cymaz
Anyone have the mobile alarm. Mrs C and I were together with phones in Morrisons in deepest Cornwall and heard nothing. In fact I didn’t hear anyone else’s phone go off in the shop. Edited April 23, 2023 by cymaz
Ron Gray
8 mobiles in my cottage at the time, 1 minute to 3 my wife's alarm went off then at various times in the next 15 mins 5 others went off including my daughter's 2x. So the conclusion we came to was that both me and my daughter in law will be cannon fodder whilst the others will be afforded the luxury of the bunker. Don Fry
Failure to lead a pure life Ron. Big brother has noticed. Best not to discuss this with daughter in law.
Ace
Not sure but believe those using the 2G or 3G network were never meant to receive it. And yep silence for me also as I am using 3G.
Jake Bullit
Deactivated mine, but lots of others went off in the café I was in.

Ron Gray
We do not get a 3, 4 or 5G signal in my cottage so quite how the alarm got through to 6 of us I don't know. My wife's 'phone is identical to mine and is setup the same way (I did it!) so it is all rather puzzling.
HENRY GELSTHORPE
When Putin's Avangard cans of condensed sunshine wizz here at 20 times the speed of sound, I can't see that the alarm is going to be of little use.
Martin Harris - Moderator
Mine went off a couple of seconds before my wife’s. We’re with different providers. As I understand it, the Doomsday scenario isn’t the main intended use but it could be targeted at localised events such as flooding, chemical escapes, dangerous fugitives etc. Ron - could your phone be using WiFi to augment it’s mobile connection? Ron Gray
Yes our mobiles are set to Wi-Fi calling but the alarm didn’t / doesn’t use Wi-Fi.

leccyflyer
Nothing here. Came in from the workshop when I heard on the radio that the alert had just been sent, but my phone was there and my wife confirmed that there had been no alarm sounded. If that was the case why wasn't this implemented 2 or 3 years ago, funny now that this is being promoted against the backdrop of the rising international tensions, as regards dangerous fugitives has Borris ,Farage, and the ERG been allowed out again😂
Graham Bowers
No, I'd switched emergency alerts off in settings.

Geoff S
Both my wife and I are on Vodaphone 3G and neither of us got the alarm. I think the idea is a good one. If such a thing had been available in 1953 perhaps fewer would have died in the huge East coast floods that year. After all isn't that what the air raid sirens were for during WW2? GrumpyGnome
My wife and I both received the alert at 14:59. Surprising as the BBC said it would be sent to phones on IOS whatever, and Android 11 and above.... we're both on Android 9.
Frank Skilbeck
Mine and my wifes both went off, mine at 14:59 and hers at 15:01 and we're on the same network. But isn't that the point of a test to check the system, so they can iron out any bugs.

J D 8
For much of my 28years as a Coastguard rescue officer our little station where rescue equipment and truck was kept had a strange black box high on the wall. We were told this was the three minute warning system of impending nuclear attack. Never heard it sound [glad of that] but were never told what we should do with that 3 minutes [ if we had happened to be in the station] There were some interesting suggestions from the team like boil an egg and others that can not be mentioned here. HENRY GELSTHORPE
I remember the cold war warning system from my telephone exchange days, I think it was called WB 1400.It had a I am "alive" tone that intermittantly sounded,it made my blood run cold.Following the end of the cold war they were all removed.

Martin Harris - Moderator
Yes - the WB1400 was fitted in all sorts of public buildings, emergency service locations, schools etc. There was a volume control for muting the monitoring “tick”. I remember it as a 4 minute warning - if it was 3 minutes in Pembrokeshire then perhaps the threat may have been coming from an unexpected direction! Fortunately we never had to test its effectiveness…
