Insanity seems to be setting in

I do wonder if all the doom sayers are adding codiciles to their wills leaving 500 bog rolls to various members of their family.

I am told that the local fish van has twice had its entire stock of cod and haddock bought by one person. With any luck they will choke on a fish bone!!

I have noticed that it is in the grimmest of times that the humour comes out. War time produces a lot of humour.

Also seen it during crash recovery with some grim and macarbe humour...it is a defense mechanism.

At my local indoor bowls club we have a raffle each week - last night one of the prizes was a twin pack bog roll - and we've now shut down TFN

I should have entered that raffle. We ran out the other day because we were unable to buy any as our local supermarkets had sold out. I had to go into mcdonalds for a mcdump.....

Medical advice is not to use IBUPROFEN as this is an anti-inflammatory

The action of inflammation helps reject viruses

Paracetamol is recommended, honest

Yep, I read that myself, allergic to it anyway.

I think there are two ways of looking at this enforced isolation. My wife myself and the cat will be spending a lot of time together in the next few months. I could be really depressed at the prospect of not being to go to the pub meeting friends etc. On the other hand I could look on it as an opportunity to get on with all the odd jobs house and garden wise. I also have a new plan, a pile of balsa and ply which I want to get started on. I also have a well stocked beer and gin fridge in my garage. So all in all I am trying to look on the bright side.

I was in a local supermarket earlier today as I needed some milk, cheese and a packet of ginger nuts. face 1

Whilst in the queue at the checkout, there was a woman behind me who was of truly epic proportions. She had a bottom which looked like she had two space hoppers stuffed down her trousers. surprise It was a scary sight.

She began to unload her goodies.... She shamelessly placed 7 packets of butter, ten cartons of eggs and an untold number of packets of ham onto the belt. She had loads of other stuff in bulk in her trolley but I couldn't look any more for fear of laughing out loud. laugh

There has never been a world shortage of idiots, but now the idiots are becoming selfish. thinking

It's fascinating stuff, people in their hundreds of thousands crowding together buying things, and handling things, seen many of our older folks out buying what they need, most lugging a small bag or trolley. I like old people, we went to school together.

I'm baffled.

Loads of wit/humour online, would be in bother if I posted most of it though. wink

I have to go to waitrose tomorrow. It will be interesting to see if they are in the same situation

I will carry my camera and see what I can get in the way of pictures.

What I am dreading is this. my next door neighbour is 100 years old and I get a list of shopping to do in Waitrose. Her son does Asda but I have to do Waitrose.

I will not go into it but it is bad enough on normal days. If she asks for bog rolls she will not live long enough to use half a roll.

I think I will stock up on whisky in large quantities.

In all fairness, and these are not a cynic's words, as I'm a glass nearly full type. If, however, you ever think that there is a lowest common denominator of human behaviour, you will be disappointed.

The cream will rise to the top Don, the perception of who the cream are may change though.

Funny - I have heard another similar expression used in political circles. The biggest ---- shall we say lumps always float to the top.

Is it true that they've shut the pubs but kept the schools open?

Here in France we've all been confined to barracks except for going to work, shopping for food, medical appointments or caring for vulnerable people or children. We are also allowed to go for brief constitional walks. We're no longer able to go flying which is a shame because the next few days are forecast to be excellent flying weather. Should be able to get on with building the Big Guff however!

I undertook my weekly shop on Monday. I guessed that Lidl was full, as all the car parking spaces were filled. I did find a space, eventually.

There were ques on three of the tills that went to the very back of the store.

Many of the people with bulging trolleys were in there 20-mid 30s as a guess, who i do not normally see as a group. Older people, pensioners, often just had baskets or the shallow trollies. I did think is it because they are less inclined to panic, or just do not have the spare cash to buy more?

Ironically, after all the talk of toilet rolls, there were two pallets, parked next to the shelving where they are normally sold from, there were still many in the area. I wanted some pasts, Penn preferably, all the pastas were gone, nothing. Strangely there was no Mango chutney, but curry sauces in abundance. I was surprised that depleted stock seemed to be random, there was no plain flour, yet loads of self raising.

Not being able to buy all that I want from Lidl (I never can, the range is a little limited, not by much) I went to ASDA. The shelf issue was similar, although no apparent ques. There was no Benecol, or alternative (for my wife), in the case of ASDA, all the Indian sauces were sold out, I wanted Biryani for my wife, although there was chutney, We have no Whisky or Spiced Rum in the house, which we both have a small tumbler of each morning and night, for medicinal reasons. There was very little Whisky left, the same was true for rums, nothing there except the one bottle of Spiced Rum. I did see one woman put in her trolley the 4 remaining bottles of Captain Morgan, I had previously been pushed out of the way by a desperate shopper to get at the Whiskies.

My wife had asked me to make sure i had some Diesel in my tank, which I normally buy possibly once a month, not today, it seemed as the ques were stretching around the exit road. It did make me wonder where do all the people expect to travel to , and that includes my wife?

Arriving at home, I saw some changes in governmental recommendations, which are far more restrictive on old peoples lives, so as my own. The extent of them is only beginning to dawn on me, I did get my newspaper today, although much later, to ensure as far as possible that the shop would be empty. The weekly shop, appears to be out, from now on, I have enough for probably up to a month, of limited choice, of many things, although not milk.

Now my thoughts are, how, or when, will the restrictions be eased, without a spike in illnesses?

The economy will be damaged, meaning businesses, and the governments finances (which is really our finances).

I am so glad that we went to the local pub last week for a drink and a meal, looking out over the sea, whilst we could. I am also pleased that daughter No1 and family came for Saturday Dinner, as it could be a long time before we can do the same, that is ever for my wife and myself. So much has changed, in such a short time.

My last thanks to God, is thank goodness it was some one who is competent, who won our last General Election, a born manager. Rather than one of the alternatives, who could not organise a drinking session in a brewery

Has this "born manager" closed the pubs but left the schools open in order to limit the spread of the virus or am I just misinformed?

Reluctant to answer David, people have been advised to not congregate in pubs, because of contagion, schools are being kept open, make of that what you will.

Pubs are still open, as are restaurants, they are looking for staff as people ring in saying they'll not be in, Sons a manager at a large chain supplying hospitality.

Bemused.

I don't get the logic of keeping the schools open either David. My guess is that they have judged that the disruption of closing them and having parents off work or grandparent looking after the kids outweighs the risk of cross infection via school.

There will be lots of difficult decisions to be made by everyone over the coming days / weeks / months (?).
