks for all of your help and advice so far. Rich Griff
Start with the untouched boxed kits, boxed engines and /or anything boxed. Then work your way thro stuff... Boxed Cox plastic control line stuff is worth a lot these days, much more than I could pay. Show them on here...sounds as if you have an Aladdin's cave to sell.....
Geoff S
Of course, there's always the option to get involved in aeromodelling yourself and actually use some of your stock. 10 miles east of Nottingham would put you near Bingham for a guess (as a child I spent a lot of time in Radcliffe-on-Trent). I'm sure there are clubs in the area who may be able to help you sell or even fly your legacy.
Arthur Harris
I once had to dispose of a largish collection (about 200) of Beswick porcelain pieces- huntsmen, wild animals etc. Too much hassle to sell individually through eBay (I tried it, apart from packing it safely and taking it to be posted, rogue buyers claimed damaged/non-delivery etc) and the firms which offered to "take stuff off your hands" offered low prices (fair enough, they have to make a living). I took a photo of the whole collection and put it on eBay and said it was job lot, no offers for the prize pieces. I got a good price, less than it was worth, but the buyer travelled a couple of hundred miles to collect it, and he reckoned he had got a bargain too. I think (but I'm not sure) that auctions generally take 50% of the proceeds of sales. It would be nice if you could post a photo and a list on this forum and see if there are some sought after items which would definitely be going to a good home before you choose another way of selling them. David Davis
If you were to put up a list of what you've got with pictures, I'm sure you'd get fair offers from many of the people who post on this forum. In some cases his suggested offers sound more than generous, e.g. old 35MHz gear. From talking to someone who was involved in buying up job losts in the recent past, there are people who buy up the smaller items as job lots and then split them up, but it is a lot of hard work for not much reward. When you see the pittance that even quite nice models, engines and radios go for at club auctions it shows what a parsimonous bunch we all are. Added to that a lot of modellers are cautious by nature and with the possibilities for hidden faults with the hardware, if they haven't thoroughly tested something, they err towards no rather than yes. Nigel R
Split and list it yourself, this will take a lot of time, and you would benefit from knowing the game to get best results, or what to do and what to not bother with. Sell the lot to a plane olde bargain, you will get a reasonable return for little effort. Middle ground, post a photo or two here, the high value stuff will be identified toot sweet. martin collins 1
There are a number of us on here who could be interested in a number of the items, why not post pictures of say the kits and ask for offers with a 7 day cut off, highest bidder wins it, no fees and chances are you will get a better price than one of the bulk traders will offer. Rod Parsons 1
Hello I’ve probably got more kits than I’ll ever need, ( or have time to build) but still have a few that I’d like to build. If you have any of the Proctor Antics, then I’d be interested. id suggest you list the biggest items then consider best offers.

Outrunner
Wow! More kits than you used to see in a well stock model shop. They will be worth a lot of money, especially as they look untouched.
Rich Griff
Wow is an understatement !!!!! And this is the first cupboard, of how many I wonder ? I have seen 3 models of great interest to me but would imagine I would be outbid, rich by name but cash poor... Sir, could I pm you stating models of interest, no money sums mentioned yet preferably. As stated I would most probably be outbid. May I ask, any Cox stuff like td09rc, plastic stuka control line ( with 100's ), pt19 worth many £'s, any Cox control line and engines. Another item I have been trying to get for some years now is an unstarted precedent hi boy mark 1, 3 or 4 channel kit complete. Some stuff will be very much wanted and desired, so people willing to pay... Humble apologies if I appear cheeky or insensitive, I am not an ebayer or shop.
