  2. It seems obvious to me. If you have a dairy farm, you produce milk, arable farms produce grain and vegetables, sheep farms meat and wool etc. etc. There’s been a proliferation of wind generators and wind farms - so there’s far more wind being produced.

  3. Wow, is all I can say. Hips not engaging properly Walking right shoulder down. Hips twisted to the right. Lots of other stuff I didn't understand. etc etc etc!. A couple of simple exercises to do three times a day. Plus careful / timed hot and cold treatment. Two hours well spent to say the least. Early days of course, but in a couple of months I should be back up the field!!

  4. My Veron Mini Robot built from plan download. Fuselage built from balsa and depron, wings from balsa. Covered in laminating film and tissue applied with water based varnish thinned 50/50 with water. Converted to taildragger after smashing the noseleg former on its first flight. Flies beautifully on a little outrunner and 1350mAh 3s battery pack and an 8x6 APCe prop.

  5. Always wanted a Mosquito, and managed to find one new in its box(PZ), though a good few years in storage. Not flown it yet, but should be good by all accounts.

  6. I joined a BMFA club just over a year ago, and have become a much better pilot flying more frequently where I can learn from other pilots. I realised in the last week that one big benefit is that I haven’t questioned flying in this weather. A year ago it would have grounded me, but now I get out and fly and manage to bring my planes home intact. I still prefer calmer flying, but I think flying in the UK means sooner or later you’ve got to get your head around coping with the wind. But I’m still hoping next week will be calmer!

  7. Well ..... a new weekend looms. Just had my instructions ..... all set for Sunday. Our club celebrates its 25th year in existence ..... and .... I have a hat to prove it ..... so there. We are hosting a BBQ to celebrate the occasion. There will be locals invited to witness what the club is all about and to see what some of their donated funds etc have been used for. They will even be invited to " take up the sticks " and have a go. So ... flying may be restricted but should still be possible. So ..... tonight ... it will be off to the shed for some battery checking / charging and some checks on the Beaver to see she is all fit for the occassion and dressed up in her best bib and tucker. It seems like ages since I have had a adrenalin rush so fingers crossed this weekend provides the conditions to deliver. I'll post up regardless. See you soon Toto

  8. Exactly! And we had to abandon tidal generators because they were making the Moon wobble on its axis.

  10. Evening all, Barcelona this weekend, so for those who haven't yet made them... Don't forget your predictions! Verstappen has set fastest times in both P1 and P2 today. Perez was 2nd in P1, Alonso in P2. P! saw the Ferraris of Leclerc and Sainz down in 8th and 9th, and Russell and Hamilton's Mercedes 10th and 12th. P2 was only slightly better for Ferrari and Mercedes, 6th and 7th for Leclerc and Sainz, and 8th and 11th for Russell and Hamilton. Ocon and Gasly took 3rd and 5th in P1, and 5th and 10th in P2. P3 is at 11:30 UK-time tomorrow with qualifying at 15:00. Sunday's race is at 14:00. Good luck everyone!

  11. I haven’t got any photos but lots were taken. A truly excellent day, a bit windy / gusty but the sun shone and I thoroughly enjoyed myself (and the company!). Hopefully this can be an annual event.

  15. I have been at it again... For the last 16 months I have had this project in my hangar, working on and off. Now all the time, calculations, recalculations, guesstimates and an endless amount of (quality time) hours has paid off. CG was spot on, throws and setup worked great and it flew well too. Not too much power on 4S, but I got off the ground (ice to be more precise) fairly easy and when it was airborne it was as on rails... Enjoy!

  16. I think the labelling is standard for any kind of paint/glue/solvent sold in the USA. It really is very benign stuff to use. Because the pigment is dense, if you spray it through a reasonably large nozzle on your gun, then there are no clouds of spray vapour that sometimes occur with thinner, solvent based paint. It is a joy to thin with water and wash up with water, but I will confess that I do give the gun one last wash out with celly thinners before putting it away to clear out any last remnants of WBC.

  17. I have to admit i was generally disappointed but i think mostly with myself. In no small part this was due to being almost wiped out tired before the day began and major rush to get up there following a very busy week and last nights festivities. Add to that one model damaged in transit, another with a very unexpected mechanical failure, and not flying at anywhere near my best irrespective of the somewhat challenging conditions. i found myself more than a little frustrated and not quite in the right frame of mind so apologies too all for not being on song. I am looking forward to having next week off for a bit of a recharge and see what on earth happened to my sea fury. it was nice to meet some of the voices on the phone thought and hopefully i didnt miss too many people out. Thanks to all who came and especially those who helped with organisation. I hope you all had an enjoyable day and if we do this again i will try and be a bit more on the ball.

  18. This thread is posted in the Scale and Semi Scale kits section of the forum, so the implication is that the original poster is interested in building from a kit and not from a plan though...

  20. Interesting. There is no grove on this exhaust and the hose has been there for a while. (This exhaust was sealed up with some black Loctite stuff...)

  21. You could put a small round head bolt right through the outlet to give the cable tie something to secure against. Or try cleaning it up with IPA or whatever, and glue on a silicon tube with some sealant?
    1 point
  22. I would be tempted to put a bit of hose on the outlet to try and stop crap ending up on the wing. IIRC the stuff that I use is car radiator hose from ebay.

  24. One thing I’ve noticed is a tendency for people to tighten the lock nut without having fully tightened the screw first. The lock nut stops the screw from loosening further in the end cap but any slight movement between the two silencer halves will cause fretting and obvious leakage - look for black oily residue for confirmation.

  25. I certainly noticed it was breezy in the evening about a week ago, at a time I would have expected it to calm down. Thermic activity causes wind in the day which tends to start mid to late morning and start to die late afternoon. Other wind is due to larger low pressure areas. With regard to your model, a flat bottomed wing is going to be more susceptable to gusts and getting blown backwards. If you are coping ok with your model in light winds, have a look for something with either a semi-symmetrical wing section, or even a fully symmetrical section.

  26. Hmm A book written by an inexperienced doctor, who qualified as a doctor about a year before writing it vs The absolute rafts of information out there from the scientific community, produced by actual epidemiologists, who have been in the game of communicable disease monitoring and control for many, many collective years I know which I'd trust. Never a truer word. A bunch of shysters preying on the fearful. You are DD... but only to that particular strain and any closely related strains (how closely related, I do not know) The annual flu jabs, I believe they target three strains every year, the three are picked out by looking at what the most prevalent (or maybe dangerous) strains in circulation are, around autumn time. So even the flu jab does not guarantee you will not get "a" flu - just much less chance of the "likely" flu

  30. Yep, often windy in the north west. But then again there is ‘smooth wind’ and ‘turbulent wind’.. don’t you think?. I’ve gone thinking it will be windy and it is but a constant and predictable wind which is fine. Then there are times when the forecast doesn’t appear too bad, but it’s bouncing all over and you up your concentration. I too often like to fly lightweight foamies in a breeze, yes they get knocked about a bit but are always fully controllable. I have lost count of the times folk arrive with their weighty high wing loading whatever’s declaring ‘better penetration”!!. Ooo err.. only to be reaching for the bin liners when they get too slow downwind.. I say nowt and keep my thoughts to myself and enjoy that I’m out and having fun.

  31. I know alleging “fake news” is near standard these days whenever any stats are presented by any authority agency, it seems a little strange to suggest the Met Office. They have a network of 150+ stations reporting daily data for decades; why would they make it up? Re: your second point in excesses, if you read the report there are a page or two of content about average wind speeds; they admit there are no huge trends in either direction, but the balance of data suggests a slight calming vs previous decades.

  32. Are we talking warbird paints or warbird colours? For stirring old paint my favourite method is a piece of L shaped music wire. Chuck it into a drill or drill press and stir away.

  33. Not just models, I'm learning to fly full size. Monday was 043 Deg & 22Kts average for the 4 forecasts for our site on the Met forecast. It might have started at 22kts but must have been gusting 30+ when we landed at 11:00. Instructor & I both agreed that a lot would have been airsick as it was so bumpy. AT one point our Warrior dropped 200ft. Luckily because its 7 months since my last lesson my instructor did the landing.

  37. Keith, before I start, I give notice I have a hat in this ring. I designed a two meter aircraft, drew it, cut it, built it, tweaked it. Very nice flyer, very very happy bunny. Worth the considerable workload. Spectrum rx. Flight 15, fail safe, dead, plunged to earth, trimmed to fly in the direction it points. Testing, it worked, but failed every so often. Opened it up, circuit board was just not quite right, slightly messy, and a whisker/strand of a power cable was suspiciously close to a short potential, and I was working the aircraft hard. That Spectrum rx did not pass QC unless by a blind inspector. I did some research, and mine was a fake, different screws fitted, very minor differences to some of the fonts. So I’m down a couple of hundred hours, a new 25 cc petrol engine, rx I paid proper money for, airframe costs, some servos, and an abiding hatred of fake stuff. The fake/dodgey sellers tell us they are tail end production, using spare components, after the famous brand has had its order. Lie like a cheap watch. Rant over. I don’t know why the prices have shot up, perhaps you are right, rip off, or not, chaotic supply chains beating up small order people. Assumptions cut no ice. Similarly, any actual evidence that the same factory, circuit board, components are used in el cheapo, and a Branded item? I use Spectrum stuff. I’m not a 100% fan, and I will move on to multi protocol when I decide to change my Tx. But there has to be a price point where good components, good machines, factory practice, QC, can’t be done.

  39. I don't disagree that there appears to be some climatic changes in terms of the predominat wind directions and the times in the day when we are more and less likey to to see windy (or calm) weather. However, the data from the likes of the Met Office does not support that it's generally getting more windy - if anything it's the opposite: Wind With the notable exception of storm Arwen, the year was less stormy than most other years in recent decades. There have been fewer occurrences of max gust speeds exceeding 40/50/60 Kt for the last two decades compared to the 1980s and 1990s. The UK annual mean wind speed for 2021 was second lowest in a series from 1969. The UK annual mean wind speed from 1969 to 2021 shows a downward trend, consistent with that observed globally. However, this series must be interpreted with some caution. https://rmets.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/JOC.7787

  40. I agree completely on the cheapo extension leads. I got a pack of those but they never even made it into the model for flight. One pull test and they went straight in the bin. However it's not just saving a few quid in the case of the receivers in question, it's a price increase of more than 50% applied virtually overnight.

  42. The problem is, Paul, we tend to find new and innovative ways of making errors. Training is, of course, the key to teaching us not to make the ones we know about. Procedures and check lists help but at the end of the day we rely on our human qualities which mean we are prone to making errors.

  43. One of the guys in our club is a great advocate of the DB Tyo Major, three or four channel. The club was in need of a simple Trainer model and so I recently put this one together. Three channel, with the fus slightly wider than plan to facilitate the battery / esc and servos. SO simple to build and very quick. The wings are foam core with carbon tows laid on the top and lower surface in lieu of spars. Balsa L/e and T/e to be a bit more ding proof and then joined and covered with brown paper / PVA. A couple of layers of 80 gsm glasscloth as dihedral brace and stop the bands from digging in. Then all covered in the cheapest film covering that I could find. The finished wing came in at 300 grammes when a foam veneer wing, also film covered was 550 grammes Most of the wood came out of the scrap box and the fin and tailpane core are foam board with a balsa frame. Motor & ESC came from the Retford swopmeet and was £20 all in. I don't have a full and final cost but less than £50. As a trainer it is superb. Very stable and easy to fly. I'm very impressed with it. I learned with a Super 60 but this one is better. As a means of giving a complete novice some success on their first outing it has proved very good. The only downside is the limited duration on 3 cell 2200 lipos. I may well build another fus with a 20 glow motor just to improve the duration Who needs a stabilised RX?? 😉

  44. At the end of the Carbon tube there is a hole on the underside of the wing, and the 4 mm carbonrod is 10 mm longer than the tube, so I just put on a rubber packing (o ring in Danish) and gave it a drop og cyano glue The CG and weight will come after some more trim flying, the CG was too much forward yesterday due to the 150 gram extra ballast. The wind should be good later today. S
