He also uses these (and I am not kidding either). Last time he broke a wing he fixed it with a wing bandage. Literally, halfway down the wing. He doesn't understand why we won't let him fly off the buddy lead on his own !!!
kc
I am glad that Jon has bought the Spitfire and will no doubt ensure the spar etc is done properly, However I wonder why the model was used only for display - surely any model shop would fit the spar. Perhaps it was on display somewhere else using other models too - if so what happened to them?
David Davis 2
Maidstone, Kent? A Battle of Britain themed restaurant perhaps?
Jon H
Today was a busy day. 6.5 hours, 283 miles (inc a full circumnavigation of the M25), and a few quid later i now have two new models.... Fitting it all in the car was a challenge as TF decided to use a big big enough for me to actually sleep in First thing i looked for when getting home was the elusive wing joiner...its not exactly hard to miss I then looked at the awful wing join.. Stress testing resulted in immediate failure A jimmy with a multi tool later.... I then started fantasising I then found something unexpected. I know full size spitfires had armour plate but i did not expect to find two massive chunks of 3/8 inch steel plate bolted to the engine box. This is a factory fit and comes with the kit! Its probably needed to balance the overkill tailwheel bracket Anyway its all back in its massive box now and waiting for me to decide what to do with it. As for the other model....
cymaz
Nice work on the Spitfire wing. Looks a clean separation/ break.
Chris Walby
IMO The lump of steel is there because everyone wants to put a petrol 2 stroke up front...when will they learn.... Eurobat has a FT200 plus 1/2 lbs of lead Dual Ace two 70's no lead and the RX batteries behind the canopy SG Mossie needed more weight up the nose Tigercat RX batteries in the nose, no lead Jon, Nice engine you have there 😉, another install thread please

Andy Stephenson
What's wrong with this picture...
Martin Harris - Moderator
If the picture hasn’t been printed in reverse, the crankcase may have been rotated, which iirc is possible on these HBs to give opposite engine rotation? (I’ve never tried it so my memory of this is very vague and I could well be wrong on the rotation point but the crankcase is rotatable.) Paul De Tourtoulon
I have turned the front inlet casting 90° on OS and Super tigres to make the engine turn the other way around, easier for delta's and use std props.
Andy Stephenson
I had an HB61 which could have reversed rotation but as Paul says the crankcase should be rotated 90° axially to the crankshaft not 180 to the cylinder. Someone has had it apart and not reassembled it correctly, would you buy an engine off this person? The picture has not been printed mirror fashion as the carb is still the right way round. Tom Flynn 1
Just seen this on eBay. There doesn’t look much of a low boy kit among this lot. A nice box and transfer, but nothing else.

David Ovenden
Well, eBay will have automatically added 20% on to the seller's price to cover "VAT" as the item is coming from Italy!

Don Fry
With the Italian postal service involved, it probably does not materialise, so no duty problems.

RottenRow
It’s not just eBay where these things turn up…. somebody paid £500 plus commission for this at this weekend’s Mathewson’s classic car auction… https://www.mathewsons.co.uk/auction/lot/lot-307---large-model-spitfire-aeroplane/?lot=10774&so=0&st=&sto=0&au=36&ef=&et=&ic=False&sd=1&pp=96&pn=4&g=1 Brian.
Martin Harris - Moderator
Might have realised £40 at a club auction - amazing what a description of a “large” Spitfire can raise from uninformed auction fever! I might have to start digging out some of the “enormous historic collectible” models lurking in my attic… 1
