I'm told that you can get a yearly pass to Weston park for £38 which will get you into any event there for the whole year.

Furthermore, there are local camp sites that charge a lot less than on the Weston Park site.

Bang on, and local camp sites will have better facilities for the campers and caravanners i.e. proper toilets and shower washing facilities.

Well, I've never been before, but have had a fabulous day at Weston park today. Some of the worlds best display pilots flying some incredible aircraft over English country parkland. Just amazing. Felt a very small crowd so plenty of space right at the flightline.  Good selection of trade stands to save postage on and of course typical show catering prices. Great day.

I'm just home from Weston Park also & would echo everything DaveB1 said. Good day out and apart from a few very heavy showers, easily sheltered from in a trade tent, the weather co-operated. I've been going ever since it started & prefer the Friday ever since it became an option, it being much quieter than the weekend.

....and I ticked off everything on my shopping list (+maybe just a little bit more).

I bottled making the 360 mile round trip because of the weather forecast.  I had a long wish list ready to take with me and I was ready to press the button on 2 nights accommodation, so I could attend all 3 days. I couldn't find a mate who wanted to go either. Hopefully next year. I shall have to try Popham and Headcorn to get my bits. Not urgent.

Today was a different story. Fairly close, left home about 0750, onsite 0920, family soaked through by about 1030, left site and home around 1200. Gutted. That said rain didn't stop until J18 on M6, so don't regret early dart.

You should have Stayed that was the only major rain shower, great day had and made us laugh when the three full size extras were preforming in bright sunshine around 2.15 pm it suddenly Hailed and then one rumble of Thunder but that was it.

Glad we went and spent over 200 myself and my brother brought a 60inch extra from OMP

Well that's that then 🤔

I don't think I will bother next year. I aborted this year due the weather forecast. I guess it's one of those shows that will pass me by. Sad, in a way. I shall make sure I support Popham and the Southern Model Airshow at Headcorn this year before they all disappear 💥

The Nationals at Barkston and Cosford LMA are the events I miss. Cosford is worth the dozen or so miles extra from Weston and is a much better flying site.  I may go to Elvington this year. It's one I've never been to although I used to attend the Christmas 'bazaar' in the past.

The orgnisers just dropped in the conversation on their Facebook page that Weston Park 2025 will be the last one...

Its the last Weston Park show to be organised and run by the Bishops, not necessarily the last one ever.

We had great fun from Thursday night till Sunday afternoon with all of my other flying buddies there, some great buys in the swap meet again, and stocked up on balsa and hardware.

A few years back now but I remember going to an LMA event at Duxford. Does anyone know why this venue can't be used more? It has parking, catering, easy access, room for trade stands and interests for those non modellers in the family.

Yes, that LMA show at DX was very good and as you say The IWM is a first class attraction as well. My guess as to why The LMA hasn't returned there is probably partly to do with the economics and practicality of running an event that as of necessity, requires the flying field to be closed to full size aircraft for a lengthy period (think of the pleasure  trips from Classic Wings that operate all day for a start, and the warbird experience flights.....£££££s).

On a practical note, seeing as the grass airfield itself is now out of bounds to spectators with all viewing taking place from 'the hard' which makes full size displays much more difficult to see let alone even fairly large models that would 'get lost' so to speak.

IWM Duxford has made some some odd management decisions of late and their focus in many folk's opinions is that of their transforming DX into an 'attraction' above a lot of what has been the main aviation focus in the past. Look at the mad decision to not come to agreement with The Fighter Collection and to therefore scrub arguably the World's finest warbird spectacular 'Flying Legends'.

As such, I very much doubt that an R/C model flying show is very far up their to-do list.

True, although I'm struggling to think of a person/group/organisation who would take it on... One would hope someone will try, and maybe the Bishops will help to hand it over.

Robert, I attended what turned out to be the last LMA show at Duxford. As I recall, a jet crashed into a field on the other side of the M11. The crop was set alight and, because of the wind direction, the motorway was closed for some time due to smoke blowing across it. One can only guess whether this had anything to do with the LMA not returning to Duxford.

Didn't a full size P51 make a forced landing on the other side of the M11 recently, yet air displays continue, I can only wonder why these events carry on?

I might have stayed longer but when you've a seven year old shivering because he's soaked through, a 3 year old in a similar state, a wife doing her best to appease them and and folk smoking/vaping in the main shelter tent we had to call time on it. If weather is looking better next year we will be camping. If on the edge we'll get a family order of wellingtons in!

Have to agree with you on the Smoking and Vaping thing i get steamed up about that in a big way, i dont want to smell or inhale any of that muck, and it should be banned at the gate, or they go in an enclosure Down wind of everybody else.

100% Agree, Ex smoker and vaper here but I was getting very tense having one vaping and one lighting up right in front of me right at the back of the tent.

My other gripe with Weston this year was a lack of any 'schedule' as much as I appreciate it was a bit hit and miss due to the weather some guide on times would've been usefull, we actually thought the fireworks had finished just after the grobbes and headed back to the tent, along with many others only to here the full display a while after!

Moans aside, I appreciate those that done their best in giving us a display putting their own comfort to the back and getting soaked!
